Imo when the upscale results in the image looking more like a smoothed out mannequin than a real person I wouldn’t use it.

Thank you for the George Grant upgrade, so remarkably clear as if it was a photograph taken today.

Attached is an image of Leo Dickerman with the 1924 Brooklyn Robins.

Dickerman split the 1924 season between Brooklyn and the Cardinals, but all his decision were with St. Louis. After a disappointing start to the campaign he posted a 7-4 record with the Cardinals on the back of a 2.41 ERA.

Dickerman began a 3 season Major League career in 1923 with Brooklyn. He started 20 games and ended the season with a 8-12 record. He started 18 games for the Cardinals in his final season with a 5.58 ERA and a won loss record of 4 and 11.

can someone do a colorize-fake of Keith Drumright in a Cubs uniform? He was drafted by them originally but I can't find any shots of him in their uniform

That looks good, though there are some nice color shots of him with the Astros out there, I mean how they put a different uniform on them then colorize it however they do that.

I've been working on a lot of '50's headshots and have one of Ben Wade as a Cardinal started. I'll post it here when I've finished.

I already had this on my personal to-do list so I moved it up in the queue. I have not seen anything from the Pirates other than a side shot with no cap.

Lovely outcome in respect of both Dickerman and Wade!

Here is a 1924 image of catcher Benny Bengough with the Yankees.

Bengough was a Major League catcher for 10 seasons, starting with the 1923 Yankees. Normally in a back-up role he never appeared in more than 100 games in a season. After playing in just 30 games combined in 1923 and 1924 as a back-up to Wally Schang he did become the Yankees prime catcher in 1925, a role he never repeated.

After completing 8 seasons with the Yankees he joined the Browns as a back-up in 1931 &1932.

His League Leading fielding percentage as a catcher in 1925 did earn him MVP consideration.

Mike Cvengros made his debut with the 1922 New York Giants appearing in just a solitary game. He returned with the 1923 Chicago White Sox for what turned out to be his most successful season, pitching over 200 innings accompanied by a 12-13 record including 13 complete games. He stayed with the White Sox for 2 more seasons and his image is from 1924.

After a break of 1 year returned with the 1927 Pittsburgh Pirates before another 1 year gap finishing with 1929 Cubs.

Here is my attempt. I am not the best at creating baseball cards so I have mangled that aspect. The first image is a straight up GIMP transformation and colorization by kolorize.cc with color tweaks. The second is that same image upscaled with deepnostalgia.ai, while the last is that same upscale but with the cap and the uniform from the raw GIMPing and colorization.
I agree with the sentiments on the value of the upscaling. The older, extremely blurry or grainy images really cry out for that attention. Whether the end result is of any merit, or changes the original image to an extent where it may as well be a cartoon is another debate. In most cases I prefer as little tampering as possible. (Having just cut and pasted a Cubs uniform onto this image). The clarity of the image is hard to dismiss in the upscaled images of good source images.

Walter Wayne Backman colorized with Kolorize.cc and color tweaked using GIMP. I also ran the finished image through deep nostalgia.
