Importing from 2025 question
I been playing a lot of OOTP 25 and spent crazy amount of time working on my fictional league. I have already bought 26 but was wondering about importing as in when to do it?
Reason bring this up I recall some people saying to wait for few patches and if memory serves (and at my age it sometimes fails) some even wait until real life All Star Game. Was curious what has been your experience? Also if I import my league into 26 will I still be able to play my league in 25 also if something should happen such as bugs needing to be worked out or such? Sorry for dumb question I just never have done an import from one game to the next. |

As to the second question, the game once moved to 26 is separate and apart from your 25 version of it. So, like the multiverse, you can keep playing the OOTP25 version and play an alt OOTP26 version of it at the same time. They won't interfere with each other. Nothing "moves" off of OOTP25 per se. It is better to think of it as copied and translated into 26, leaving the original behind.

I think most people suggest moving when you are in your off-season as well, this way you avoid a lot of things "accidentally" changing. It also gives you time to go through everything with a fine-toothed comb to make sure you have everything as you'd like before you embark on your next season.

I play out every inning of every game where I normally complete two or three seasons per version. With this slow style of play I have imported my ongoing game from v4 all the way to v25 on release day. I have not had a game stopping issue doing it this way.
Having said that, I'd think that those that play many seasons per version would need to be more careful of when they make the move. A small issue may mean less to a "slow" game like mine, than it does to a game that may complete many seasons with the new version before an issue is found and then fixed. As to when to import? I would suggest you stop your current game the day after the World Series is completed. Import the game from that day into v26. This will mean when you advance the day you will move into your new season using the newest code from v26 for all of the off season events. Your financials will all be done with v26 code that may include "improvements" on how the AI handles free agents/offers, contract extensions, etc. etc. et. If you do it at a different time you will probably be fine, but importing at season's end gives you a cleaner start with the new version of the game. Also keep in mind what LansdowneSt said.. importing into v26 does nothing to your v25 file. If things go badly because of a game bug you can import the game again from v25 and start again. May not be what you want but it's better than having importing a game being possible on a "one time only" basis.
