Whereas I should have guessed that you'd never let this go without descending to insults…
Quote:
Once again for the willfully ignorant (or the deeply stupid…choose your fighter!), the beauty of the long schedule is that it lets all the external factors even out. Hot spells, cold spells, weather and travel woes, paternity leave and getting your recovering star pitcher eaten by the killer grass. Every team has to suffer them and the measure of the team is how you succeed in TOTALITY, not in any one particular case. Otherwise, why save your precious head-to-head for ties only? In 2000, the Mets finished 1 game behind the Braves for the NL East, the Braves having gone 95-67 to our 94-68. (It didn't help Atlanta because we upset the #1 seed Giants, who went 97-65, while the Braves bungled against St. Louis and then we beat the Cards and went to the World Series, which is a perfect example of why Wild Cards suck and completely invalidate the reason we play all those games.) But…you know what?? We BEAT the Braves head-to-head that season, 7 games to 6. So really, we should have won the division, right? So what if the Braves beat down the last-place Phillies a few more times than we did…when it was time to play them head-to-head in May, we "stayed ready" and they didn't! We were better and the post-season proved it! Ha! Of course, that's absurd. Random head to head games that happened before the Olympics shouldn't be used to determine who was more worthy when the Presidential Debates (Al Gore is gonna put Social Security in a lock-box, yo!) are going on. The whole season counts, equally. No special bonus points for that one game in July when Greg Maddux just didn't have it and we blew his ass off the mound with 6 runs in the 2nd inning. That one game (the margin for the season series, mind you!) was no more determinative for who "deserved" to win that division than it would be to decide whether or not Maddux "deserved" the Hall of Fame. You play them all, you count them all, and if you're tied, you play one more. That's what "real men" (since you seem to want to put your penis on the table…be careful not to catch a splinter, okay?) do, rather than hunt about in the archive and try to elevate a micro-fraction to undue importance. Quote:
By the way, I'm completely lying about 2000. The Braves actually won the head-to-head, 7-6. But my hypothetical illustrates the point, anyhow. (I was going to point out that the 97-65 Giants lost their head-to-head to the second place Dodgers, 7 games to 5. But since the Dodgers finished 11 games back, 86-76, I had doubts about your ability to accept hyperbole to illustrate the IMO absurdity of your position, so I fibbed instead. And the world keeps on turning…) Last edited by Amazin69; 09-30-2025 at 12:06 PM. |

Not an insult. Stating the obvious everyone else here sees. Enjoy your polka dot sky.

Surrrrrrre. You meant "small" as a compliment, no doubt.
I guess it's good to know you're starting the lies right away. [/glass one-eighth full] Quote:

Whereas others here, Deja, CONN, West, ragnar, etc can take a sincere correction and not feel attacked & go scorched earth. And they've adjusted me as well. But that's not you. You are never wrong. You are, at minimum, "right-ish". Thus, you are too small to concede a point. You can't even acknowledge you "misspoke" or didn't express yourself the way you wanted to. That's not an insult. That is an observation. Hope tomorrow is a nice, shiny, polka-dotty one for you.

Don't give "constructive criticism" unasked. It makes you look like a dick. Also, learn to accept that others have different opinions without appointing yourself The Arbiter of Truth. None of this "I see the sky as blue and you say it's polka-dot" crap. We have a difference of opinion. Deal with it. BTW, the sky is not actually blue. It only appears that way to you (under certain conditions). As Casey Stengel used to say, "You could look it up." Peace, Light, and Love. Last edited by Amazin69; 09-30-2025 at 09:11 PM. |

Don't like the Yanks. Don't like Sox. And I don't like taking pitchers out that are pitching shutouts. Yes, I know I'm an old fart. & I don't care.

How do you walk 2 runs in when you are up 10-2 in the 8th?

I think the Dodgers scoring 10 runs says more about the Reds than the other teams.

I am generally okay with the format of the MLB playoffs. The only aspect that bothers me is this wildcard round in which all three games are played in one stadium. That's a bit rough, in my opinion.
EDIT: The reason that I read is that they don't want the bye teams to be sitting around too long. Well, IMO they could sit one extra day, a travel day, and have the format be first game at the lower seed's stadium, travel, and two games at the higher seed's ballpark.

To quote Ron Burgundy, "Stay classy, San Diego". Since (I presume) Bogaerts struck out, that means there were at least two other strikes he could have hit. Or he could have gotten a hit in a different at bat. Or, the other Padres could have gotten other hits. Or the pitchers could have pitched better. Or, or, or, or, or, or, or, or.
Yes (presumably), the ump blew the call. (X only allows me one free peek and I blew that on the video of X [Bogaerts] losing it.). So what? None of the players are perfect, either. Maybe we should replace Bogaerts with a robot, too. And hope it doesn't rust from all its crying. Smell you next season, Bogie. |

They cannot get the robo ump in fast enough to suit me. And it should be calling all balls and strikes, not just adjudicating challenges.

I'm pretty sure more road teams than home teams have won the wild card round since it began a few years ago so I don't think home field advantage really matters unless ticket sales are not distributed evenly which I'm not sure of.
