So, after long and difficult thread about bringing back manual here is the Alpha version of first ever WIKI for OOTP game, including Perfect Team.
Structure is not perfect, well, its a copy of manual structure so yeah, needs improvements. It is what it is, at least some starting point. Note new shorter site name http://ootpwiki.notion.site OOTP WIKI - ALPHA Current version is in ALPHA status, preview which needs a lot more content to be captured and published. Post your questions and ideas in this thread so I know where to focus next, any feedback is welcomed. Last edited by biggerme; 07-18-2024 at 05:10 PM. Reason: link change |

The amount of effort that some of you put into this that doesn't pertain to your own actual saves/sims is really commendable. You're better humans than I am.

I like the efffort.
A couple suggestions (just thinking out loud). Maybe a section for FAQ??? This gets asked frequently and maybe should be in manual. How to add a stadium that comes with the game instead of the generic stadium. Also Maybe mention the mod section in the forum? Just a thought.

Hats off to you, biggerme!
It would be great to have some day somewhere an explanation on what those game, league, finance, etc. options really are and how they work in all scenarios - historical, fictional and whatever else they could be. |

If you end up putting significant time into this I'd be telling the devs I want the next several versions of OOTP at no cost or something.
It's awesome of you to do, but frankly it's complete BS that it's up to the community to do this. |

Yes, you should be compensated for this in some way. Never do somebody else's work for free.

And I get also something, I will learn about how to do a Wiki, hopefully reasonably good one and I can take that back to my professional life which I can monetize. Learning is essential and in this case OOTP has provided me outlet to do that, I don't want to let these kind of opportunities to slide away. Of course I would not mind some free Historic Rainbow Packs ![]() And as long as I have some free time available I will use it as well as I can. |

Just remember to make sure you put a disclaimer that it is not an official OOTPD wiki and things could be wrong as not all of us know the actual truth of how this game works. Sure there are some things we can figure out, but there are a ton of things that are just hidden under the hood that we don't have access to.

