BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

19 April 2315

CBO Analysis

We are 13 games into the 2315 CBO season with some teams already possessing huge leads over others. While it is never too late for a team to surge or falter, there are signs that some storylines are afoot. Two teams atop the CBO power rankings already have 10 victories, while another two already have more than 10 losses. Here are the Power Rankings:

Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (141.4, ++)
2) Nahant Celtics (141.4, -)
3) Spectacle Island Reapers (137.6, ++)

8) Salem Witch Hats (114.7, ++)
9) Concord Radstags (111.7, --)
10) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (108.7, --)
11) Lexington Synths (100.8, ++)
12) Roxbury Rad Sox (99.8, --)
13) University Point Deathclaws (97.8, --)
14) FHE Yao Guai (87.2, ++)
15) The Slog Ghouls (87.2, ++)
16) Bunker Hill 75ers (84.2, ++)
17) Malden Grognaks (83.2, --)
18) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (81.2, --)
19) Southie Brews (77.2, --)
20) Diamond City Swatters (70.3, +)
21) Egret Ninjas (68.3, --)
22) Easy Town Assaultrons (66.3, +)
23) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (64.3, -)
24) County Crossing Bloodbugs (63.3, --)
25) Goodneighbor Hancocks (62.3, --)
26) Cambridge Coursers (59.3, --)
27) Starlight Killers (20.7, +)
28) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (2.9, -)

Brotherhood League

The largest league lead is here with the team tied for the CBO's top record, Nahant, holding a nine-game lead over the team with the CBO's worst record, Nordhagen Beach. Second through sixth include Salem at two back, The Slog and Malden at four back, and County Crossing and Easy Town at five back. We will have more about the Bloodbugs in the Noteworthy News section.

But first, let's break down the disaster that has been the Nordhagen Beach regular season up to this point. First of all, the Party Boys looked as though they were back in the Nuka Cup Tournament, advancing all the way to the semifinals before succumbing to Atom, the eventual Nuka Cup champions. However, the regular season did not remain on that high. In fact, the Boys started 0-9 before a 9th-inning rally of five runs helped them to defeat the Ghouls, 8-5. Six of the 12 losses have been by two runs or fewer, including three extra-inning losses. There was also that 18-0 loss to the Celtics. Nordhagen Beach made a panic move, too, dumping SP Beachboy Nut and SS Pipe Wallcrawler for four Diamond City prospects and a 2nd-round pick. We feel as though more veterans will end up getting dumped for a complete rebuild.

Institute League

The other team tied atop the CBO's standings, Fort Hagen, also has a large lead over the last-place Starlight Killers, whose 0-9 start matched the Boys. Teams in the middle of the league are Concord at two back, Lexington at three back, Bunker Hill at four back, and Sunshine Tidings and Cambridge at five back.

The Silver Shroud have been on fire to start the season with a combination of good hitting and pitching. The Shroud are 2nd in the BL in runs scored (69) and runs allowed (46). While their home run production (tied for 10th with nine) has not been great, Fort Hagen is 1st in batting average (.300). Most of that high average is thanks to the outstanding start for C Malificent Shaw (.556/1/12). Unfortunately for the Shroud, 3B Diamond Ball (.219/2/7) was injured by a frag grenade and will miss the rest of the regular season. On the mound, 34-year-old Nuke Laloosh (0-2, 6.97) has been the only pitcher struggling, while La'Ray Kalel (3-0, 2.82), Sarthis Idren (3-0, 1.16), and Clubhouse Treelover (2-1, 2.55) have been dominant.

Minutemen League

In the ML, there is a jumble so far with four games separating 1st from 7th. Quincy and Spectacle Island are atop the league, while Atom (one back), University Point (two back), Southie and Jamaica Plain (three back), and Goodneighbor (four back) round out the league standings.

Atom, coming off the Nuka Cup Tournament championship, has won four straight (tied for 2nd best in the CBO behind the Reapers' seven-game streak) to plant themselves just behind the Gunners and Spectacle Island. Part of that success has been to the crazy hot start of C Tawfiq Kibowen (.359/8/19), the CBO's homers and RBI leader, among other statistics. The next closest in homers is five, shared by three players. RF Candy Kline (.292/4/11) has also contributed to the power of the SCA's second-best home run hitting team (18). Ace Doug Creep (3-0, 2.76) has paced the SCA's second-best starting rotation (3.18 ERA).

Railroad League

Always listed last, but hardly ever a weak league, the RL also has a four-game gap from 1st through 4th. Oberland is atop, followed by Glowing Sea and Vault 81 at one back, Roxburty at two back, FHE at three back, and Egret and Diamond City at four back. The Swatters have benefited from the acquisition of Nut, whose pitching has contributed to two of their five victories and a 5-5 mark since the trade.

The T-51s may be atop the RL right now, but we are not expecting them to stay there once the Dwellers warm up. For now, their offense (80 runs, 2nd in SCA) has carried them. SS Stormin Normin MacDonald (.429/2/12) has powered the machine, along with veteran C Racky Westheim (,.342/1/5). Pitching has not been as good, not counting ace Ahsoka Tano (3-0, 2.25), who has carried the team 9th in runs allowed (61) and 11th in Starters ERA (5.20). The other three starters have to pitch better for the T-51s to maintain this win rate.

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

April 12 - His critics are starting to suggest that Nahant's Edward Cox doesn't have much left, but the 36-year-old Cox prefers not to think that way. He cooked up a remarkable week in the last seven days, topping it off with the Player of the Week Award in the North Charles Association.

The veteran right fielder for the Celtics rolled to a .500 average (12-for-24) with 2 home runs and 8 RBIs.

Stormin Normin MacDonald must have thought he was dreaming. First he went on an exceptional week-long batting spree, bashing the ball at a .536 clip, then the Oberland shortstop finds out he has been chosen the league's best performer and gets the SCA Player of the Week Award.

He told BNN reporters in the postgame, "It was a great week for me. I could see the ball so well. Plus some of the balls seemed to have good eyes, too."

For the week MacDonald batted .536 (15-for-28) with 1 home run and 9 RBIs.

April 19 - His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Malificent Shaw was rewarded with the North Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

The scrappy Fort Hagen Silver Shroud catcher hit .571 while collecting 12 hits in 21 at-bats, no home runs and 6 RBIs.

A veteran of baseball wars, Baywatch Fischler knows how to stay with a stroke that's working for him. The 36-year-old right fielder for the Gunners batted .600 last week on his way to the South Charles Association Player of the Week award.

His noteworthy week also featured 12 hits in 20 at-bats, no home runs, 6 RBIs and 9 runs scored.

CBO Noteworthy News

19 April - The County Crossing Bloodbugs franchise is in mourning today for the owner, Doc Weathers. He passed away after a brief illness yesterday at Medford Memorial Hospital. Team spokesmen, speaking anonymously, told reporters that his son, Apollo Weathers, would take charge of running the team. Inside sources said that the younger Weathers would be lenient in management style and penny-pinching in financial matters.

April 7-19 - Retirement News: Several CBO greats have already announced that the 2315 season will be their last as a player. That list includes RF Tomas Jones, SP Gavin Eviritts, RP Vince McCort, P Aaron Somer, C Biter Trout, and IF Wally Warwick.

11 April - The league is investigating the circumstances behind Diamond Ball's injury. Ball was injured from a blast from a frag grenade that sent shrapnel into a group gathered outside of the F-T-H Pour House bar. It is not suspected that Ball was the target, but the Fort Hagen settlement is concerned that it could be a raider attack.

I can't believe one was the Boys! The party might have finally stopped

My computer had another bad day. I don't think it will see its fifth birthday at this point. I have backed up everything again and will probably give it until next weekend before I attempt to progress anymore. That way, if anything starts to go awry, I can make the time to back up the entire league again. I also hope computer prices do not blow up within the next month. That will probably be the time I start looking to buy. Since my car seems to also be infected with gremlins, I guess I will be spending a pretty penny next month.

