Recalculating the Ratings

I read somewhere that the best time to recalc player ratings was the day before opening day. However, I can't seem to find where to make that happen? I am playing historical and set to recalculate based on real stats after each year. Maybe I am confused; but is that to recalculate based on the real stats of the season I am getting ready to play, meaning if I am playing 1972, my ratings should be based on the real 1972 stats? I have a few players, mostly pitchers that the ratings look low compared to what they really did. As an example, Steve Carlton and Catfish Hunter had (in my opinion) a better year than Tom Seaver. Yer both pitcher's rating seem well below Seaver.

Recalc of the ratings happens automatically at the beginning of the off season if you have recalc based on real stats set to on.. What happens just prior to the season is adjustment of the output via auto calc which tests your league and adjusts the output for the best match to historical.

Its one of those situations, not unusual actually, where historical inputs don't give historical outputs. In this case historically based ratings and historically based league totals modifiers when combined don't give the historical output.. The system runs automatically just before opening day play if you have the autocalc box checked. If you check the precalc box it uses historical modifiers.

No manual recalcing is needed. As Brad K says the players Recalc just before the off-season. You are confusing this, I think, with League Modifier calcs.

First, back to the players, the ratings of the players depend on the recalc window. It can be one-, three-, or five-year recalc and be affected by other things like if you double count the current year ratings.

If scouting is on, that is clouding the true ratings. If at 100%, it's the actual ratings. Ratings on the 1-100 scale show the greatest granularity whereas smaller scales (1 to 10, or 20-80 by 5's, etc) can create a greater fog (and intentionally so) due to rounding.

Back to league calcs, on League Settings, Stats & AI, right-hand side, Accuracy Settings, ensure "Use Auto-Calc of Modifiers (Recommended) is toggled ON. Again, with this done, no manual running of calcs is required. There is a reason it is recommended to be on. Trust it..

Yes, the OP has mistaken "recalc" for "Auto-calc".

It has to be the single most common confusion for new players. It took me a couple of years to get it straight.
