Question Problem uninstalling the game - cannot unregister license

I bought a copy of the lastest version of OOTP from their website and thanks to a typo I did I installed it in a different directory then my intended C:\Games directory (I added a "t" by mistake). So when I went to uninstall the game via the Control Panel, the uninstall program prompted me that I should deactivate the license if I intended to reinstall at a later time. I should mention that I bought the game from the website directly & did not purchase a Steam license, So I went online to get both the ley and the computer ID in order to unregister it.

However, when I did this, I got a message from the webpage where I deactivate the license stating "The license *alphanumeric license listed here* was not activated on your computer."

I know I registered it on my PC (otherwise how in the world am I able to play the game still?) and I copied and pasted both the license and computer ID correctly. So is that its way of stating "alright your license copy of the game is unregistered, you may now install it on other PC or reinstall it on the same one" or is something else going on here?

I don't want to uninstall my game just yet for fear of not being able to install or play it again due to a "all licenses are still in use" error.

I notice from the email I got (as I had forgotten what the license number was & got an email to remind me) the columns "Expiry Date" and "MP Release Date" are blank. Does that have anything to do with the "license not activated on your computer" message or something totally different?

Any help would be appreciated.

Each FastSpring (web store) version allows two installs so even if it is thinking it is still licensed on a "T:" drive, the other license would be available for a non-typo C: installation. I assume there is no second computer that is using the second license atm?

As to the Expiry Date, I just assumed it meant that the license doesn't expire.

Not for OOTP 25, I don't. I do have another PC gathering dust atm ("just in case" something unfortunate happens with the current one) and I did have OOTP 17 intalled on it many years ago, but haven't played it, let alone installed it, since WAY before the pandemic in 2020 (still have the install file saved to my backup flash drive) but I believe that would have a different alphanumeric license number and have nothing to do with what's on the current PC I'm using. Besides, it's not currently installed on the other PC anyway.

I also did some searching on Google where I learned that Windows now lets you move programs to a different folder without uninstalling them. I would do this but if I do, I don't want to run into the same scenario with the license not being unregistered. So since I don't have OOTP 25 installed on any other PC and since I unregistered the licence via the website listed in the online knowledge base, does the message "the license was not found on your computer" mean I can do this or uninstall it manually without worry?

Uninstall it from T: if not already. Install on C: Enter license. Should work fine. I’ll help flag down a developer if there are issues as you reinstall 25 on C:

There is a misunderstanding. I didn't install it on a "T:" drive, but accidentally installed the game to "C:\GameTs" (I capitalized "t" for emphasis only). Be sure to let the developers know this, should a problem arise. But it should work if I uninstall the game from "C:\Gamets" and install it to the already-existing "C:\Games" folder though, correct? Sorry for the confusion.I will post a reply to this thread with the result, whether it works or not.

Correct. Let's see where that gets you and go from there. Report back after the uninstall from gamests & then install to \games. Esp. the entry of the license into the reinstalled C:\games version. If a message comes up there, we'll react to that message.

I uninstalled the game then re-installed the game without any problems. I didn't even have to reenter the license either. Just to be safe, I created a test league based on current Seattle Mariners roster (I'm a "True to the Blue" fan), set up the pitching staff, rotation, as well as the depth and lineups, then simmed the 1st game of the 2024 season and everything worked without issue. Thanks for your assistance in resolving this.

Hah - the ONLY team in the MLB to still have yet to play one pitch of a World Series game...there's something very wrong with that fact! I feel their main problem is ownership and it always has been since George Argyros bought the team in 1983 from the 3 owners who had a stake in the team - one of them being the late actor Danny Kaye. I'm giving them until 2030 to win a pennant and that is being very generous in terms of how successful baseball teams (I mean those who win league pennants & World Series, not just keeping the team out of the red financially) should operate.

Growing up a Red Sox fan sometimes I thought it worse to get there and come so close than to not get there at all. Make sure you get the build 90 patch if you are on 88 or 89. It fixes a rookie year glitch. Just watch where you install it.

Yeah I can imagine being a Red Sox fan was just as hard to see their team come so close but to winning a World Series only to have it snatched away or witness their team wither away not even getting a shot at all.

I'll never forget 2004, though. I recall watching a league championship game at New York, can't recall what game, but Pedro Martinez was pitching. I never seen such a ruthless crowd. They were all chanting in a sing-song voice "Who's your daddy?" in between pitches late in the game & even the organist was egging them on using a melody to match the chants intending to break Pedro's concentration. I found it so amusing, I couldn't help but laugh.

But their 0-3 deficit was the greatest comeback in the history of the MLB & then swept (if I recall correctly) the Cardinals in the World Series. I was happy for them, despite Mariner brass making the bone-headed decision of letting Jason Veritek & Derek Lowe be traded for Heathcliff Slocomb. Then again, had they stayed with the Mariners they could very well had not become superstars.

Thanks for the tip on the '88/'89 rosters

Ah, not the rosters I was referring to - '89's roster is about to be great, and I still have My Griffey Jr Upper Deck in a plastic holder somewhere in the house to prove it! I meant the game build number. It's on build 90 now as 88 and 89 had issues.

Here is the link to the patch.
