Baez update (not to rub it in, just to record what you're dealing with, for posterity):

Quote:

6 HR, 37 RBI
OPS+ of 47
errrrm…it's progress?

I hope that means more Trey Sweeney but I know it just means three more years of misery.

Tigers are at 66-66. Is this a sign of development and growth or a product of how many purely awful teams there have been in baseball since 2019? Or is it maybe both or something else entirely? What are people's thoughts about the club sitting at .500 as they finish up August?

I am still trying to get my arms around being at .500 after nearly a month with essentially two starting pitchers.

A week and a half of cubs, chisox, and angels isn't MLB reality but it is great ground to let young players get comfortable. Let's talk in a few weeks!

Javy is done for the year with hip surgery. Wish him well but hope that this is the end of his time in Detroit one way or another.

5 games back in September (for a Wild Card) is a ton of ground to make up but I love that they are trying.

They are not going to make up the ground needed in my opinion but they are enjoyable to watch and it has been a while since that was true. Loving this team!

I have to admit that I am officially scoreboard-watching. I'm an Angles and Orioles fan tonight!

3 back of the Twins for the 3rd WC with 18 to play.

They absolutely have to sweep the Rockies to have even a long shot at this with 9 games against KC and the Orioles coming up next.

I remain a skeptic but am ecstatic that there are meaningful September games in Detroit again. Even if they get white-washed by KC and BAL, I am happy to have a few glimmers of the post-season this late in the year. Far more than I was hoping for.

Tough loss today. Example of why it is so hard to make up a deficit in the standings. You have to play almost perfect every night and still get help. The season comes down to these next 9 games where every game is against a team that is ahead of you. Buckle up!

This is my son's first experience with serious scoreboard watching in September. I have tried to warm him. :-)

With one team ahead and two at your back door; you really can't lose at all or something slips away or creeps up.

That was some pitching performance last night. Also, thank you Cinci for doubling up the Twins allowing the Tigers to gain an important game in the standings.

Twins play the Guardians while Detroit faces KC. Rough sledding.

Had the chance to see the game live yesterday. That was a lot of fun. Riley Greene was super clutch.

How great that you were able to be there! My Wife, son, and I are thinking about going to see them in Baltimore at the end of the week. About a 5.5 hour drive. Long shot that we can, but it is a strong consideration.
