No, I just have manners.

(Unlike little Lincoln, my dad raised me right.)

Also, I tend to stick up for underdogs in situations such as this, I admit.

I somewhat agree with Amazin here in that to me, none of these adults look good. The dude running and snatching it out from under a woman reaching for it looks like a jackass. The woman acting like she did in front of the little boy holding the ball looks like a jackass.

He didn't snatch it from under her. The ball landed in the row in front of her after 1)she cringed to avoid the thing & 2) hitting the guy standing next to her. Then after she got possession of a ball she had zero right to, she got into the face of the fans who called her out.
She is rightfully being mocked and I cheer everyone of the public's efforts as long as it doesn't become personal harassment. But I applaud the dad. Because he taught his kid just because you have a right, doesn't mean you have to exercise it. Better to keep the peace then fight over something you can buy for $5.

Right, she was a jackass. She was also going for the ball. No one looks good. She looks worse.

I watched the video again, that guy ran a ways and grabbed the ball from others who were reaching for it. That dude isn't great here either, regardless of how horrible she may look.

This the 1st time U guys have watched a game? That happens all the time. Whoever gains possession of the ball, owns the ball. Did u notice the guys in the Hurts jersey? He was one of the guys going for the ball too and he fussed at the lady for what she did. He's the guy she got out of her seat to yell in his face. He had no problem with what the dad did.

Once more, she never touched the ball. She never touched the ball. She never touched the ball. She never touched the ball. She never touched the ball.

Just for giggles, what do you think should have happened? Who had the "right" to the ball?

I long for the days where they had to throw the ball back to one of the two umpires so play could continue. (angrily knocks floor with his wooden cane)

As far as I know there is no law that says if you are reaching for a ball it is yours.

There's no "law" involved, period. The idea that there's some unwritten rule you have to have an obnoxious scrum is IMO silly. If the ball lands in your area, whoever picks it up first is entitled to it, but scrambling like a jackal from half a section away is just poor form, as the English might say.

If she HAD gotten her hands on the ball (and I still don't see evidence she didn't) would he have been "justified" in ripping it from her, just because she hadn't "completed the catch" by raising the ball aloft as one person claimed is proper? It's one thing to go get a ball that's headed into an empty section. It's another thing to take the ball away from the people it was hit to because you fought like a cheap street thug. "Sure, it was hit right to your feet, but you didn't drop your phone and I bend faster than you! Suck it, whore!!"" Grow up. And just because he didn't actually elbow the others out of the way doesn't mean he wouldn't have.

And I'd have given the booing jerks the finger, too

After reviewing the video, the ball is actually hit to Seat #3, where the large black guy with the glasses and the beard is sitting. He and the lady in seat #2 both bend over to pick it up. (I assume they're together, since there are several empty seats to the right of him and why would two people attending the game by themselves be seated next to each other?). Daddy Dickhead zooms over, snatches the ball and smirks his way back to his stupid kid, who is in Seat #16. Which means the guy is in #15. Which means he ran down 12 seats to take the ball away from the couple it was hit to, and spoil their evening. Ass-wad.

Oh, and it wasn't the kid's birthday, after all. It was his "birthday week". Whatever. Are you gonna do the same thing next week and claim it's okay because it's Lincoln's "birthday month"?

Two middle-aged people, having a nice night at the park, have the good fortune to have a souvenir sent their way, and some entitled prick ("I'm doing it for MY BOY, so that makes me right!") scrambles in front of them and steals their ball. (They bought the seats, they have a right not be intruded on without permission. That's just basic courtesy.) The guy probably didn't want to make a scene, but his girl/wife/pal/whatever didn't think Jerk Dad should get away with that. And so she stood up for her friend. Good for her.

If it's your standard ball sure. If it's a million dollar ball that's something different.

Well, unless Harrison Bader has a late-career surge that puts Jose Bautista and his Quality Canadian Steroids to shame, I think we can safely say that won't be an issue.

(I wonder if I should buy that Johnny Ray ball? It's not as if I have a 1980s Mets souvenir…)

And where is it written that no one can run to get a loose ball? If the ball lands in a section where there are no fans, no fans from other sections can run to go get it? Again, you people act like you've never seen a baseball game before. It is well known by, I thought, every baseball fan that you don't take the ball from kids and it is, within reason, every adult for himself. Jumping on this dad is, honestly, one of the more ludicrous positions I have read on this forum. And we have Pete Rose fans here!

The little boy. I just don't see her as the only jackass in the situation, just the biggest.

And how, please tell, was the dad a jack@$$? What law did he break? Did he disobey a Miami ordinance? Did he go a foul of the MLB rules of purchase? Did he disregard the Constitution? Were clearly stated rules of conduct @ the Marlins ballpark violated? Did he not see when the pitcher pointed to her & say she should catch it? Did she yell "Dibs!"? Did he forget to yell "Dibs!"? Did he fail to apologize for hitting the net? Was he wearing white after Labor Day?

In the name of Calvinball, what egregious act did this dad do for you to call it a jack@$$ move?

I think unless someone catches a ball hit into the stands in the air, the rights to all balls should be determined by the use of instant replay. Prior to entering the stadium for a game, all fans should have to perform feats of strength much like we all do on Festivus. The weak and frail could then be given special shirts to wear moving them up the entitlement list for all balls hit into the stands. Why not give each person entering a section a survey that asks them to list in detail all the disappointments they've suffered during their lifetime, then much like how American Idol picks their winners the fans with the best hard luck stories could be awarded any balls not caught in the air.

I have seen a ton of ball scrums at various parks, some right next to me with adults pushing and jumping in front of each other. I guess that I always just look at them all with disdain. I guess it's just a 'me' thing.

Just curious, have any of you ever caught/picked up a foul ball/home run at a game before. I attended my first big league game way back in 1972 at Tiger Stadium. Been to lots of games between then and now. I've never even came close to getting a ball. The only ball I ever left a game with, was one I found while leaving a Shreveport Captains minor league game years ago. Found it in the parking lot on the way to my car resting against someone's car tire. I still have it. I did catch a few hockey pucks while attending Saginaw Gears hockey games when I was in junior high/high school.

Foul ball off Bobby Higginson at Fenway - almost landed in my lap.

Other than that, had Jose Urena throw two balls to my son during warm ups in left field, also at Fenway. We gave one to a group of high school kids next to us.

Lots have landed near me - but that's it in terms of what we've taken home.
