George 'Showboat' Fisher 1923

The only images I am aware of that represents Showboat Fisher from his 2 year spell with the 1923 & 1924 Washington Senators depict him wearing a plain cap. I am searching for an image from that time showing him with the "W" Senator cap.

Can anyone, maybe with access to Washington newspapers from that era, help out? Thank you.

George Fisher 1923

The photos below are from the Washington Evening Star and the Washington Post respectively. Unfortunately, they do not show the Washington "W" on the cap.

Perhaps you can try identifying Fisher in the 1924 Senators team photo in the link below. It seems to me that he bears a resemblance to the player in the top row standing second from the right. Fisher was gone by the time the Senators were in the World Series, but it seems unclear as to when this photo was taken.

Thank you for your suggestion, unfortunately the image below was taken at the time of the World Series and the identifications are posted underneath.

Charlie Hollocher 1918 rare photo

Rare shot from a Sporting News panel from 1939. Post-retirement photo taken just 1 year before his suicide.

The process of identifying Fisher in a group image does appear to be the best option in respect of locating the desired image of Fisher. The image below, I believe , is from Spring Training 1923. It is not that clear in terms of being able to make a positive identification. Fisher is listed at 5'10" the same height as both Sam Rice and Nick Altrock who both appear to be present. Could Fisher be the player fourth from left immediately to the side of Altrock's right shoulder?

August 30, 2000 the Mets traded Nelson Cruz to the Oakland Athletics; any chance of a pict with him in A's uniform? (please/TY)

It's really hard to make an identification from this spring training photo, but if Fisher is in it, my pick would be the player third from left because our exemplars show him to be more square jawed.

If anyone else goes down this rabbit hole trying to help you in this quest, the following information may assist you in the search.

There were two major leaguers named Nelson Cruz around this time period. The one which is being sought is on baseball-reference at:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/p...cruzne02.shtml

He never played in the majors for the Oakland A's.

He was in the A's farm system from August, 2000 to December, 2004.

He did NOT appear on the A's spring rosters from 2001 through 2004.

I don't know if he was a non-roster invitee to A's spring camps during those four years. That seems to be the only possibility of his having appeared in an Oakland A's uniform. I tried a newspaper.com search with his name and Athletics; there were 5,000+ hits. As I started to look through them, most of them were for the other Nelson Cruz. I don't have time to look through all of them.

Milwaukee Braves uniform

OH! by the way this guy is a distant relative of mine through my mom's family I forgot to mention. On my dad's side I'm related to Ren Wylie who played for Pittsburgh in 1882 as well as a few minor leaguers from long ago.

Frank Dasso 1945

Here he is in a Boston Red Sox uniform, he played in the majors with the Cincinnati Reds only though in 1945 and 1946 so I am going to assume this pic is probably from a spring training or something.

Dasso was on the Red Sox spring rosters in 1939 and 1940. When the Red Sox sent him down to San Francisco on March 24 of 1940, it was in final payment for a fellow named Dom DiMaggio who would go on to have a fairly decent career for Boston.

I remember reading about that around the holidays a few months back! I wasn't sure if he had actually been invited to spring training with them until now so thanks. Also he was Ted Williams' roomate in the Splendid Splinter's first pro season in San Diego.
