If someone has 20 combinators maxed out, they spent over $1000 USD. Guaranteed.
I have a 98% maxed out bronze team and I’m 100% FTP.

Definitely possible. Whats your PT league team like? Collection / Missions?

I neglected my league team for awhile to focus on combinators but now I’m up to gold. I have roughly like 25 missions left. It’s doable but you either have to focus on having a great league team but if you get into PeL you have to compete with the whales.

A for instance is the 92 Ashburn card, which is very good in low diamond tournaments. If you've completed the BBRef set then you have a lot of combi food for this card, as almost none of the low diamond BBRef cards are useful in league but are very useful for upgrading Ashburn (or any other BBRef combinator you might draw). Those, plus the relatively cheap Robin Roberts (about 7K for 1600 combi points) makes for an inexpensive upgrade to Level 5. Fill in the extras with long-time teammates Willie Jones and Curt Simmons (inexpensive Silvers).

Some Combinator tricks:

1. Use locked cards that aren't otherwise useful and are unlikely to be added to new missions (yes, it's guesswork).

2. Look for cards that deliver more combi points than they cost (like getting 300 combi points for a Silver that costs 150).

3. Avoid using anything above a Silver as combi food unless it adds at least 500 points, and obviously avoid using cards that are part of an uncompleted mission.
Ashburn? The card who's L10 is 215k? As a FTP'er, I'll hardly ever get 215k+ PP and if I do, it will take either a lot of time or tourney/pack luck (lol. I ripped 6 spotties this week across my 2 teams and got one diamond worth 12k).

horrible take. Yeah go play live tourneys which has notoriously boring cards.

I realized what was happening in the iron/bronze/silver ranks early on. But now people have jacked up diamond teams.

whats the point in trying to play against them if you don't have combinators?

To be honest, I tried last week to build an iron team. I spent the 200,000 points i had AND BOUGHT $100 USD to top up.

Using combinators i already had, I managed to get 4 cards to level 1, 2 cards to level 2, and ONE card to LEVEL THREE. I lost the roll on 70%+ 3 times.

I think the game has swung so far beyond what EA sports does to you to win that its just not fun like it used to be.

Really really hoping this was a one-shot deal, realizing that it doesn't help with enjoyment of the game as a really amazing card collection gets mashed by thousand dollar teams.
I lost 800,000+ points trying the Combinator Cards. Awful feeling. 26 version is way in the back of my mind unless someone helps me. I've asked for help but all I got was a link to the how its done by the person that concocted that mess. Nobody on these forums interested in helping. I was told to say goodbye to my 800,000. Yes I made a error bc I thought I understood the process & I'm basically told....Tough Sh*t Hombre....Not exactly customer service one would expect. Yes playing tournaments are a no go for me just to get crushed. I'll just try to build my points back up but as of now it'll be the end of 25 years of see ya later, b4 I get that far. Still waiting for the I'll get back to you message....All about the Benjamins

so I just pulled a Cliff Lee 102 combinator. Highest buy order is 650K, lowest sell order is 1.5 mil. I listed for 1.2 mil. Hopefully people are still buying these.

They are, at least if it's league-worthy. I just sold a 103 Skubal for two million. It's an extreme example, but 102 Lee is also very, very good. There's some action on the newest Combinators, but the older ones are dust collectors in the card shop. The Combi kings already have them if they want them.

I'm so interested to see what course the combis are going to take. I really hope there's gonna be a change in policy this year and that some juicy info gets shared well before release date. Not ranting, but I'm very clear I won't play again if it's too similar to this year. I guess that most decisions have been arrived at by now, so it's just a case of waiting to see what they are.

There needs to be more "no combinator" tournaments.

In all honesty I don't see Combinators going away - they are a money-maker designed for the Whales. Those of us who are F2P or limit our investment in PT simply have to enjoy the game for no more than the baseball season because you get left behind starting by the All-Star break.

To me, I guess the price of the game is worth 6-7 months of fun with PT and the rest of the year I go back to the Classic game. It's just not worth wishing for a PT version that doesn't cater to those willing to increase profits.

Many here will defend the PT design because "time and effort" can compete with $$, but players like me are simply unwilling to make PT a major part of our life - especially when we don't have that many years left.

After a lifetime, I still love baseball, and the Classic game is the best available to "pretend" your in the career you wanted to spend your life in
