Florida Complex League - Glove Wizards
Not to be outdone, the Florida Complex League presented the list of Glove Wizard recipients. The Red Sox had one prospect named, with 19-year old Dylan Schlaegel putting together a fine season both in the field (368 2/3 IP, 56 PO on 56 TC, 4.2 ZR, 3.3 ARM, 1.217 EFF) and at the plate (.316/.440/.581 in 191 plate appearances).

On a day where the team had just 4 hits and the bullpen was shaky, it was great to pick up the win. Overall, the Boston Red Sox (67-56) topped the hometown Baltimore Orioles (68-56) by a 5 to 3 score.
Logan Gilbert (9-11) picked up his 2nd win with the team, as he allowed just 2 earned runs on 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6 in 8 innings of play; Game Score 66. Closer Liam Hendricks (SV 26) picked up the save but not before he introduced some uncertainty by permitting 1 earned run on 2 hits. At the plate, Boston was led by Marcelo Mayer (2 for 3, Double, Homerun, 3 Runs, 3 RBI, Hit-by-Pitch) and Masataka Yoshida (2 for 4, Double, RBI). Baltimore got a decent outing from starter Grayson Rodriguez (10-9) but it was not enough as he was tagged with the loss after permitting 4 earned runs on 3 hits, 4 walks, and a hit batsman while striking out 5 in 7 innings of work; Game Score 56. Veteran closer Craig Kimbrel served up a late-inning homerun for a linescore of 1 earned run on 1 hit in 2 innings. At the plate, Anthony Santander (2 for 4, Homerun, Run, 2 RBI), Gunner Henderson (1 for 4, Homerun, Run, RBI), and Jackson Holliday (2 for 3, Walk) performed well. Player of the Game: Marcelo Mayer (Season: #2) AL East Standings: 3rd Place, 2 1/2 Games Behind

Florida Complex League - Reliever of the Year
Michael Knorr may not be a household name, even for fans of the Houston Astros, but the prospect closer had a tremendous season pitching. In earning Florida Complex League Reliever of the Year award, Knorr garnered 9 1st place votes for 66 total points to barely outdistance Kade Bragg who had 7 1st place votes for a total of 62 points.

What a missed opportunity for Boston to make up ground in the Wild Card race. In the loss, the Red Sox (67-57) fell by a 5 to 4 score to the Baltimore Orioles (69-56).
Baltimore starter Cade Povich did not record a decision, as he allowed 4 earned runs on 6 hits, 3 walks, and 1 hit batsman while striking out 7 in 6 innings of play; Game Score 48. Tyler Wells (3-5) earned the victory for his 2 scoreless innings in which he allowed just 1 walk while striking out 2. Closer Felix Bautista (SV 24) had a perfect 9th inning after striking out the 3 batters he faced. At the plate, Gunner Henderson (2 for 2, Homerun, 3 Runs, RBI, 2 Walks, Stolen Base), Austin Hays (1 for 3, Homerun, Run, RBI), and Ryan O'Hearn (1 for 4, Double, 2 RBI) had an excellent day. Kutter Crawford was given the start but could not record a decision, as he permitted 4 earned runs on 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out 4 in 7 innings of work; Game Score 54. Nick Pivetta (2-3) was tagged with the loss after allowing 1 earned run on 1 hit while striking out 2 in 1 inning of relief work. Leading the Boston hitting attack were Rafael Devers (1 for 3, Double, Run, RBI, 2 Walks, and Stolen Base) and Masataka Yoshida (1 for 4, Double, 2 RBI). Player of the Game: Gunner Henderson AL East Standings: 3rd Place, 3 1/2 Games Behind

Florida Complex League - Platinum Stick Awards
The Platinum Stick Awards were announced today, and the Tigers organization paced the Florida Complex League with 4 winners. The Red Sox organization had 1 winner with Matt Duffy, but his CRAZY stats were a result of some glitch in the game that gave him super-inflated ratings. I had to nuke them, so no expectation of him being able to replicate.