They are actually on a winning streak in Week 3, so they are not in the "worst of all time" conversation just yet. However, they are most certainly not approaching their past glory until they have 100% turnover from that last championship team. I guess they rewarded their championship veterans because they did not offload multiple guys whose stats were dropping over the past several seasons.

Luckily with tariff worries companies were able to stock up ahead of time. Hopefully that means prices will stay reasonable for the near future. But I wouldn't wait too long

Nice to see the 'Boys having loyalty though. OOTP seems to not consider how long someones been with a team when choosing to keep or get rid of them. Makes sense, but I like when teams keep their core guys for long periods

CBA Finals Set

The Commonwealth Basketball Association's 2314-2315 season is down to two teams for the rights to claim the second-ever title in CBA history. And they are a familiar two teams since these teams met last year in the finals: Salem vs Airport.

The Shadows got here by overcoming an 0-2 series deficit versus Medford to take the series 4-2. Salem fell in the first two games to the NCC champion Irish, 122-108 and 120-109. Upon returning home, the Shadows won both, 133-124 and 122-106. They then won at the Irish, 125-117. In Game 6, Salem took the series, 106-89.

For Airport, the defending champions, they took on a formidable Boston Bugles team. However, Boston was no match in a 4-1 series win for the Aviators. Airport won their first two games at home, 127-119 and 140-119. They then dropped Game 3, 126-105. The Aviators then found their winning ways again, winning Game 4 at Boston, 121-112, and then Game 5 at Airport, 111-108.

The Finals are expected to be a blowout, with Airport expected to run away with their second title. Airport's DA Forte is an imposing force, and someone that the Shadows will not be able to contain him. Salem has JB Letterhead and Licker Sam Arnold as their two stars, while the Aviators rely on Brick Watson to dish the ball to Forte. Airport 4, Salem 1

NEBA Finals

The NEBA has already begun its finals between the Concord Colonels and the Nuka World Wheelz. The Colonels, the third seed in the North-Downtown Region, knocked off the North Division champions, the Portsmouth Hoops and then defeated the fourth-seeded Portland Irish, which had knocked off #1 seed Jamaica Plain. For the Wheelz, the team that finished the regular season with the best record of 55-7, they defeated the fourth-seed Spartans of Brockton and then the #2 seed Plymouth Sea Dogs, which had defeated the #3 Sandwich Royals.

Last season, the Wheelz defeated Jamaica Plain to win the championship, 2 games to 0.

The May 1 Super Post, Part 1

CBO Players of the Month

NCA Hitter - Even though he is a newcomer to Commonwealth Baseball Organization, Lance Tinter put up some good numbers in April and earned the NCA Batter of the Month award.

He was one of Malden's offensive leaders with a .378 average in 24 games. He also racked up 6 home runs, 20 RBIs, and 22 runs scored.

SCA Hitter - Atom Cats fans believe they've got a talented young star in Tawfiq Kibowen.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in April, as he hit .378 with 12 home runs, 25 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

The end result was the catcher being named the South Charles Association Batter of the Month.

NCA Pitcher - There's no doubt that Silver Shroud starter Sarthis Idren earned his North Charles Association Pitcher of the Month award. He left absolutely no room for doubt as he mowed his way through the opposition in April.

During the month Idren was 5-0 with a 1.21 ERA. He made 6 starts, tossed 44.2 innings and had 35 strikeouts.

SCA Pitcher - April was a magical month for Jesh Baka of Glowing Sea. He held the South Charles Association hitters spellbound, conjuring up a 5-0 mark and a 2.38 ERA.

Baka also chalked up 6 starts, 41.2 innings and 21 strikeouts.

For this outstanding performance he was rewarded with the Pitcher of the Month trophy.

NCA Rookie - Lance Tinter's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Malden left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month.

During the month he hit .378 with 6 doubles, no triples and 6 home runs. Tinter also scored 22 times and drove in 20 runs.

SCA Rookie - A standout performance in April earned Jesh Baka the Rookie of the Month Award in the South Charles Association. When his name was penciled in to start by the Glowing Sea skipper, it meant trouble for opposing teams.

For the month of April the 23-year-old Baka recorded a 5-0 won-lost mark with a 2.38 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 41.2 innings.

Top Performances

Hitter - When Bunker Hill 3B/1B Mickey Halifax took the field on April 19, he never imagined he would have the game of his life. In a 10-9 edging over Southie, Halifax went 5 for 5 with a double, two home runs, with four runs, and four RBI.

Pitcher - There is a unique tie for this month's top performance with a performance score of 90 between two pitchers. On April 22, Goodneighbor's Jared Porch threw a complete-game two-hitter, walking one and striking out eight in the Hancocks' 2-0 victory over Oberland. The next day, Diamond City's Heaven Fontenot tied that score, pitching a complete-game five-hitter with a season-high 13 strikeouts in the Swatters' 8-0 win over Southie.

NEBL Analysis

The first month of the NEBL season is done with only one division tied. Division leaders are the Manchester Granites in the Maine, Abernathy in the Vershire, Brookline and Sandwich in the Mass, and Providence in the Connri.

NEBL Players of the Month

PL Hitter - Marco Reader made his presence known as one of the best young stars in the Patriot League this past month.

The Lowell Sentry Bots left fielder shined through the month of April and has won the Batter of the Month award.

The 21-year-old hit .394 with 4 home runs, 15 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

TL Hitter - Snap, crackle and pop! In April, Ani Waalk snapped up the Yankee League Batter of the Month trophy by cracking 13 hits and popping 4 home runs.

For the month he hit a solid .289 with 12 RBIs and 8 runs scored. The Natick first baseman also picked up 8 walks to compile a .396 on-base percentage.

PL Pitcher - Crime Spree Ruiz was pure magic coming out of the Adamantium bullpen in April. For his outstanding performance, he picked up the Patriot League Pitcher of the Month award.

Ruiz posted a 1-0 mark and a 0.84 ERA in 9 relief appearances. In 10.2 innings, he allowed 10 hits, totaled 7 saves with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks.

YL Pitcher - Kent Rothschild dazzled opponents on his way to the Yankee League Pitcher of the Month award for April.

Posting a 3-1 record and a 2.00 ERA, the Wellesley Wanderers starter held opposing hitters to a .235 batting average while striking out 14 in 27 innings and giving up 8 walks.

MML Analysis

In the MML, the season is off to a good start with a few prospects who may work their way to the CBO by season's end. Leaders are Marblehead in the Wade Boggs Division, Lawrence in the Matt Murtagh Division, Castle and Hyde Park in the Ted Williams Division, and Mayoral Shelter in the Carl Yastrzemski Division.

MML Players of the Month

LL Hitter - Covenant Refractors fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in April.

Teague Hall put up a remarkable month at the age of 22 and has been named the Legends League Batter of the Month.

For the month, Hall hit .446 with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

SL Hitter - Builder Andria may be much younger than other hitters in the Stars League, but he performed like a seasoned veteran in April to win the Batter of the Month award.

The 22-year-old Brockton center fielder hit .375 with 4 home runs, 7 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

LL Pitcher - The elite pitcher this past month in the Legends League was Closecall Jones of the Covenant Refractors. He stood head and shoulders above the rest, finishing April with an extraordinary 2-0 record and a 0.79 ERA.

The Refractors star hurler made 4 starts and surrendered 24 hits in 34 innings. He struck out 20 and walked 8.

SL Pitcher - When Fern Ashcroft takes the mound, a Mayoral Shelter victory is usually the result. At least that's the way it was in April.

He excelled with a 3-0 mark and a 1.19 ERA in 3 starts, tossed 22.2 innings, fanned 8 and held opposing batters to a .179 average.

