Game Crashes with New Update

Hi Jeff,

I installed the updated version of the game and when I select historical mode, the game crashes after the Manager Setup screen.

Please help.
Thanks.

Haven't had any setup crashes with this version in a lot of historical test games, that sounds like you might have some damaged data. Try re-installing the update (or if you're on Steam, go to FHM11 in your library, right-click on it, and select Properties, then Installed Files, and then click on Verify Integrity of Game Files.)

If that doesn't work, let me know the exact setup (year and options) that you're trying when you get the crash.

Hi Jeff,

I tried but it didn’t work. For the setup, I am starting with the 1973 historical season, using end of the season rosters. Also, I do not select a team to coach or be the GM as I just want the program to auto sim the season so I can review the stats. No other options selected (everything else was default options).

I've tried that exact setup, and had Adam do the same, and it worked properly for both of us. So it seems like it's something with your game specifically. If you've already verified the file integrity/updated, I'm wondering if it's something that's preventing the game from being created. Can you create another type of game (standard, custom) or historical in another start year without getting the crash?

Hi Jeff,

I tried to create a standard game, but it crashed during the process of “save settings”. I tried another historical and it also crashed (seems to be crashing right at the final phase before it completes the process). The only thing I am able to do is load a game I created before the updated version.

That sounds like you might be low on disk space, or Windows User Account Control isn't letting you write to the disk for some reason. Check the disk space first, and if that's OK, then try starting the game (or the Steam client) by right-clicking the icon and choosing "Run as Administrator".

Hi Jeff,

I checked and have plenty of disk space. I tried to run the program as “Run as Administrator” but still having the same issues. I then opened up FHM 9 (my last version prior to FHM 11) and was able to create a new historical game without any issues.

Just thought of another thing to try: on the start screen, go to Settings, then "Misc". Change the "Custom Data Path" line to a different location. That'll change your data location to a different place on the drive, preferably a path with a very simple name (ideally, nothing but letters and/or numbers in the name, and no non-English characters); if something odd is interfering with your ability to create/save files in the existing place, that may fix it. Restart after doing that and try again.

Hi Jeff,

I went to settings and selected Misc, but there is no option to change the path of saving files.

Hi Adam,

I only see the first - four options listed with the last option being Disable Team Highlighting. Nothing listed for Custom Data Path.

That's very strange. Could you take a screenshot of the same page Adam did and post it? I'd like to see if anything else looks odd.

The "Custom Data Path" option is only available for the Windows Steam version. I guess you are using the Fastspring version, so you can just do a custom install where you choose a custom install location when installing the game.

Yes, I have the Fastspring version. I reinstalled the game using a different folder, but still having the same issues when trying to create a historical game. The game crashes during the final phase. I then restart the game and select Load Game in which I see the newly created historical game I created, but when I try to load the game crashes at the Finished Loading phase at about 65% loading.

That the game crashes when you load an unfinished new game is clear.

I can´t think of anything new in the last update that would make it impossible for you to start new games, I can´t reproduce it here either.

So if it worked before the last update, can you download the version before the last update and try again if it still works:

Fastspring Windows Installer
