Bonehead or lazy bones? Judgment in that regard would affect his fate.

I don't think it matters. I'm not going to call him out for the initial reaction. I want him mad at the pop up. But he's gotta come out of that quickly and head to the base. He hung around then walked to the dugout. Unacceptable.

Oh, sure, there's still a penalty. It's just that if I thought it was just a momentary, and quite unusual, brain fart, it would be less severe.

Some of Missouri is not taking the Cardinals' mediocrity well, and some of Missouri is not taking the fans not taking it well well

(Translation: People seem embarrassed that there are a large amount of empty seats at Cardinals games of late.)

I saw that. I'm sure franchises like the Marlins & A's wish they had such problems.

Personally, I think that's the way fans should be. Give them a product worthy of their attendance or watch the revenues drop.

Agree. Otherwise, it's a ticket for, and an excuse for, perpetual mediocrity and inept management. (See: NY professional sports other than baseball.)

Are the 2009 Stinkees still the last NY team to win *anything*?

I agree. For a regular family a pro sporting event is very expensive. The entertainment value should be worth the financial commitment. I’m not accusing the Cardinals of this but there are teams out there that are actively tanking or at least not trying their best to field a good product. If more people react by not supporting those teams maybe it goes away. Of course, that’s more of a pipe dream because the corporations sustain the model with luxury seat season long purchases. Teams aren’t crying over the regular family of 4 not going to their customary handful of games in a year.

Two years after this happened, Taylor Ward does this.

No.

Super Bowl XLVI, played on February 5, 2012

"The Mario Manningham Game" came four seasons after "The David Tyree Game", but is its own special chapter in my favorite book, Eat **** and Die, Belicheater!

Thanks again, Eli!

(No, Eli does not get a second sexual favor from me for this. [Not that he's ever claimed the first.]. One to a customer, pal. But I still appreciate the sequel.)

So when they pull the "let's make the ump come to the mound and break us up, whereupon we will bust his chops" routine, they are out of line and somebody should be ejected. For the chop-busting over balls and strikes, not the trip to the mound.

Now, on the swing and miss / foul ball play, the runner on 2B sticks his head exactly between the camera and where the pitch was thrown, so you cannot tell which one it was. It could have been a foul ball or it could have glanced off the catcher's mitt. The umpire had a clear view of it, though, and he ruled swing and miss, wild pitch or passed ball. Runner advances.

Next, the umpire calls for additional baseballs (and does not get them). The play is on, though, and both pitcher and catcher should know that. They have the ball, and they took too long. Pitch clock violation. The umpire did not hold them up in any way.

So, if you view the replay of the ballboy coming out with the requested balls (around 3:30), watch as he slams them into the umpire's outstretched mask. Also notice that, from this angle, he appears to say something short and pithy, such as "a**hole", I imagine.

Sorry, but I side with the umpire in this case. I don't know what Jomboy was doing with the slo-mo replay at the end, but I don't think it was complimentary. The tone of the video seems to be mocking, but I think the guy was just trying to do his job and the Bandits and their ballboy were bozos.