That's why the Tricentennials starter was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Stars League.

BMU Analysis

Teams have yet to separate themselves in the BMU. Only one division is tied, but it is a four-way affair. In the Cambridge, Mystic Pines, Forest Grove, Union Hope, and Walden Pond are all tied at 9-5. In the Dark Hollow Pond, Parsons Asylum is the leader, Charles View leads the Downtown Boston Division, and Scrap Palace is atop the Glowing Sea Division.

GBRL Analysis

There are no ties for the rookies. Division leaders are Brunswick in the Northeast, Nuka Express in the Northwest, Cabot House in the Southeast, and Waterbury in the Southwest.

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

1 May 2315

The May 1 Super Post, Part 2

CCBL Analysis

With just two weeks remaining in the 2315 college baseball season, there are still no teams in, while only three teams have been eliminated from postseason contention: WNEU, Quinnipiac, and Nichols College.

Conference leaders are:

BCAC - Commonwealth 33-14
MassCon - Curry College 31-16
NoComm - New Hampshire and SNHU 26-21
SoComm - Providence College 35-12
Atlantic Sound - Mass Maritime 31-16

Since conference winners get the top five seeds, here is how the current Sweet 16 looks:
1. Providence
2. Commonwealth
3. Curry
4. Mass Maritime
5. New Hampshire
6. Winthrop
7. Nuka
8. Endicott College
9. Cape Cod
10. Glowing Sea College
11. Boston College
12. Yale
13. Mass Bay
14. Brown
15. CIT
16. Revere College

CCBL Players of the Month

Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 20 Lenny Poertner has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Northeastern Huskies star can enjoy the numbers he put up in April, which have garnered him the nod as the Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .495 average with 11 home runs, 34 RBIs and 26 runs scored.

This season, Poertner is batting .497 with 91 hits, 17 home runs, 49 RBIs, .551 OBP and has scored 46 runs.

Pitcher - In April Yale starter, Arnold Welsh really put the strong arm on the other Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League teams and hauled in the Pitcher of the Month trophy. He did it with an impressive 5 wins and 1 loss.

In 7 starts and 51.1 innings of work, Welsh limited opposing batters to 49 base hits and a .250 batting average. He fanned 50, issued 15 walks and had a 1.75 ERA.

This year, Welsh has compiled a 6-4 record with a 3.01 ERA in 12 starts.

CYL Analysis

Just like the CCBL, the CYL season is down to the last two weeks. For 10-straight days, Commonwealth Youth League players will try to play their way into one of the 32 spots in the playoffs. Just like the CCBL, division winners are in and the top seeds. Here are the leaders of each division:

Franklin - Worcester
Emerson - Reading
Fuller - Concord
Revere - Boston Common
DuBois - Newburyport
Longfellow - Kittery

The top five wildcards in the NR are Lowell, Woburn, Covenant, Saugus, and Leominster.

Adams - Coventry
Alcott - Jamaica Plain
Morse - Taunton
Attucks - Truro
Hancock - Old Lyme
Bradberton - Northampton

The top five wildcards in the SR are GSP, Hope, Swansea, Freeplay, and West Quincy.

CYL Players of the Month

NR Hitter - Not known for his offensive prowess, Rukiya Simamba set the league afire in April and took home the North Region Batter of the Month award.

The Covenant second baseman posted a steady .382 batting average, 19 home runs, 42 RBIs and 33 runs.

This season, Simamba has hit 27 home runs and posted a .364 batting average.

SR Hitter - At only 15 years of age, Orie Kerlin could very well have many more months like this last one during his career.

That would be great news for fans of the Andrew Station Southies, as April was one to remember for the third baseman and he has captured the South Region Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .410 with 17 home runs, 41 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

In 38 games this season, Kerlin has compiled a .394 batting average with 56 hits and 23 home runs. He has also scored 49 times and knocked in 62 runs.

NR Pitcher - Rhubarb Coombs of the Gloucester Dog Trainers was on top of his game the entire month of April, capping it off with the North Region Pitcher of the Month honors.

He was outstanding in 7 starts with 5 wins and no losses, 55.2 IP, 74 strikeouts and a fine 1.46 ERA.

So far this season, Coombs has a record of 6-1 with 110 strikeouts and 37 walks in 85.2 innings and a 2.00 ERA.

SR Pitcher - Strange Neville Truitt left little doubt in the minds of South Region officials that he should be named April's Pitcher of the Month for his outstanding performance.

"I wasn't always confident at the start of a game," said Truitt. "Sometimes it's hard to get into the flow -- the calls aren't going your way or you're trying to spot your pitches too much. You just have to relax and use what you've been taught all your life -- get back to basics -- good mechanics, control, location, keep the ball down."

The 14-year-old tossed 61 innings of quality baseball -- going 6-0 with a 1.62 ERA and 72 strikeouts.

Looking at his season stats, Truitt has won 9 and lost 1, collecting 115 strikeouts and 22 walks in 95.1 innings with a 2.17 ERA.

Well then.

The day after posting this, my laptop finally went kaput, at least at the functional level. Among the slow downs, I think my graphics card died because OOTP and other games I tried instacrashed.

I went ahead and saved files to an external hard drive, but something may have been awry.

As of today, I have bought a PC, the first tower I have had in many years. As a constantly traveling person (and a person who lived on another continent for over a decade), I figured a gaming laptop was my best purchase. Well, they are way out of my price range, unless I want to play games only made before 2020.

So, here I am. I came to the immediate realization, though, that I had to purchase OOTP 26 at full price since OOTP 25 is not available for purchase. Since I bought it directly from OOTP, it is just not an option. Damn. 25 was the one to buy on Steam! Oh well.

Loaded it up and my league is loaded and converted from 25. Yay! However, it reverted back a week. Therefore, what I posted as the May 1, 2315, post never happened on my new iteration of the CBO. No problem, though. I will pretend it did.

I have no idea if I am going to get the basketball game back. I think I will go ahead and download it and see if I can use a new license or email Gary Gorski if I cannot. If not, I'll maybe try to log in to my old laptop again, let it creep through the Finals, report on that, and then kill the basketball league.

Anyway, I am now simming the CBO up until May 3 to write a report about the first month of the season.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

3 May 2315

CBO Analysis

The first month of the 2315 CBO season has been green, so let's feature the green teams this update. Salem has become the first team to hit 20 wins after a 15-game winning streak. The team to end it was The Slog, the favorites. thanks to Flirt Perez's no-hit effort. We'll get to that later in the article. In the organization, only 10 teams are above .500 with Lexington being the only other team with more than 17 wins. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Salem Witch Hats (147.4, o)
2) Lexington Synths (127.7, ++)
3) Vault 81 Dwellers (117.7, ++)
4) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (114.7, +)
5) University Point Deathclaws (113.7, o)
6) Nahant Celtics (111.7, --)
7) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (106.7, --)
8) Bunker Hill 75ers (98.8, ++)
9) Oberland T-51s (95.8, ++)
10) Goodneighbor Hancocks (95.0, ++)
11) Spectacle Island Reapers (93.8, o)
12) Roxbury Rad Sox (90.0, +)
13) Malden Grognaks (89.0, ++)
14) Quincy Gunners (89.0, --)
15) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (85.2, ++)
16) Atom Cats (85.0, --)
17) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (84.2, ++)
18) FHE Yao Guai (81.2, --)
19) Easy Town Assaultrons (80.2, --)
20) The Slog Ghouls (80.2, --)
21) Diamond City Swatters (80.1, +)
22) County Crossing Bloodbugs (73.1, --)
23) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (72.3, ++)
24) Concord Radstags (67.1, --)
25) Cambridge Coursers (66.3, -)
26) Egret Ninjas (62.3, --)
27) Southie Brews (57.3, o)
28) Starlight Killers (55.4, o)

Brotherhood League

We mentioned the Hats, but Nahant is at 16 wins and in complete control of 2nd place currently. Malden, The Slog, and Easy Town are all hovering around. 500. County Crossing and Norrdhagen Beach are at the bottom.

