Will buy the game of course as usual, but adding more to a mechanic of the game that barely worked as intended in the first place as the main feature is pretty disappointing. The draft combine is a farce in real life and is just out of place. Somewhat excited about the pipeline, but concerned it’s just going to be a repackaged mock draft page. I suppose a roster update is better than a non-release like FM. No online league improvements, but I suppose I should just be happy it’s likely still supported. Apple improvements thirded. After Com2Us and the destructive *league from the country east of China* update, sim community isn’t really getting a better game from 5 years ago.

It’s just interesting to me that Franchise Hockey has more complete coaching staffs in historical along with the correct owners, while OOTPB does not have at least historical owners.

Is there good/complete data somewhere on historical non-managerial coaches? How would you go about rating them? Would those ratings then need to have offsetting changes to player historical ratings for balance?

March 14th is my birthday, funny enough. And 10 days before it, the Chinese DLC for Age of Mythology releases and Daredevil: Born Again comes out. Gonna be a good couple weeks around my birthday haha. Excited for OOTP 26. Though there's still quite a few things I think the game is missing for it to be perfect in my mind, I'm looking forward to an expansion of player development.

Wish the ratings in the new ratings engine were not capped at 550, though. That was a disappointment for me from 25.

I'd be fine with ratings being random, because then at least it means they're THERE and can be modded, etc.

Question Splits

Has anything been done to improve left/right splits?

The ratings system isn’t necessarily that good for historical managers anyways. It’s all one rating across the board minus one extremely bad rating.

We're building the Mac version for MacOS 10.15 standard architectures. That is Intel and Apple Silicon. I don't think we intended it to be emulated, if that's the case.

Some of this is on our radar as potential improvements for the future but it's likely not something for this year.

Random ratings for who? What is the source that these coaches would come from?

Like everything new (aka development lab), options will probably be able to be disabled.

The improvements for OOTP26 all sound great, the Drive for the Pennant being extended to historic seasons is very welcome, but the game still lacks authenticity wrt past seasons, particularly from the deadball era (let alone the 19th century). The problems here are obvious, and it is mainly all about the play by play narrative/commentary.
For one, there were no radio broadcasts of games until the 1930s, so how can you simulate pbp description that does not try to emulate a ‘radio style’ pbp?
Moreover, even if you are willing to grant the fiction of pre-1930s radio and that pbp style, the language used to describe baseball games, the events and players, has changed significantly over time. Yet OOTP’s pbp description is the same regardless of the season, and that detracts a lot from the ‘look and feel’ for users when playing past seasons. The basic solution is also plain enough: have era-based pbp, perhaps varying it by decade. And definitely use historic newspaper accounts of games for the language in pre-radio years pbp.
But there is yet another ‘realistic baseball history’ challenge: the kinds of in-game events that are common today, like the so-called ‘checked swing’ appeal plays (by home plate ump to base ump) on called balls, simply did not occur prior to the 1960s, and were not at all common until the 1970s-80s (I dare you to watch or listen to a World Series game from even the 1960s and find a single appeal! (MLB did not even add the checked swing appeal option as a ‘comment’ to rule 8.02c until the mud-1950s I think.)
Related to this, the number of umpires officiating a regular season mlb game has changed over time, from one to two (by 1912) to three (common by 1933) and finally the four we find today. Consequently, the game events and of course their description in the pbp need to take this into account (e.g., would love to see the two-umpires situation in the deadball era be captured by the pbp!).
The ability to play past seasons with historically realistic statistical results is one of OOTP’s special virtues, but until the game has historically realistic pbp the year experience of past season play is seriously compromised.

Yep, we like to keep the game as customizable as possible, so there is indeed a setting to completely disable the draft combine if desired

Of course I've pre-ordered. I'm an OOTP addict and proud of it.
