Prospects Rankings - Tigers

Perennial OOTP player here and was really excited this year as a tigers fan since they some intriguing prospects in the system.

I was a little disappointed/surprised though that the early prospect rankings had them at like 20, even though in real life most rankings systems have them top 5 and MLB has them #1 overall.

What’s the deal??

I'm with you here. At the risk of being a homer they're fairly embarrassing given their rankings. Jackson Jobe is a particular smack as he's easily the highest rated pitching prospect. He's even been projected as a possible RoY. He's built like a year away 4th starter material as developed.

Zips is all over the place with the Tigers, so I won't quibble with current ratings as they are likely to be a rougher road, but the scouting projections seem quite low on several players. I certainly know how 25 treated a very far from reality Holliday and others as if they are HoF locks.

A couple of guys like Briceno, Hao-Yu Lee and Hamm seem rated a bit low for where they stand in the current farm, but after a couple of sims they do turn out well enough usually. Jobes stamina issue is fixed in the next patch at least, which hurts his rating if you don't manually change it. I do agree his starting ratings make him nearly impossible to start in the majors the first few months.

A couple ratings I was happy to see was Colt Keith's potentials, man does he turn out great usually. McGonigle as well is nearly guaranteed to be a future stud with a guaranteed 80 avoid Ks and HIGH contact + above avg eye. Jung was also given decent ratings for what he's shown so far IRL.

There is a statement in the roster thread that every teams 1-15 are a work in progress right now, so it sounds like there's many adjustments to come.

You literally can't fix Jobe's stamina? It doesn't stick for me.

Wait, you're right I just went to go check my current saves Jobe and he's back down..

Edit: Did some testing and I was able to get it to stick, not sure what happened

Thanks for the info, where is the roster thread? I’d like to read up more on this.

You need to turn scouting off (and also turn the prospect list to dynamic and regenerate it) to see the correct rankings and ratings. With scouting off, Jobe is the 16th overall prospect in baseball even with the low stamina (with it fixed he goes to 10). His low stamina is a typo and was already fixed for the next patch.

When you do this, you'll also see the Tigers system ranks third in the OOTP system rankings (though those are pretty simplistic compared to real life system rankings, so should be taken with a grain of salt anyway).

1-15 are pretty much correct currently (when you turn off scouting and regen the lists), it's more like 15/20 to 50 that's still being worked on.

Not to say there may not be a few adjustments to come in the higher ranges as well, but they generally should look good as is.

Thanks for all the info. Just to clarify turning off scouting is just to turn off the fog to see where the prospect ranks stack up to the perceived rankings in real life correct? Also thanks for the link to the post, I usually wait to create my main save until after opening day. Will the prospect adjustments be complete by then?

Well, it also turns off the fog around their ratings.

I'm not really sure we'll be fully 50 or so deep in the prospect rankings by OD, but should hopefully at least have top 30+ per team done by then, if all goes well.

The thing is, even now the general ratings should mostly be right on the majority of guys.

When doing the editing the get the lists looking better, a lot of that is just fine tuning, like adding or removing 20 potential points in one rating (on the 600 point under the hood scale) can sometimes jump a player 20-30 places up or down the list. It's negligible for actual performance but can be a big thing in the lists.

Nevermind, very foolish mistake. I forgot Stamina is 250 ceiling. Thanks!

I should also note, even though I think Jobe is being wronged, I did follow another poster here and run some fast sims to see how the other Tiger prospects tend to do.. I'd say right in line with their expectations. None were static, which is why I play OOTP, but most were worthwhile picks.