The Celtics were in the Sole Survivor Series in 2313, finished in 7th in the BL in 2314, and now they are a major challenger again in 2315. Nahant is tops in the NCA in runs scored (161) and 5th in runs allowed (120). On offense, 2314 2ns-overall pick, SS Evan Keel has been the talk. Scouts expected him to go #1 overall with the expectation that he would be a Day One CBO starter. Instead, not only is Keel a Day One starter, but is currently batting .338 with 8 home runs and 19 RBI. Not that exciting? Well, Keel was the Rookie of the Month AND NCA Best Hitter. Nahant may be in great shape and can attribute their immediate turnaround to drafting Keel. Sunshine Tidings may still get an all-time hitter in 1st-overall pick Fuzz Copman (currently with the Breakheart Banks Sugar Bombs of the BMU).

Institute League

Lexington having the second-best CBO record is partially due to a six-game winning streak and a 7-3 mark in their last 10, tying the Synths with the Party Boys, Goodneighbor, and Vault 81 for the CBO's second-best stretch behind the Witch Hats' 9-1 mark. Fort Hagen is just a game back, though, followed by Bunker Hill, Sunshine Tidings, Concord, Cambridge, and Starlight.

For the Chemists, 2315 has already shown extreme improvement. Now, we're imagining what that improvement would be with Keel as mentioned in the Nahant update. Instead, Sunshine Tidings is dependent on star C Red Jay Jones (.429/7/20) and LF Family Sam Partridge (.307/8/21) to give the offense a boost. On the mound, old pro Eugene Gym (1-4, 6.62) has perhaps hit his limit.

Minutemen League

University Point has a slight lead in what may be an interesting league race. After the Deathclaws are Spectacle Island, Goodneighbor, Quincy, Atom, Jamaica Plain, and Southie. The Brews hold the SCA's worst record at 9-17, just one game up on Starlight for the CBO's worst record.

Quincy will probably be in the race until the end, but they are having struggles currently, including a 4-6 mark in their last 10. The Gunners need to find their offense, currently 11th in runs scored (111) thanks to being near the bottom in every category. 1B Baywatch Fischler (.348/3/14) is the only decent hitter so far. Make Money (2-4, 6.23) has also struggled as the ace of the team.

Railroad League

Glowing Sea and Vault 81 are knotted for 1st place in the tightest league, top to bottom. Oberland is two back, Roxbury three, FHE four, Diamond City five, and Egret six.

The Radscorpions, in their sixth season, may be taking the next step. While they just missed out on their second playoff bid in 2314 after a 71-59 finish, Glowing Sea currently has its best winning percentage at .615. The Scorpions statistcially do not seem to be at the top of a league with the 7th-best runs scored (129) and the 4th-best runs allowed (115). Glowing Sea has several weapons on offense who should eventually lead the team to even more success. C Yvuh Jet (.325/6/23) and CF Enigma Montgomery (.322/4/22) currently lead the charge of a talented starting eight.

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

April 26 - It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Packs Ton Kling, the Lexington Synths 22-year-old center fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for North Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

He ripped 13 hits in 30 at-bats, compiling a .433 average with 6 home runs and 9 RBIs.

This season, Kling has posted a batting average of .286 with 24 hits in 84 at-bats, 8 home runs and 14 RBIs. He has also scored 16 runs, walked 2 times and compiled a .310 OBP.

Alex Bragman demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

The Diamond City shortstop wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .407 average (11-for-27) with 3 home runs and 9 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.

Bragman is batting .284 this year with 3 home runs, 11 RBIs and 9 runs scored. He has 23 hits in 81 at-bats.

May 3 - One of the league's most exciting young players, Campy Madrid of the Lexington Synths earned himself North Charles Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.

For the week the 21-year-old left fielder had a lofty .583 average (14-for-24), collecting 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 4 runs scored.

In 24 games this year, Madrid has posted a .406 average and put up these numbers: 2 home runs, 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored.

Brother Ray Robinson demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

The Goodneighbor left fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .538 average (14-for-26) with no home runs and 5 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.

Hitting .354 to date, Robinson has 2 home runs and 11 RBIs. He has played in 25 games.

CBO Noteworthy News

April 20 - More retirement news of an OG. After what he called a "long and rewarding" career in professional baseball, Donny Kowalski has announced he will retire.

The Bunker Hill 75ers left fielder said it wasn't an easy decision to make, but this season will be his last and he's now "content" with his choice to walk away at age 37.

Kowalski has a career .288 batting average and .366 on-base percentage. He has recorded 1742 hits with 267 doubles, 47 triples, 352 homers, 1080 RBIs and scored 1034 runs since coming into the league.

May 1 - It was a terrific day for Flirt Perez of the The Slog Ghouls at Tarberry Field Forever. The left-hander stood out with a fantastic 3-0 no-hitter against the Salem Witch Hats.

"I knew I had a no-no going in about the sixth inning when I noticed no one was talking to me anymore," he said, referring to the time-honored superstition of avoiding the pitcher so as not to jinx the no-hitter. "Don't let people fool you. Everybody on the field and in the ballpark knows what's happening. They just pretend they don't."

For the game, Perez totaled 5 walks and 7 strikeouts in a very strong outing.

"His mechanics were perfect, and I don't think he threw one bad pitch in the whole game," The Slog manager Nate Pugh said. "He was that good."

This season, Perez has worked 53.1 innings with 43 strikeouts en route to a 3-2 record and a 3.54 ERA.

Ooo the big move! Hope the new computer is nice! My old gaming laptop still runs reasonably well even though it's physically falling apart, but I'm afraid to see how expensive new ones are. A desktop would be nice too, but my setup isn't really made for it

I know it's hindsight but did you still have your key? You get two copies when you buy direct and you can always remove one off a no longer useable computer. Moving to 26 could be interesting though. Wonder what stars it creates or destroys. Go Radscorpions!

Thank you! I tried my best to get more proactive in making copies of saves. I am not sure what the problem with my last save was that I did not get up to date, but at least a save I made was only a week prior.

For the key, I actually thought about it later that I could have also saved the download file from OOTP 25. I have just been overwhelmed with a lot of things going on, so it slipped my mind. I do have the key, but could not access the OOTP 25 program since it is not available on the ootpdevelopments.com store. Duh! Well, I have OOTP 26 earlier (and more expensive) than I typically have it, but I will still get my money's worth.

For the basketball save, that one did not export properly. I will give it one more try from my laptop to external hard drive, but the export I tried to import to the new computer was a no-go. Right now, I am moving forward with the CBO and will revert back in time when I can find it for the CBA Finals.

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA

CYL Season Ends; Boston Common, Jamaica Plain as #1 Seeds

The dust has cleared from the regular season pennant chase and the clubs that survived are getting ready to do battle in the 2315 Commonwealth Youth League playoffs. Only the strong survive to play for the Youth Series championship. It's the playoffs -- a very special time to baseball fans everywhere -- and they start in just a few days.

