Ideas Solicited

Hi team, I am trying to create a quasi-WBC three-tier promotion-relegation universe featuring three sets of twelve countries playing full seasons rather than it being tournament-style.

Things were progressing OK but I have come up against a headwind I was hoping some of you might help spitball to see if we can come up with a way to counter it.

In the name of reality, I only want players from each respective country representing them. (I do plan to add some historical players to their "origin" countries along the way but that should be easy to manage manually once I get the main process down pat.)

To me, the best way seemed to be to set up new regions for each country and allocate each team accordingly, then have the entire Draft as regional rounds.

However, when I went to set up these new regions it started corrupting the world.dat and I was lucky to escape having all saves on the version in question (v25) corrupted by the process thanks to being fastidious about backing everything up separately.

So obviously I'm gun-shy about trying this avenue again, even though I suspect the problem was caused by my including the & character in the abbreviation for one of the new regions.

The other alternative is to just create a number of players every season under each participating nationality. However, I can't get my head around how to incorporate this without it being incredibly convoluted, or even figure out how to get it done. I'd much rather an automatic way as the foundation and any manual intercession by me being more of an add-on.

Plus, I'd like to be GMing Australia and can't see how to make it so there's some challenge involved other than just a whole heap of administrative duties.

Anyone out there got any cunning plans on how I might go about achieving any of this? Partial or whole solutions greatly welcome and much appreciated in advance.

Thanks

G

I'll bite because I may have/am trying to set up a similar type universe.

Have you thought of using "dummy" leagues set in each nation/region that have any number of populated teams with any or no set schedule (or think of it as a short spring training league) and then setup a separate pro-rel tournament as a full season round-robin drawing players from these dummy nation league pools? I think the pro-rel business would have to be run manually, not using the ingame feature, but the dummy leagues (any size, level, PCM etc) would provide large enough pools of players with the gamut of skills that OOTP automatically generates for leagues and then using the tournament setup, there's a bit of randomness added in for player selection to fill up the teams. You could possibly curate each team's roster to your liking and still have the challenge of putting together a competitive Team Australia each year. Finances would be taken out of it but that's the trade-off and you could probably work around that. Not sure if running the pro-rel league as a tournament forces you into other trade-offs you'd be willing to accept regarding draft, history, stat-keeping, etc.

Thanks bud. In the end I put my big-boy pants on and went and tried again. Without wanting to jinx it I think it must have been that I'd used the & symbol in one of the regional abbreviations and it didn't like that, because now all seems to be working as planned.

Combining those with regional rounds in the draft means the countries only select eligible players. It's finicky, because you need to edit the player creation data for each level so that only suitable players are created plus I'll need to edit those further whenever there's a promotion and relegation (fortunately, in this universe, not an annual occurrence).

So it's not perfect by any stretch but hopefully it's close enough.

Appreciate the reply pal.

Separate national leagues, and then create an Association? But unclick the unified draft option?