Cut low WE/Int and other bad trait players Unless they're some defensive wiz, I have a strict rule against <45 AvK Hitters- Gap>Con>Avoid K>Eye>Power -Adding onto the above, for a lower end hitting prospect, contact > eye > power For batter: contact > eye > power. Pretty standard looking for high potential guys that I can slowly develop over the years. Pitchers Movement>Stuff>Cont FIP-, ERA+, WPA, K/BB to see how pitchers truly doing RPs Stuff LHP preferred SPs Stamina and Control For dev sliders Sacrifice fielding and running for hitting abilities, unless the prospect has good both (and even then, lower the sliders as much as possible before regression). I change them about twice a year, depending on how their potential/rating changes. HS P-dev stuff last. Movement and Control first Promoting players Wait until pivotal skills hit 45-50 for the level, you’re looking to promote of player may regress Promoting/demoting players too frequently can be severely detrimental, so I only promote prospects one level max in the middle of a season and keep them at a level for at least 50-60 games. Stats and ratings. If a prospect has good enough ratings to advance, but his stats are meh, I leave him where he is and check again after a few months. If a prospect is crushing a level, but his ratings don't fit, then I just leave him to be and keep an eye on him. Review Coach preferences, and if matches prospect skills, keep them at that level with that Hit/Pitch Coach longer Stats are somewhat indicative of success; no matter how high a prospect is rated, if he can't produce, it doesn't mean squat. But I will only put some stocks into stats if the player has the ratings/potential to back them up. use things like the 'Minor League Report' from the reports tab to check who is classed as 'Overmatched at X Level' or 'Possibly ready for X Level' - go to that prospects and then check their key tools Demote/Promote manually. If a prospect is doing well in a level, keep them there for at least 50-60 games. Do not jump the gun when it comes to promotions, since it can lead to serious regression (even if they seem fine after being promoted initially). Max one level promotion per season (ie if they start at A, max is A+). Dev Lab I've had a lot of good success stories with the hitter Dev Labs. But those are a bit of a hit or miss. When they hit, they hit, but when they miss, it can miss your player up (though this is rare) players with good Work Ethic and Intelligence (either or both) have better chances of succeeding in DevLab. If your players' progress is very bad at the start, don't worry, it's very likely to change as he gets more days under his belt. If he's struggling 5 days out of a 4-month long program, it's negligible overall. Unless you are really being risky, don't bother putting players in to work on something where their current rating is already at the potential. In this case, only an outstanding outcome will be beneficial, since they won't have room to improve their current rating. Granted, you can always put guys into programs to improve their pitches, or defense, or speed, etc., since those don't have a potential cap. As mentioned above, player personality has an impact on how well they do in the lab. So, keep that in mind if you are choosing between two guys to send in. It's not a huge influence, but it is there. Because the lab opens immediately when the offseason begins, free agents have not yet filed. Be careful not to put guys into the lab who are about to walk. If you ask AI to fill the lab you will not run into this problem. It is a subtle passive system, on the scale of coaching influence, so it may be hard to see a clearly noticeable impact. I would personally spend about as much time on setting player focus as I would spend on getting good coaches. I would probably set it for my major league roster, for top prospects, and for a few intriguing guys. However, you can set it for your entire organization if you would like. Draft and team building Draft 2 catchers yearly with 50+ C rating Check injury proneness Focus on college arms Hitters- Gap>Con>Avoid K>Eye>Power -Adding onto the above, for a lower end hitting prospect, contact > eye > power For batter: contact > eye > power. Pretty standard looking for high potential guys that I can slowly develop over the years. Unless they're some defensive wiz, I have a strict rule against <45 AvK Pitchers Movement>Stuff>Cont FIP-, ERA+, WPA, K/BB to see how pitchers truly doing RPs Stuff LHP preferred SPs Stamina and Control Ground Ballers favored Check waivers daily Check trading block daily Check FA daily Trade for fringe 24-25 SP prospects 50+ stuff pot, control, move, 3 plus pitches, and decent stamina to convert to SPs Check Indys for purchasable players beginning of their season, off-season, and mid-season Keep 40-man roster spots open Don't sign players to deals that last past 33yo Review Roster for salary cutting, trade options, roster and MiLB needs, and gameplan for 3 seasons Cut old or non-developed MiLB players If contract extension is more than 20% of budget, look for trades If asking more than $20 mill, if no trade, give them qualifying offer to get a draft pick Look at 1-year deals for arbitration players to give them cheaper contract if you think arbiter will rule in their favor Try to match players to stadium strengths and coaching preferences to players acquired to maximize output Keep MLB ready player per position on MiLB roster in case of injury if no prospect is ready to come up to fill in Fill your minor league depth with leaders and high work ethic players. I've done two drafts in OOTP 24 and they've been super weak after rounds 5-7. I'll just draft based off personality at that point. These players will keep your top