"Baseball is a marathon," or so the saying goes. But once the Commonwealth Youth League playoffs start today, it's a sprint to the finish. One false move, one errant miscue, one pressure-packed flub will end your team's chances of winning the title. It could be over in a moment. On the other hand, one swing of the bat or a fastball blown by the last hitter could just as easily send your team parading down Main Street, hoisting a 24-carat gold-studded Youth Series trophy before an adoring crowd. The contending ballclubs are all poised and ready -- the playoffs begin today with several Regional Opening Round showdowns:

NR
#16 CIT Academy Yahoos vs #1 Boston Common Baby Bellies
#9 Littleton Beasts vs #8 Saugus Launchers
#14 Rockport Seafarers vs #3 Concord Iceboys
#13 Marlborough Minigunners vs #4 Newburyport Cubs
#12 Boston Harbor Fellows vs #5 Reading Rhinos
#11 Covenant Dandy Boys vs #6 Kittery Skippers
#10 Woburn Diners vs #7 Lowell Frags
#15 Diamond City Newsboys vs #2 Worcester Crows

SR
#16 Swansea Nuka Sox vs #1 Jamaica Plain Treasures
#9 Hope Firestarters vs #8 Freeplat Wicked Goods
#14 Kingstown Royals vs #3 Old Lyme Lake Monsters
#13 vs Chatham Lighthouse vs #4 Northampton Beaneaters
#12 Pawtucket Paw Sox vs #5 Taunton Giants
#11 Weymouth Locksmiths vs #6 Eastham Rads
#10 Collegetown Spirits vs #7 GSP Venom
#15 Brockton Claws vs #2 Coventry Quads

CYL Statistics

Looking at the statistical leaders, the Lexington Minuteboys' SS Boob Willis (.400/30/79) absolutely dominated the NR and CYL. Jamaica Plain's CF Xavier Miller (.368/15/34) was the SR's WAR leader with a 3.6.

Coventry's SP Gael Walker (11-0, 1.88, 4.2 WAR) may be the top overall pitcher in 2315, but there is a much greater spread in statistical leaders, including Old Lyme's Wing Kawolski with a CYL-best 6.3 WAR. In the NR, Diamond City's Sequester Grundelplith MD (9-3, 2.95, 5.2 WAR) was the WAR leader.

CCBL Season Ends; Providence, CWU Top Seeds

The 2315 Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League season has ended. Most clubs and most players are headed home for the year, but a few good teams will head to the playoffs, which are slated to start soon. They will get a chance to be the league's champion. All they have to do is win the College Series -- a not-so-easy task. To win it takes a combination of good pitching, good defense and timely hitting -- and occasionally some lucky bounces of the ball. Last season's champions, the Commonwealth University Terriers are the winners of the Boston Collegiate Athletic Conference and the #2 overall seed behind #1 Providence College, winners of the Southern Commonwealth Conference. Last season's runners-up, the Boston College Eagles, finished 30-30, tied for 9th in the BCAC and out of the playoffs. Cape Cod won the MassCon tiebreaker over Nuka University thanks to a 2-0 season record over the Mixologists. Acadia College won the NoComm and Mass Maritime took the Atlantic Sound Conference.

The regular season has ended and anxiety is starting to rise around the clubhouses still harboring championship aspirations.

The playoffs begin today, the final sprint to the finish line and the time when great players earn their fame, when average players get a shot at immortality, and when rookies look to make their name.

Some dread it and some relish it, but everyone who dreams of playing in Commonwealth Collegiate Baseball League wants to have a once-in-a-lifetime shot at championship glory. The 2315 Sweet 16 kicks off today with these exciting matchups:

#16 Brown Bears vs #1 Providence College Friars
#9 Yale Bulldogs vs #8 Greenfield College Greenies
#12 Endicott College Gulls vs #5 Acadia College Minks
#13 U Mass-Lowell River Hawks vs #4 Cape Cod University Sharks
#14 CIT Engineers vs #3 Mass Maritime Buccaneers
#11 Mass Bay University Beacons vs #6 Nuka University Mixologists
#10 Winthrop College Guardians vs #7 Curry College Colonels
#15 Northeastern Huskies vs #2 Commonwealth University Terriers.

CCBL Statistics

CF Derek Cureall of WInchester College was the CCBL leader in WAR with 5.7. Sacred Heart's Niven O'Donnell won the HR (26) and TB (188) titles, among other statistical categories.

On the mound, Assumption's SP Casan Evans was probably the top pitcher, leading the CCBL in ERA (1.95) and tied for CG (5) and shutouts (3). He also finished second in WAR (5.4) behind SP Ori Danoyan (5.7) of Greenfield College after a 9-4 season for the Greyhounds.

Yeah, it was a massive brain fart on my part! We still have CBO baseball, so I am happy

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, and CYL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

17 May 2315

CBO Analysis

We are 38 games into the 2315 season, and one team, Salem, is already near 30 victories at 29-9. Another team, Lexington, is not that far behind, while the rest of the CBO appears to be at the standard deviation. There are few surprises at the bottom of the standings, but there are a few surprises, like Roxbury being alone in 1st place in the Railroad League. We will break down each league, but first, here are the current team power rankings for the Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Salem Witch Hats (144.3, o)
2) Lexington Synths (136.0, o)
3) University Point Deathclaws (118.8, +)
4) Roxbury Rad Sox (116.9, +)
5) Atom Cats (109.2, +)
6) Glowing Sea Radscorpions (108.2, ++)
7) Bunker Hill 75ers (100.5, +)
8) Oberland T-51s (98.7, --)
9) Quincy Gunners (98.7, ++)
10) Malden Grognaks (95.0, ++)
11) Vault 81 Dwellers (93.5, --)
12) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (93.0, o)
13) Southie Brews (90.3, +)
14) Easy Town Assaultrons (89.3, ++)
15) Diamond City Swatters (84.3, o)
16) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (83.5, ++)
17) The Slog Ghouls (81.3, -)
18) County Crossing Bloodbugs (79.5, +)
19) Egret Ninjas (79.5, ++)
20) Spectacle Island Reapers (79.3, --)
21) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (79.0, --)
22) Cambridge Coursers (75.8, +)
23) Nahant Celtics (75.3, --)
24) Concord Radstags (72.8, --)
25) FHE Yao Guai (71.8, +)
26) Starlight Killers (55.9, +)
27) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (52.6, -)
28) Goodneighbor Hancocks (50.2, --)

Brotherhood League

The Witch Hats, which we will feature this week in our readers' choice of the 'S' teams with one stretch, is 10 games up on Malden. The rest of the BL is below .500, with a three-way tie for 3rd (Easy Town, Nahant, and The Slog), followed by County Crossing and Nordhagen Beach.

The Hats have been dominant so far, though the statistics do not fully reflect that dominance so far. Salem is 4th in runs scored (197) with their best category on offense being OBP (1st at .366). At the top of hitting for average are 2B Seemly Sam Tucker (.362/2/34), RF Thatch Heard (.340/4/21), and 1B Brian DeLong (.317/4/19). On the mound, the Witch Hats are dominant, leading in all of runs allowed (146), Starters ERA (3.50), and Bullpen ERA (3.55). The top three starters--Paul Stains (6-3, 3.39), Jaa Thirtysix (5-2, 3.31), and Chris Teddybear (7-2, 2.97)--have led that charge, while 4th-starter, Bry McBourbon (5-1, 4.31), may be the best end-of-rotation pitcher in the CBO. CL Corpulus Vinus (10 SV, 0.00) has been perfect.

Institute League

With an 8-2 mark in their last ten, tied for the CBO-best with Southie and Roxbury, the Synths have taken a commanding lead in the IL. Bunker Hill sits at six back as the only other team with a record above .500. Fort Hagen and Sunshine Tidings are both 19-19, followed by Cambridge, Concord, and Starlight as the CBO's current worst team despite their current three-game winning streak.

The Killers went from dangerous to pint-sized slashers in a short period of time. Just four seasons ago, the former Lady Killers had clinched a sixth-straight playoff appearance and their second IL title in three years. Today, Starlight is on pace for selecting SP Mike Searocker or whoever may be the 1st-overall pick in the 2315 Draft. For the Killers, they are 13th in runs scored (161) and 11th in runs allowed (194), meaning they are outscored nearly a run per game. Some standouts on offense have been 1B Hey Dentra Venski (.325/8/23), C Justin Lower (.300/4/17), and 2B King Hippo (.310/1/19). RF Henry Hampster (.279/7/27) is second on the team in homers and first in RBI. On the mound, the Starters' ERA (4.74) is 10th-best, though the efforts of third starter Sam Molina (1-5, 6.48) seem to be the main factor in that high ERA. CL Warwick Mathews (4 SV, 9.24) needs to be moved elsewhere pronto after a decent 31-save, 3.86 ERA 2314 season.

