The St. Louis Cardinals have learned that relief pitcher Tink Hence (AA Peoria), catcher Leonardo Bernal (AAA Memphis) and second baseman J.J. Wetherholt (AAA Memphis) have been named to the National League roster for the upcoming Prospects Game.
Hence, 22, missed the start of the season with an undisclosed injury but has served as the closer for AA Peoria since his return.
In 16 games he has gone 3-3 with nine saves and a 6.75 ERA.
A second-round pick in the 2020 draft, Hence has worked 14.2 innings during which he has struck out 18 and posted a 2.11 WHIP.
Bernal has split the season between AA Springfield (57 games) and AAA Memphis (9 games).
In his 66 games/63 starts, the 21-year-old has hit .288 with 11 home runs, 37 RBIs and 35 runs scored.
Bernal was signed as an international free agent in January 2021.
The seventh overall pick in the 2024 draft, Wetherholt has spent the 2025 season at AAA Memphis.
Serving as the lead-off hitter for the Redbirds, the 22-year-old has hit .265 with five home runs, 31 RBIs and 49 runs scored in 81 games/80 starts.
Wetherholt has got on base at a .367 clip and is slugging .391.

The St. Louis Cardinals have right-handed reliever Anthony Bender from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for AAA catcher Will Banfield.
Looking to bolster their bullpen, the Cardinals went out and acquired the 30-year-old Bender who has been serving as the Jays' closer over the last few weeks.
In 36 games this season, Bender is 3-1 with six saves and a 2.21 ERA.
He has worked 36.2 innings, during which he has struck out 46 and posted a 0.85 WHIP.
For his career, Bender pitched for three seasons in Miami before moving on to Toronto, he is 12-8 with 16 saves and a 3.12 ERA.
Bender will be eligible for arbitration at season's end.
Signed to a minor-league contract in the offseason, Banfield, 25, made his major-league debut this season getting into one game for the Cardinals.
He went 0 for 2 in a 6-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves on July 9.
The rest of the time, Banfield has been at AAA Memphis where in 56 games/52 starts, he has hit .282 with 10 home runs and 32 RBIs.
It was the Cardinals' minor-league depth at the catching position which made Banfield expendable.
