Can a team's ID code be changed manually?
The 2025 Miami Marlins have a team ID code of 15. The Los Angeles Dodgers have a team ID code of 11. I created a new league, and Miami is showing ahead of Los Angeles in the standings before I play any games.
Can I change the team ID code manually, so they show in the right order? Not sure if this will have any effect when I generate a schedule. |

Good question. The actual ID number cannot be changed manually. There is a work around to give your teams the desired ID number, but it only works in certain conditions and can really screw things up if you do it wrong.. I will say I have noticed that for multiple versions of the game, the Marlins will appear on the trade block between the Tigers and Astros because the game still thinks they're called "Florida" after all these years.

This is all just lazy coding. Relying on ID to order something in game indicates the developer didn't bother trying to think of how a user would logically expect the output to be ordered.
In the preseason standings with no games played, I'm not sure I care very much, but in a team listing like trade blocks it's irritating.

When starting a fictional league I change the team names to fit the display order I want before the draft. But if you're starting a non-random historical or modern league I doubt you could do that as they'd probably already have players in those organizations.

Minor annoyance so I don't worry about it, but if it was ever possible to have IDs always be in alphabetical order and not mess up history too, I'd be all for it! |
