Would You Give This Player a Contract Extension at His Asking Price?

Roc Riggio is coming off an MVP season in which he also fractured his ankle in September and is still recovering (expected) in December. I'm concerned if the injury will impact his ability going forward. He has 3 more seasons of arbitration eligibility. Buying out his remaining arbitration years coming off an MVP season may not be wise.

Should I wait to see how things go regarding injury recovery possibly leading to lower ratings?

He's looking for a contract that albeit long term greatly exceeds the other top players in the game and could become an albatross contract.

What percentage of his asking price is a good counter offer without making the player angry?

He's a great hitter but really is only suited to be a DH.

I appreciate any insight of how others deal with this type of situation.