A much-needed victory against a very tough home team (MLB best 43-19) helps in the Wild Card chase. On the day, the Boston Red Sox (68-57) picked up the 5 to 2 victory over the Houston Astros (67-57).
Starter Brayan Bello (12-11) earned the victory after permitting just 2 earned runs on 8 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7 in 7 innings of play; Game Score 58. Nick Pivetta (H 7) bounced back from yesterday's loss to keep the opposition in check with a scoreless 8th inning before turning the ball over to closer Liam Hendriks (SV 27) who notched the save. Leading the way at the plate for the Red Sox were Rafael Devers (3 for 4, 2 Homeruns, 3 Runs, 2 RBI, Walk), Ceddanne Rafaela (1 for 3, Homerun, Run, 2 RBI, Sacrifice Fly), and Vaughn Grissom (2 for 3, Double, RBI, Walk). This marks the 3rd time in the last 4 seasons that Devers has reached the 30 Homerun mark. Ronel Blanco (5-7) was given the start by the Astros but was knocked around for 4 earned runs on 7 hits, 3 walks, and a wild pitch while striking out 5 in 5 innings of work; Game Score 39. Ryan Pressly pitched 2 innings in relief in which he allowed 1 earned run on 2 hits before reliever Carlos Estevez pitched the final 2 innings without permitting any further damage. Kyle Tucker (2 for 4, Double, Run, RBI and Yainer Diaz (1 for 3, RBI, Walk) played well on the day. Player of the Game: Rafael Devers (Season: #9) AL East Standings: 3rd Place, 3 Games Behind

Florida Complex League - Manager of the Year
The winner of the Manager of the Year award was announced today by Florida Complex League officials. After leading his team to a 41-14 record, there was little doubt that Mike Alvarez would not be named. While his staff had a rough 5.17 ERA, his team's batting average was .328 and had an astonishing 217+ run differential.

This was a big win over one of the best pitchers in baseball. In a game that was closer than the final score indicates, the Boston Red Sox (69-57) beat the Houston Astros (67-58) by an 8 to 4 score.
The Jack Flaherty experiment continues to prove successful in the box score but rumors are there is a serious divide in contract extension discussions. Regardless of the haggling, Flaherty (13-7) picked up the victory after allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits, 5 walks, 1 wild pitch, and 1 hit batsman while striking out 8 in 7 innings of work; Game Score 52. Ryne Stanek covered the final 2 innings without allowing any further damage. The Red Sox offense was powered by Jarren Duran (2 for 5, Double, Homerun, Run, 4 RBI), Tommy Edman (2 for 4, Double, RBI), and Pablo Reyes (1 for 3, Run, RBI, Walk). The Astros have relied on ace Framber Valdez this season, so expectations were high for this game. Much to the disappointment of the home crows, Valdez (13-9) was tagged with the loss after serving up 6 earned runs on 7 hits, 2 walks, and 2 hit batsman while striking out 7 in 6 1/3 innings of work; Game Score 40. Lance McCullers Jr. pitched the next 1 2/3 innings in relief but was hit for 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits and a walk. Josh Hader wrapped up the final inning without allowing any additional scoring. At the plate, Mauricio Dubon (2 for 4, Double, Run, 2 RBI), Yordan Alvarez (1 for 5, Homerun Run, RBI), and Jeremy Pena (1 for 3, Double, Run, Walk) played well. Player of the Game: Jarren Duran (Season: #3) AL East Standings: 3rd Place, 2 Games Behind

Florida Complex League - Outstanding Pitcher Award
The New York Mets had high expectations for prospect Kade Morris this season and he did not disappoint. In picking up the Outstanding Pitcher Award for the Florida Complex League, Morris posted a 3-3 record with a 1.52 ERA and 59 strikeouts in 53 1/3 innings. The Red Sox organization managed to get one of its prospects into the voting pool, with Paul Wilson securing 30 total votes.

What a game that provided for the 3-game sweep. In picking up the dramatic win, the Boston Red Sox (70-57) scored 2 runs in the 9th inning to top the Houston Astros (67-59) by a 2 to 1 score. Despite the sweep, Boston is not making up ground or gaining separation as the majority of the teams continue to win as well.
This was a fine outing for Tanner Houck (14-8), as he allowed just 1 earned run on 5 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6 in 8 innings of work; Game Score 73. Closer Liam Hendriks (SV 28) provided a lock-down final inning to pick up the save. Boston's offense was led by Masataka Yoshida (1 for 3, Double, Run, Walk), Rafael Devers (1 for 4, Double, Run, RBI, Stolen Base), and Tyler O'Neill (2 for 4, Stolen Base). Astros starter Luis Garcia (11-7) was the hard-luck recipient of the loss after a solid game in which he permitted just 2 earned runs on 7 hits and 1 walk while striking out 4 in 8 2/3 innings of play; Game Score 65. Bryan Abreu covered the final 1/3 inning without any damage done. Yordan Alvarez (2 for 4) and Yainer Diaz (1 for 4, Triple, Run) provided some offense on the day. Player of the Game: Tanner Houck (Season: #10) AL East Standings: 3rd Place, 2 Games Behind
