Hockey is my favorite sport as well, but I don't expect uber realism in sports games. I came to the realization that wasn't going to ever happen years ago. There has to be a level of appeal to both casual and hardcore sports gamers in order for a game to have a better chance of being successful. Hockey is already a niche game. FHM is an extremely niche game.
It’s more than just bugs. Is it a bug that the AI still doesn’t know how to navigate the salary cap effectively. Choosing not to re-sign key players. Trading key players away for scraps or leaving top tier players in free agency. That’s not a “me problem” lol, as you put it. It’s a fundamental game issue. No one is expecting an “Uber” realistic game but I am expecting that the core mechanics of the game work. The way I see it, the only way the game can even be close to realistic which I’m willing to bet the majority of people want is to play with the salary cap off.

No but I expect the features that are in the game to work correctly.

The core mechanics of the game work fine, just not to your liking. Hence why I said it's a "you problem". I've stopped worrying about what the AI does with its teams and just worry about the team I'm controlling. You can cut back the number of trades so it doesn't happen as frequent. As I've said before, as soon you start expecting realistic AI in sports games, most of the time the game will be ruined for you.

Not to mention its pretty easy to adjust the cap to make it so the trades don't happen, just like how the cap would go up in real life and is expected to over the next few years.

Just want to make this clear that I'm not saying you shouldn't be upset by the things you mentioned. I'm just one that doesn't put much stock into "realistic AI" in sports game. I think the sooner anyone else does the same the more they will likely enjoy the game.

A lot of code would likely have to be rewritten to keep the AI from doing things you mentioned. The contract terms would be first, because that's where it starts. Players ask for insane contracts or are already signed to insane contracts, so the AI corrects this by trying to shop and or trade said players. I mean real life GM's are struggling to keep their teams under the cap, so I don't have high expectations for a game AI to do much better.

I would consider team management a "core mechanic" of a sports office management game.

And it works, just not to your liking.
