It is currently August 28th in the Wide World of Baseball, which means the Major League playoffs have arrived! The regular season ends with Sacramento, Louisville, and Mexico City comfortably in the playoffs, while Buffalo, Huntsville, and Boise each fight for spots in tiebreaker games. With two tiebreaker losses, Boise misses out. After rough seasons, Fresno and Los Angeles will be relegated in favor of Union League top-2 Milkwaukee and San Antonio.

Baltimore Barons catcher Roberto Plone 🇮🇹 sets the single-game record for RBI (11), and becomes the 5th player to hit 4 HR in a game in a 17-2 beatdown of Huntsville on June 12.

Opener Jose Lopez 🇺🇸 sets a single-season record for games started as a pitcher (40). It uh, doesn't work out. Not sure what Charleston was thinking here.

After the wild card Niigata Swans absolutely shock the 8-time defending champion Tokyo Athletics in the semifinals, they run out of gas in the Nippon Series and fall to Saitama, who earns their 2nd title in history.

The Major League playoffs open with the Wild Card Game, where the Buffalo Bisons knock off the Huntsville Rocketeers in a nailbiter. Bisons starter Carlo Gadsden's 🇦🇺 (8.2 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 9/1 K/BB) complete game bid comes up short after some trouble in the 9th inning, but he gets the win as Buffalo hangs on.



The Bisons move on to take on the Sacramento Grizzlies in the semifinals. Meanwhile, the defending champion Louisville Sluggers will take on the Mexico City Aztecs.

In the semifinals, Sacramento ends Buffalo's season in a 6-game series that never felt all that close.

The defending champion Sluggers are cast out by the Mexico City Aztecs, who storm back from a 3-2 deficit to win the final 2 games on the road.

This will be Sacramento's first World Series appearance, in their first Major League season. This is Mexico City's second appearance, the last coming in 2045, where they lost in 6 games to the Brooklyn Atlantics.

The Nordic League playoffs wrap up in late August, Oslo defeating Island in the Nordic series in 6 games. Island misses out on their chance to go back-to-back.

GAME ONE


Game 1 of the World Series is a duel between the Grizzlies and Aztecs' pitching staffs, with Mexico City coming out on top. Aztecs starter Cheong-young Choi 🇰🇷 gives them 5.1 innings of 1-run ball, and the bullpen brings home a 2-1 victory. Choi was named player of the game.





GAME TWO


The Aztecs pitching staff once again comes up big in Game 2, silencing the Sacramento bats as the Grizzlies once again put up only 5 hits. Aztecs offseason pickup Hiang-ta See-to 🇨🇳 is named player of the game.





GAME THREE


The Grizzlies' bats go quiet again in game 3, with the only glimmer of hope being a 3-run rally in the 9th before being snuffed out. Aztecs starter Lucio Bray 🇧🇷 is named player of the game.





GAME FOUR


Sacramento gets a huge performance in Game 4 by legendary starting pitcher Ross Acres 🇺🇸, named player of the game. The Grizzlies bats finally come alive against follower Wing-kit Fong 🇹🇼 for 4 runs that put them over edge for their first win of the series.



GAME FIVE


In their last chance to clinch the World Series at home, the Mexico City Aztecs slam the door on Sacramento to win the title. The Grizzlies bullpen serves up batting practice as the Aztecs earn their first Major League crown.

Meanwhile in the African League, Somalia's Mogadishu Seashells are champions of the Africa Series for the first time. The seashells needed the full length of all 3 series to get here, and knock off a Luanda team that was also looking for their first title. AFL pitcher of the year Mimum Sudi put up a 7-inning shutout performance in game 7.