Minutemen League

Welcome back to the veteran squad, University Point. The Deathclaws currently hold a two-game edge over Atom, followed by Quincy, Sepctacle Island and Southie, Jamaica Plain, and a very cold Goodneighbor team on an eight-game losing streak.

At 8-2 in their last 10, the Brews suddenly look competitive. However, their statistical output so far indicates that they can expect to finish at or near the bottom at the close of the 2315 season. Southie is 12th in runs scored (170) and 8th in runs allowed (184). For hitters, RF Huge Hugh Testerman (.317/7/20) is the only player hitting above .300 and is tied with CF Glove Payton (.277/7/15) for the team lead in homers. The starters have been pretty good, ranked 4th in ERA (3.94). The player struggling the most may be ace Buzzcut McDonald (4-2, 4.48), though his career ERA of 4.21 in his fourth season and third as a starter may indicate he is not a staff ace.The bullpen has not been great, but CL Hutch Wellspring (7 SV, 2.91) has been decent.

Railroad League

As mentioned, the Rad Sox are now in 1st place thanks to their string of going 8-2 in their last 10. With four teams above .500--Sox, Glowing Sea, Vault 81, and Oberland--the RL is the toughest top to bottom team in the CBO. Diamond City, Egret, and FHE are all below .500, but the Yao Guai at 16-22 are the CBO's best 7th-place team.

Since no settlement in the RL begins with 'S,' we went the alliteration route in this week's update, focusing on the Diamond City Swatters. The Swatters appeared to be a playoff team, but their hitting has been atrocious. The Swatters are 14th in runs scored (158), only two runs more than the CBO's worst team, Cambridge (156). With just 26 team home runs, led by six each from 2B Alex Bragman (.264/6/23) and RF Magnum Peaeye (.235/6/16), Diamond City will need to find power somewhere to be competitive in 2315. Part of the wonder of what the Swatters will do comes from the trade earlier in the season for Beachboy Nut (5-1, 3.25) who has been dominant. The Swatters lead the SCA in runs allowed (154) and Starters ERA (3.64), showing that they are built to win. SP Macho Lopez (3-4, 3.64) and Heaven Fontenot (2-4, 3.26) have sub-4.00 ERAs but get little run support in their starts. In Fontenot's six decisions, the Swatters' highest run output was three runs.

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

May 10 - When it came to hitting the baseball, Seemly Sam Tucker was in a class by himself in the North Charles Association this past week. Nobody did it better.

The outstanding second baseman for Salem tagged opposing pitchers for a .538 average and was voted the Player of the Week Award. Included in his stats were 14 hits in 26 at-bats, 0 homers, 5 runs scored and 9 RBIs.

For the season, Tucker has hit .400 with 2 home runs and 32 RBIs. He has played in 31 games and scored 18 times.

Mia Thunder has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 24-year-old left fielder of the Spectacle Island Reapers had a hot bat in the South Charles Association over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors.

Thunder batted .524 with 11 hits in 21 at-bats, 2 home runs and 7 RBIs.

On the year, Thunder has hit .355 with 3 home runs, 15 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

May 17 - A battle-tested Hurr Lee Reyes declared war on opposing pitchers last week, attacking the ball like the well-schooled veteran he is. Today the 35-year-old Lexington right fielder collected the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

He wrapped up the week with a .480 average, 12 hits in 25 at-bats, 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and 9 runs scored.

Thus far this season, Reyes is hitting .352 with 10 home runs, 25 RBIs and 36 runs scored. He has 51 hits in 145 at-bats and has played in 37 games.

It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Rock Mobley, the Southie Brews 22-year-old left fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for South Charles Association Player of the Week honors.

He ripped 10 hits in 20 at-bats, compiling a .500 average with 3 home runs and 12 RBIs.

This season, Mobley is batting .281 with 4 home runs. His totals include 17 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

CBO Noteworthy News

May 9 - Nuka Express has begun dismantling parts of Nuka Express Field containing Nuka-Cola decorations. Those decorations that had been renovated from the Nuka Express Terminal are now being shipped via rail to Nuka-Town where expansion on the NWL's Orange Tourists' Fizztop Mountain Park at Nuka-Town USA. That stadium, now the closest landmark to the terminal, is currently the unofficial "7th park" at Nuka-World. So, why the expansion of the stadium? Well, we think we know, but the CBO has yet to officially announce anything. With a domed stadium being build in Far Harbor and now expansion of Fizztop Mountain Park, we know what announcement is coming. Can you guess?

May 17 - Taking a glance at top trades so far this season (CBO-ready players), there have been few:

March 25 - Fort Hagen sent C Sleve McDichael to Nahant for 3B Diamond Ball - Result: McDichael is batting .304/5/21 for the Celtics, contributing the to the 3rd-best scoring team in the NCA (200 runs). Ball was injured by schrapnel from a frag grenade and will miss the remainder of the 2315 season. Winner: Nahant.

April 8 - Nordhagen Beach sent veterans SP Beachboy Nut and SS Pipe Wallcrawler and a 2315 2nd-round pick to Diamond City for prospects SP Petie Pembroke, SS Lonesome Dove Coldfeet, RP Dwaine Crump, and RP Carlos Comet, and a 2315 2nd-round pick. As mentioned, Nut (5-0, 2.81 since joining the Swatters) has been masterful, while Wallcrawler (.282/1/7) has been serviceable. While the Boys' prospects, especially 11th-ranked prospect Pembroke may lead them somewhere, it had to be tough dishing away two respected veterans.

#1 Boston Common Sweeps #3 Old Lyme, Claims Youth Series Title

The Boston Common Baby Bellies rolled over the Old Lyme Lake Monsters 9-7 at The Common Youth Field to easily win the 2315 Youth Series crown.

Boston Common won in a walk and swept the series from the Lake Monsters 2-0. It was their 2nd championship title.

Winning manager Big Train Tabletopper praised his own club as well as the opposition, calling the Lake Monsters "a fine team."

"It wasn't as easy as it looked. We had to play good baseball to beat them," he said. "We always seemed to come up with the key hit at the right time and to make the plays on defense when we had to. That's how you win the Youth Series."

The Baby Bellies took first place in the North Region Paul Revere Division and rounded out the year with a 39-11 record.

CBO Analysis

Each team in the CBO has played around 51 games, meaning we are at about the 40% mark of the 2315 season. At this time, the CBO has four teams with 30 or more wins and just three with 30 or more losses. With the exception of Salem's .720 winning percentage, every other team with a winning record is under 10 games above .500. Let's look at the power rankings and then the current playoff order. Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) University Point Deathclaws (132.5, +)

25) County Crossing Bloodbugs (72.6, +)
26) Egret Ninjas (65.0, -)
27) Starlight Killers (63.5, +)
28) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (53.9, -)

NCA
1. Salem
2. Lexington
3. Bunker Hill
4. Easy Town
5. Sunshine Tidings
6. The Slog

SCA
1. University Point
2. Roxbury (Series lead over Vault 81, 3-0)
3. Atom
4. Vault 81
5. Diamond City
T6. Quincy and Oberland (Season series tied, 1-1)

Brotherhood League

As mentioned, the Witch Hats are the CBO's top team. Only Easy Town is another BL team with a winning record. The Slog, Malden, Nahant, and County Crossing make up teams that can still be in the playoff hunt, while Nordhagen Beach currently holds the CBO's worst record at 17-34.

