Buying packs vs going to marketplace

I'm debating on spending the PPs I earned through achievements between buy packs or going to the marketplace to pick up players to fill holes.

I don't have a long term goal - just playing for fun.
  • Just want to be competitive in the Perfect Leagues - not expecting to reach Diamond
  • Not looking to complete missions at this time
  • Interested in getting MLB Live cards to earn PPs in PT Live

I wonder which is better: Buying packs and selling off cards that I don't want or just buy what I want from the marketplace?

Don’t buy live cards for PT Live.At best you’ll probably average about 200 PP per day from PT Live.Depends how many PPs you have but would recommend doing the missions to get Stieb. He should be good for a few months.Buy standard packs and be lucky.

Mission Reward Cards

Every Mission Reward card is a curse to be avoided because you compete against every other Mission Reward card.

The only viable strategy if you're not completing missions is to buy players in the card shop. Buying packs is a waste of points even if you're looking to complete missions because the typical standard pack gets you four irons, a bronze, and something else. "Something else" might be a perfect card, but odds say that will happen once every 200 packs opened. Odds of a diamond are once in 30 packs These ratios remain for any other kind of pack purchased with the exception of diamond and perfect packs, which aren't even available right now.

If you insist on buying packs, the least bad option would be gold packs since your odds of pulling a valuable live gold are not so bad. Any gold cards pulled could conceivably play on your league team, and you could sell the ones you don't want to finance more pack purchases.

Hibees70's comments about PT Live are accurate. The PT Live leader for April has earned 6145 points, which is 360-some points per day, That's enough to buy one standard pack every three days, although the big bonus in PT Live is scoring 100+ packs for finishing first for the week or top four for the month. Be prepared to spend a lot on live cards (and a lot of consideration setting up your daily rosters) if you want to compete with the top players there. If you're relying on random pack pulls, expect about 200 per day if you take it somewhat seriously and buy some of the overachievers you haven't acquired from packs.
