Recommended for further wood grain effects in the Classic Skin: koohead's updated ratings bars.

I also recommend koohead's modded Continue Button and Start/Leave Game buttons.

As promised, here are screenshots from the end of my latest season and the award voting is beginning.

You can see that the second tab says 'Manual Award Selection.' But when you select tab all you get is a line of text saying that 'Manual Award voting is not enabled.'

Have you looked around in MLB > League Settings > Options?

I know there is a setting that will enable manual Hall of Fame voting. Maybe it will fix things... Good luck...

Yeah, it looks like this. I don't really care about the manual voting. I just found it odd that it says it's not enabled, but there seems to be no way to control whether it's enabled.

You must be in Challenge Mode..... Because, otherwise, there is no way to DISABLE it that I know of...

I am in Challenge Mode, though I'm not quite sure what that is. It's something that I think I turned on when I created this league when OOTP 21 first came out. At least that explains why it's disabled.

D'oh! Good job, Questdog. I wouldn't have thought of that.

Challenge Mode is a mode that gives you very limited control over the settings that you are able to change. It is designed to be much more of a "challenge" since you are forced to play by the settings Challenge Mode sets.

If you weren't playing in Challenge Mode, you could go into the player editor and make your weak, poorly hitting Shortstop into a monster with maximum power, if you wanted to. Or, you could force the AI to accept your trade offer even if they're getting hosed in the deal. It isn't limited to things like that, that some people would consider "cheating" or unsportsmanlike. You could re-arrange the two MLB leagues by putting the Mets in the AL East and moving the Yankees to the NL East. Or, you could disable the possibility of games being rained out...all sorts of little things...and all sorts of big things.

Frankly, I believe that is one of the great things about OOTP. We have the ability to set up our baseball worlds almost exactly the way we want. I put the word cheating in quotes because I do believe every ootp player should setup his leagues and play his roles anyway he sees fit. It's your installation of OOTP you should do whatever you want to enjoy this complex baseball simulator.

Challenge Mode says, "Nope. You're going to play by OUR rules..."

EDIT: I just noticed you've been a forum member since 2008. You probably already know all about the customizations you can do outside of Challenge Mode. Maybe my post will be helpful to some n00bie one day. LOL!

Funny how one gets ingrained (no pun intended) in their mode of play to the extent that something like whether Challenge Mode is on or not does not even occur in one's thinking about the game. Long ago, I dismissed Challenge Mode as a gimmick (and, as we see here, an unwanted limitation on certain aspects of gameplay) so I don't even think about it when questions like this come up.

Speaking of challenge mode, if anyone would want to test these two theories to disable it then I would be very grateful. I have not been able to use test them in the past few days due to family reasons, but anyone that has spare time would be welcomed to test them out. I will test them as soon as I can. Thanks!

EDIT: The first method is tested and proven not to work.

zappa, it's going on four years now and we have had three additional iterations of OOTPB, but I have reason to thank you once again for your detective work above.

For, once again, in my final setup of the classic skin in OOTPB 24, I once again came across those ugly smudges in the game start screen. Once again, I was fruitlessly searching through the skin's style_sets folder.

"Wait a minute," I said to myself. "Didn't I address and resolve this issue before? And wasn't it a very simple solution? Yes, yes, there was a thread..."

But how to find it in this morass of decades of game version threads?

"Hmm, if it was an easy fix, it probably had something to do with the images folder instead. Say, this file looks promising..."

I searched for "home_player_color_overlay" and boom, there was my own thread from 2020! And there was the cookie that I sent you for steering me in the right direction.

Well, zappa, I hope you have enjoyed many (but not too many) cookies and milk over the years. Thanks again.

Since you are unlikely to notice this post in this ancient thread and forum, I will send you a PM drawing your attention to it.
