Art Gardiner 1923

Here's a better option for Gardiner than the current Facepack image. This pictures him with the 1925 Columbia, SC Comers team and appeared in the 4/19/1925 edition of the Columbia Sunday Record.

The image on here doesn't show up for me. I am attempting to add an image to every single 19th century player's page (that we have an existing one of) on the BR Bullpen. I have 1871 up to 1890 complete so far.

Harry Stine vs. William Stein

Are you talking about Harry Stine (stine-001har), who has a record given from 1886 to 1888 on Baseball Reference? He is not the same person as William Stein, the left-handed pitcher. In 1888, Harry Stine started the season with Portland. The Lewiston Sun-Journal described his career to that point and gave his age as 23. William Stein was only 20 in 1888.

I was wondering if the stats assigned to Harry and William were that of the same person which they turned out to be. I didn't know if there were 2 major leaguers or just the one getting confused with someone else or an imaginary name. I was not aware however that Harry was a minor leaguer.

The confusion comes from the fact that for many years, Stein's first name was unknown and at one point the 1890 Athletics stint was credited to Harry C. Stine - the minor leaguer. Some of the BR Bullpen pages still have outdated information like this.

William Stein's grandson reached out to us at the SABR Biographical Research Committee, and sent us the Stein photo, while also confirming his identity.

I'm very active with Committee and any changes we make are reflected on baseball-reference.com. So any information about major league players on baseball-reference is as accurate as it can be, though we still uncover new details etc on regular basis.

I'm a SABR member myself as well as a BR Bullpen admin as of this year and my current goal is 19th century players and so far I have added the images discovered by everyone here to the pages and removed ones that were incorrect, using tnfoto's spreadsheet for reference for every year from 1871 to 1890. I noticed a large number of the main Baseball Reference pages are still missing images (ex: Lou Meyers whose image was discovered nearly a decade ago) as well as having incorrect ones despite some of the discoveries being made by people on here years ago (ex: James Cavanaugh, Jacob Doyle, John Fox) and I been emailing them a ton lately (Bullpen admins have no control over the main Baseball Reference so I can't do it myself). I'm currently stuck on the 1891 debuters category with George Boone because I noticed the image someone posted of him on here was removed, despite him not being listed as a missing player on the spreadsheet and so I was wondering if there was some specific reason for that before I edit the page.

Here is the requested image of Boone, located in newspapers archives online (specifically the 5/6/1900 edition of the Louisville Courier-Journal).

If you don't have access to these resources, I might suggest downloading one of the Facepacks. They have all the photos combined into one and might save you some searching.

Ryan Howard in a Colorado Rockies uniform

He signed a minor league deal with them in late 2017 and was only in the farm system for a month or two. This looks wrong on so many levels in my opinion.

Bill R. Moore 1986

Here's a nice front-facing photo for Moore, from a pre-season photo shoot in 1986. He was pictured in the 9/15/1986 edition of the Montreal Gazette and mistakenly identified as Bob Sebra (the paper corrected the error the next day).

Ken Reitz 1972

When dr. jteeee had this picture up on his site back a few years back, it was noted that the pic didn't enlarge, unlike most of the doctor's pictures.

Well, if you want a larger version, and don't mind trading the watermark for an autograph, here's a better version of this relative rarity, courtesy of Main Line Autographs:

The picture was originally produced by famous baseball photographers George Burke or George Brace. The Brace/Burke studio has an online store at http://www.bracephoto.com/. Their special orders page allows you to request pictures of specific players. You might also try your luck there.
i wonder if this pic can be colorized

I should probably have cleaned up a little of the red halo around the cap that palette.fm left but I got lazy.

Dang, these are starting to get good. (I can still remember cringing at the muddy peach used for skin tones, back when.)

Photo editing software has gotten way more sophisticated since "back when". I can't imagine where it will go in the next several years.