prospects happy. Look to add players with Leader/captain to each org Have high catcher ability Catchers throughout your organization. Your pitching prospects will play better. Make sure to add to 40-man before Rule 5 Draft, and release guys from 40 man after as needed if no risk or don’t care about waiver pickup Int FAs who come with High Potential and mid/above average Overall develop well. Only sign at good bargain and long term: get Arbitration after the contract so max as much as you can if you think will be a star Set and lock dev for MLB and prospects above 40 overall Set and lock positions for certain players Check for early extension options for upside players Sign FAs to fill MiLB needs Look at Indys for players to purchase Create Short Lists for Prospect targets, MLB trade targets, FA targets, and Promotable Prospects Match Players, if possible, to coaching strengths and stadium leans Attempt to adjust settings to pull 45+ level guys in only Blow all your extra money on scouting and development because you lose what you don’t spend, anyway. Review stadium to build team to its strengths When rebuilding: (1) Set a high development budget and scouting budget, (2) set all your scouting to amateur and minor league. Search out any starter and occasionally ace reliever who’s asking contract is low due to injury or some other factor like age, and give them one- or two-year contract do purges every other month (always after the draft and at the beginning of each season). develop prospects and sign them to team friendly deals early. Cut/trade bad personality traits if possible If wanting player to learn new position at MLB level, play them there in Spring Training International Complex players 25+ in their currents for hitting or pitching stuff. 20/60 potentials-aren't ready yet but once they are 18/19yo and start to get 25 and 30 currents they can hold their own in rookie In season, wait to promote until DSL league begins to save service time Lineup building Spot, Qualities 1, Highest OBP on team; Speed is important but ability to get on base matters much more. Contact important as well. Guys who get on base 2, Highest wRC+ on team; Very high OBP; Best overall batter on the team; Must be consistent and balanced 3, Good overall batter; High wRC+; Less important than #5 spot; Likely 4th best hitter overall 4, Most powerful hitter on the team: Must have very high SLG%, HR, ISO 5, Good overall batter with extra emphasis on power. High wRC+; High SLG%; More important than #3 spot; Like 3rd best hitter overall 6, Average/good overall batter with emphasis on baserunning; high OBP and SB 7, Average overall hitter, slowest 8, Average overall hitter, above avg baserunner 9, Worst hitter on the team; lean speed and OBP Staff Building SP with 75 stamina gets the longest hook possible, pitchers with good control pitch around more, ground ballers use infield shift and infield in more, etc. And I enable the aggressive tiredness hook for every pitcher. For the bullpen I love to use 2 stoppers (ideally one lefty and one righty). I use my two best relievers with 30+ stamina as stoppers set to 7th & close game with high leverage as the secondary usage. I've used a 25 stamina guy similarly but set him to 8th & close. I'm sure a 20 stamina guy would work well but I just haven't tried it. use 1 or 2 setup guys and the rest of the bullpen on middle relief or long relief, but the stoppers put in the most work. Making sure your pitchers work well with your ballpark is also very important set my minor league coaching staff to prioritize the type of pitcher that I want in the MLB. For example, if you want groundball pitchers in the MLB make sure that your AAA and AA coaches focus on ground ballers. leave your DSL staff as neutral because you aren’t able to draft ground ballers How you want your RL, A, and A+ staff to be set up is up to you. I’ll usually go neutral unless I have two or three prospects that I’m drooling over. make sure that your bench coach setting for hooking relievers and prefer right/left match ups is cranked to the highest possible setting Look for lefty relievers with good stats against righties for specialists Players who develop well: 2024 Start SEA: Harry Ford, Cole Young, SD: Ethan Salas, Luis Campusano, Graham Pauley, Dylan Lesko BAL: Moises Ballesteros, Coby Mayo, Braylin Tavera, Enrique Bradfield Jr, STL: Ivan Herrera, KC: Blake Mitchell, Mason Barnett, NYM: Kevin Paraa, Daiverson Gutierrez, Mark Vientos, Jett Williams, Drew Gilbert, Ryan Clifford, LAD: Dalton Rushing, Thayron Liranzo, Andy Pagas, BOS: Kyle Teel, Roman Anthony, Miguel Bleis CWS: Edgar Quero, Samuel Zavala, NYY: Agustin Ramirez, SF: Adrian Sugastey, CLE: Ralphy Velazquez, Khalil Watson, Chase Delauter, LAA: Nolan Schanuel, Chase Silseth CIN: Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Victor Acosta, Edwin Arroyo, Hector Rodriguez, Cam Collier, COL: Adael Amador, Benny Montgomery, ARI: Jordan Lawlar, Druw Jones, PHI: Aidan Miller, Andrew Painter, TB: Carson Williams, WAS: James Wood, MIN: Walter Jenkins, Gabriel Gonzalez, Emmanuel Rodriguez, MIL: Luis Lara PIT: Lonnie White Jr, CHC: Kevin Alcantara, 2024 Entry Hitters: Travis Bazzana Draft, Jac Caglianone Draft, Charlie Condon Draft 2025 Entry Hitters: Ethan Holiday Draft, 2026 Entry 2027 Entry Hitters: Billy D’Amiano Draft, Jim Adams Draft, Joe Baker Draft, Robby Trumpy Draft, Howie McCormack Draft, Chris Miller Draft, Steve Ferguson Draft, Alejandro Herrera Draft, Luis Alaniz Draft, Ronnie Kyser Draft, Mike Strand Draft, Alejandro Herrera Draft, Alejandro Rivera Draft, Jonathon Rule Draft, Pitchers: Jonathan Thames Draft, Chris Bailey Draft, Mike Beck Draft, Bob Campbell Draft, 2028 Entry Hitters: Jimmy Murdock Draft, Esteban Cazarin Draft, Jim Skubic Draft |