The Assaultrons have not made the playoffs since 2307 when they won their first, and only, BL crown. Since then, the Trons have dropped off considerably, missing the playoffs each of the past seven seasons. This season, all indicators put them as a team finishing around .500, but they may be just what they need to do. Statistically, Easy Town is in the middle of the pack, currently 8th in runs scored (239) and 3rd in runs allowed (240) despite being 7th in both Starters ERA (4.47) and Bullpen ERA (4.60). Part of that reason is being ranked 10th in Defensive Efficiency (.669). On offense, C Bill Barnes (.324/11/31) has been a great power hitter, while CF Eden Babz (.323/7/32/20 SB) seems to be the team MVP. Performances on the mound have not been spectacular, but the coaching staff has been pleased with SP Tarzan Rogers (6-2. 3.61), CL Tut Cadillac (11 SV, 3.81), and RP Harp Kettle (2-0, 1.53).

Institute League

Lexington and Bunker Hill make the only 1-2 combo of 30-win teams in a single CBO league. Sunshine Tidings and Concord have both been hot of late, propelling them into 3rd and 4th, respectively. A cold Fort Hagen is 5th, followed by Cambridge and the CBO's only other team besides the Boys with fewer than 20 wins, Starlight.

The Radstags slipped into the playoffs last season as the 6th seed, their first appearance since 2305, and hope to return in 2315. While the team has had its struggles, Concord is probably in the Top 6 of the NCA in talent. This season, the Stags are 6th in runs scored (250) and 5th in runs allowed (245). On offense, LF Jannar Arbor (.278/9/41) seems to control the power attack, while the top of the lineup--CF Kai Devlin (.356/2/22/16 SB) and SS Paper Mills (.320/6/26)--consistently get on base. For pitching, ace Leyden Aigg (6-3, 3.36) has been doing his job with SP Mel Gorgeous (7-1, 3.34) also off to a great start. The bullpen has not been great, holding the 12th-ranked ERA (5.19). RP Bobby Carvajal (3-1, 2.87) has been the top option so far.

Minutemen League

With a 35-16 record, University Point is not only the SCA's only 30+ win team but also six games better than the next best team in the association, fellow ML rival Atom. Quincy is the last of the .500+ teams, with all of Spectacle Island, Southie, Jamaica Plain, and Goodneighbor just a couple of hot weeks away from being there.

At 22-29, the Hancocks are the CBO's top 7th-place team. Goodneighbor may actually be a decently good team, but they are not getting the right bounces so far. On offense, the Hancocks are 7th in runs scored (246) but 1st in Batting Avg (.290). Part of that low-scoring output is also that they are tied for 12th in homers (41). The entire starting eight appear to be decent, with SS Gav Gidree (.365/4/16) leading the team in hitting and back from injury that kept him out three weeks. CF Jay Gabby (.339/8/25) is the homers leader. On the mound, both top two starters Jared Porch (5-4, 3.16) and Pollox Troye (6-4, 3.53) have helped the cause. In the bullpen, Sticky Hill (2 SV, 2.16) has taken over closer duties after Midnight Flowers (7 SV, 8.27) below 8 of his 15 save opportunities.

Railroad League

With Roxbury on a three-game losing streak and Vault 81 on a three-game winning streak, we have a lone tie atop a league in the CBO. Since the Sox swept the Dwellers on May 10-12, they are currently the RL leaders. Within three games behind, all of Diamond City, Oberland, and Glowing Sea could see themselves move up at any time. Both FHE and Egret are down but not officially out.

For the Rad Sox, despite their losing streak, there are thoughts they can be heavy contenders again like they were from 2302-2312 when they made nine playoff appearances and won three Sole Survivor Series titles with two runner-up finishes. By their patterns, that means another championship in 2316. For this season, the Sox are certainly showing improvement, even if they do not ultimately take the RL crown. They have four players in the middle that look to be their biggest power hitters from 3rd through 6th: SS Honker Trinkl (.365/11/23), RF Joey Bell (.300/14/43), 3B Rodney Caribou (.277/9/28), and C Azzada Lylvieve (.229/7/27). While pitching could be better, Roxbury is 5th in runs allowed (238) with the 4th-best Starters ERA (4.18). They are led by ace Ma'Khail Redstick (5-1, 2.20) with bullpen help from CL Hulk Martin (15 SV, 3.05) and Neeshagh Raggett (2-3, 3.10).

CBO Standings

CBO Players of the Week

May 24 - Concord fans have something to crow about today as Concord left fielder Jannar Arbor nabbed the North Charles Association Player of the Week Award for his performance over the last seven days.

"I know there are times when it's hard to lay off pitches. Everyone goes through stretches when he's too eager to put the ball in play. You know, though, I feel like this past week I was able to get in the right frame of mind and just let things come naturally," said Arbor.

He posted a .478 average (11-for-23) this past week with 3 home runs, 10 RBIs, and 8 runs scored.

This year, Arbor has hit at a .299 clip with 49 hits, 8 home runs, 36 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

Barker Cocoa had a week for the ages as he romped to the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award. The happy-go-lucky 36-year-old still plays ball like a kid, mashing and slashing as he goes.

The University Point Deathclaws first baseman hit .478 last week as he chalked up 11 hits in 23 at-bats, 3 home runs, 7 RBIs and 6 runs scored.

Currently Cocoa has 13 home runs and a .345 batting average.

May 31 - All week long Zod Gaycey was the talk of the North Charles Association... his name and face were everywhere. So it was no surprise to anyone when he was chosen the North Charles Association's Player of the Week for his exceptional performance.

Gaycey put up a solid set of stats, compiling a .429 average (12-for-28) and contributing 3 home runs and 7 RBIs to claim the honor.

Gaycey is hitting .320 in 2315 with 29 RBIs and 9 home runs.

Sheedy Smith demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award.

The Jamaica Plain first baseman wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .556 average (15-for-27) with 2 home runs and 6 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.

Currently Smith is batting .368 with 10 home runs and 40 RBIs.

CBO Noteworthy News

May 18 - It was a great day for Isaiah Swindler today at Tarberry Field Forever -- he picked up victory number 150 to join the great pitchers of the past in the exclusive 150 Club. The The Slog ace stopped the Starlight Killers 9-1, yielding 6 hits and recording 7 strikeouts and 1 walk in his milestone game.

"150 wins puts you in some good company," Swindler told reporters. "I'm honored to be there."

Swindler has fashioned a 150-149 won-lost record in his career with a 4.34 ERA.

May 28 - Today at The Wharf at Nahant, Oberland T-51s second baseman Odd Todd Walker accomplished a true baseball rarity, knocking a single, double, triple and a home run to hit for the cycle and lead the T-51s to a win, 14-4, over the Nahant Celtics.

In a standout performance, Walker laced 6 hits in 6 at-bats and had 9 runs batted in.

"I felt good before the game, I felt good during it, and I feel great now," Walker told reporters.

Odd Todd Walker doubled in the 1st, hit a two-run triple in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off Alley Cat Presh in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Roy Lach in the 5th, hit a two-run single in the 6th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.

Walker is currently batting .305 with 6 home runs and 27 RBIs.

May 28 - Digger Vadim entered the record books today as he collected win number 200 at Cambridge Polymer Field.

"Wow! This is a select group of pitchers. I am honored and thrilled to be in it," Vadim said after the game. "I never dreamed of winning this many games."

In his historic outing he went 8 innings and gave up 1 run on 9 hits. Vadim also had 4 strikeouts and 2 walks as his University Point Deathclaws topped the Cambridge Coursers 3-1.

Lifetime Vadim has a won-lost record of 200 victories and 124 losses with 2637 strikeouts in 3210 innings and a 3.63 ERA.

