With a 6-5 win over the Tampa Bay Rays, the Chicago Cubs have assured themselves a place in the National League playoffs.
At 88-59, the Cubs lead the St. Louis Cardinals by 10.5 games in the National League Central Division with 15 games remaining in the regular season. In the race for the top seed in the NL playoffs, the Cubs trail the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves by 6.5 games. The playoff berth is the first for the Cubs since 2020. Chicago last made the World Series in 2016 when it defeated the Cleveland Indians in seven games. |

With a 9-7 victory over the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees not only wrapped up the title in the American League East Division but the overall top seed in the upcoming playoffs.
The victory improved the Yankees to 98-50 for the season, putting them 15.5 games ahead of the second-place Red Sox with 14 games remaining. Boston owns the second-best record in the AL, meaning that no other team has a chance to move ahead of New York in the final weeks of the season. |
