The St. Louis Cardinals have announced second baseman Boston Baro has agreed to a six-year contract worth $88.7 million.
Acquired in a trade with the New York Mets during the 2026 season.
Baro broke into the starting lineup a year ago and this year was the starting second baseman for the National League in the All-Star game.
In 101 games this season, the 23-year-old has hit .288 with 11 home runs, 49 RBIs and 52 runs scored.
For his career, in 191 games/173 starts Baro has hit .281 with 17 home runs, 71 RBIs and 107 runs scored.

Looking to lock up their best players, the St. Louis Cardinals have announced the signing of outfielder Lawrence Butler to a five-year extension.
The Cardinals signed All-Star second baseman Boston Baro to a six-year extension earlier in the week.
Butler, 28, will be paid $23.2 million per season from 2029 through 2033.
The 2033 season includes a team buyout.
Acquired from the Athletics in a mid-season trade in 2025.
Butler has hit .274 with 91 home runs, 288 RBIs and 260 runs scored in 442 games/427 games since joining the Cardinals.
This season, Butler has played in 98 games/96 starts and has hit .272 with 18 home runs, 61 RBIs and 53 runs scored.
Butler is a three-time All-Star, including in 2026 and 2027 while playing for St. Louis.

The St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to a two-year contract extension with right-handed relief pitcher Joe Jimenez worth $5.6 million.
The second season includes a team option.
In his first season with the Cardinals, the 33-year-old Jimenez has pitched in 39 games posting no decision but a pair of saves along with a 2.76 ERA.
Jimenez reached the majors in 2017 with Detroit, where he played from 2017 until 2022.
Since then, he has played for Atlanta (2023-26), Cleveland (2027) and the New York Mets (2027).
He has pitched in 654 games, all in relief, going 32-33 with 40 saves and a 3.84 ERA.