BNN Report

News from the CBO, Minors, CCBL, CYL, and CBA

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

1 June 2315

The June 1 Super Post

CBO Top Performances

We already reported about it yesterday in the Noteworthy News, but Oberland's Odd Todd Walker had a performance on May 28 that may already have clinched the season's top spot. With a game score of 135, Walker catapulted over Barker Cocoa's performance last month by 27(!) points. In a 14-4 victory at Nahant, Walker was 6 for 6 with two doubles, a triple, and two home runs, accounting for an amazing 16 total bases in hitting for the cycle. Walker added two runs and drove in nine RBI. His six hits and nine RBI each tied SCA records. The six hits was matched by three other people, with the last being Jamaica Plain's Sheedy Smith almost exactly a year before. The nine RBI was reached six other times, with Smith also being the last to achieve that feat. Fort Hagen's Andrew Nuka set the record of 11 in 2304.

It may not be as impressive as the hitting performance, but Vault 81's Scruffy Taguchi had May's top pitching performance with a 92 score. On May 30, Taguchi pitched a complete-game four-hitter, striking out a season-tying high 13 batters in the Dwellers' 6-0 win at Starlight. Taguchi is 10th all-time with 187 victories after that dominating performance, tying Nervous Patron's April performance for the top performance this season.

CBO Players of the Month

NCA Hitter - To Hurr Lee Reyes, age is just a number.

He may be 35 years old, but the Lexington Synths right fielder proved in May that he's still got what it takes to compete at an elite level.

With a .398 average, 9 home runs, 23 RBIs, and 32 runs scored, Reyes had all the numbers that counted and has won the North Charles Association Batter of the Month award.

So far this season, Reyes has gotten 69 hits in 192 at-bats for a .359 batting average with 15 home runs. His stats include 37 RBIs and 50 runs scored. He has played in 51 games.

SCA Hitter - When Tawfiq Kibowen stepped up to the plate in May he did it with confidence, and today he was honored with the South Charles Association Batter of the Month award.

The young Atom catcher posted a .337 batting average with 10 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 26 runs. Kibowen also worked pitchers for 11 walks to post a .415 on-base percentage.

In 42 games Kibowen is hitting .346 this season with 54 hits, 20 home runs, 50 RBIs, 20 walks, .420 OBP and has scored 41 runs.

NCA Pitcher - There was little doubt around the North Charles Association that Paul Stains would be awarded Pitcher of the Month honors for May. Today, they made it official, naming the 26-year-old Salem Witch Hats starter the latest honoree.

He thoroughly dominated the hitters who stood in against him, holding them to a .205 batting average while fashioning a 2.55 ERA in 7 starts. His record for the month was 5-2 in 60 innings of work.

His record for the year is 8-4 in 12 starts and Stains has a 3.14 ERA.

SCA Pitcher - Doug Creep of Atom had an excellent May with a 5-1 record and was selected as the Pitcher of the Month in the South Charles Association.

He finished the month with a 2.31 ERA while piling up 42 strikeouts in 58.1 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .234 batting average.

In 13 starts this season, Creep has recorded 8 wins and absorbed 3 losses. He has pitched 100 innings, allowed 94 hits, struck out 81 and has a 3.51 ERA.

NCA Rookie - Waterbug Grant's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Nordhagen Beach left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In May he was voted the Rookie of the Month.

During the month he hit .268 with 4 doubles, no triples and 9 home runs. Grant also scored 18 times and drove in 19 runs.

For the season, Grant is batting .270 with 38 hits and 10 home runs. He has scored 24 times and batted in 25.

SCA Rookie - University Point's Pop Dylan collected 28 hits to snare the South Charles Association Rookie of the Month for May.

He batted .311 with 6 home runs, 24 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

The 21-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

In 43 games this season, Dylan has compiled a .301 batting average with 41 hits and 8 home runs. He has also scored 23 times and knocked in 35 runs.

NEBL Analysis

The NEBL is 46 games into the 2315 season, and there has been a lot of buzz on a recent increase in overall talent at this level. Part of the criticism was that it was overloaded with former CBO players no longer talented enough for the Big League squad. Now, an eruption of younger talent is making the NEBL the place to play. Current division leaders are the Manchester Granites, Abernathy Adamantium, a tie between the Braintree Robobrains and Sandwich Bay Snakes, and a three-way tie among the Providence Warlocks, Wellesley Wanderers, and Worcester Cannons.

NEBL Players of the Month

PL Hitter - In May, Ryoo Ree was the toughest out in the Patriot League and that is the prime reason he was voted the Batter of the Month.

The Greenfield shortstop rapped out 39 hits in 90 at-bats for a .433 batting average, hit 3 home runs, drove in 17 runs and scored 24 times.

Hitting .385 to date, Ree has 4 home runs and 20 RBIs. He has played in 33 games.

YL Hitter - Worcester Cannons fans believe they've got a talented young star in Barbarus Bailey.

He did nothing to dissuade that notion in May, as he hit .412 with 6 home runs, 20 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

The end result was the third baseman being named the Yankee League Batter of the Month.

In 41 games this season, Bailey is batting .367 with 54 hits and 10 home runs. He has scored 25 runs and driven in 34.

PL Pitcher - An outstanding 5-0 record in May earned Cohort Williams the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Patriot League. When his name was penciled in to start on the Greenfield lineup card, it meant trouble for opposing teams.

In 38 innings of work, Williams limited opposing batters to 29 base hits and a .221 batting average. He notched 24 strikeouts, issued 9 walks and had a 2.37 ERA.

This season, Williams has crafted a 7-2 mark with a 2.54 ERA in 60.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .236 against him and he has 41 strikeouts.

YL Pitcher - When Wicked Good O'Malley takes the mound, a Worcester victory is usually the result. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and a 1.05 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 42.2 innings, fanned 22 and held opposing batters to a .197 average.

That's why the Cannons starter was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Yankee League.

This season, O'Malley has worked 61.2 innings with 34 strikeouts en route to a 5-1 record and a 1.17 ERA.

MML Analysis

There is a ton of talent also in the Massachusetts Minor League, with a lot of players looking to make the jump from the AA level to the CBO. Division leaders are the Ipswich Hitters, Sanctuary Hills Zetans, Castle Strength, and Mayoral Shelter Tricentennials.

MML Players of the Month

BMU Analysis

The oldest minor league in the CBO and once split into four separate leagues like the original CBO was, the Boston Minor Union is now for the "old" rookies as the A affiliate. This season, division leaders of the traditional Dark Hollow Pond, Cambridge, Downtown Boston, and Glowing Sea division are the Parsons Asylum Greasers, Union Hope Lifegivers, Pleasant Lake Patriots, and Westing Estate Alphas.

GBRL Analysis

And now for the youngins. With no player in the league over the age of 21, the Greater Boston Rookie League has been the place for the true rookies of the CBO. Current leaders of divisions are the Croup Manor Leprechauns, a tie between the Beantown Brewers and Nuka Express Chrono Cowboys, the Pioneer Park Hackers, and the Waterbury Cola Kings.

GBRL Players of the Month

NL Hitter - At only 21 years of age, Bizzy Van Buizen could very well have many more months like this last one during his career.

That would be great news for fans of the Switchboard Gun Fu, as May was one to remember for the first baseman and he has captured the North League Batter of the Month award.

On the month he hit .486 with 13 home runs, 30 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

This year, Van Buizen has hit at a .486 clip with 36 hits, 13 home runs, 30 RBIs and 24 runs scored.

SL Hitter - It's perhaps an award he'll win many more times through his career, as at age 19 Phineas Barnum has a lot of baseball ahead of him.

But for now the young Norwalk Pickpockets star can enjoy the numbers he put up in May, which have garnered him the nod as the South League Batter of the Month.

His breakout month featured a .338 average with 13 home runs, 25 RBIs and 30 runs scored.

This season, Barnum is hitting .337 with 35 hits, 16 home runs, 33 RBIs, scored 37 runs and played in 32 games.
