Team Strategy Settings

The manual states that if I play out my games, I don't need to set up these settings. However, there are things that play out, such as base coaches handling runners, that I don't seem to have any control over. I have noticed in the last 3 games that I lost to the last place team, that their base runners seem to always be very aggressive, whereas my runners did not seem to try for the extra base. I feel that this is what cost me in these games. When I checked my team strategy settings, baserunning was one notch above the midway point. Do I need to set up the Team Strategy settings, or is there something else I'm missing?

I don't know the answer about how much Team Settings impact this (they must at some levels and I set them to a preset and tweak), but I have noticed a difference in the game when I pump up baserunning in individual players..who are decent baserunners. My guess without knowing the details is that this other, possibly worse team, just happened to have a lot of players with high baserunning scores which the AI pushed.
