How familiar are you with Hockey? My first port of call would be to start in the NHL, maybe with your favourite team(depending on who they are) - somewhere you will know the players and their styles/how you'd want them to play etc. That way you'd just have to worry about getting to know the game better.

There's a user who has made some good tutorials which can be found here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mPX...Fi-rFdm071149U

Any questions you have along the way feel free to ask here, Discord or Reddit etc - plenty of helpful users.

This is just general advice from someone who has played a lot of different management games. This certainly would apply to FHM too.

Just fire up a game with the standard start. Play a season or two knowing this won't be your long-term save. Try stuff, figure out how you play, figure out how everything works, make a dumb trade and see how bad it hurts your team, make a great trade and see how much it helps. Do a draft or two. Once you feel comfortable with the game you should be able to answer your own question better.

I love creating large fictional worlds and slowly importing real players over time. Historic players, the guy that just scored against my NHL team last night, and a random player I read about in a book... But that's me. Its hard to create a custom league without knowing what you actually want that league to look like.

I LOVE doing this too, but I am finding the same frustrations that made me turn it off last year.

We still can't have an entry draft for our pro leagues? Maybe I'm missing something. But this seems insane to me. Spent all this time recreating the CHL and NCAA, then they're all just free agents.

Disheartening to be honest. It's like the game is 82% there, but I'm such a stickler (I love OOTP) that the 18% customization I'm missing is a mega downer.

The game is good. It sells for $50+. More devs needed.
