Yes, with both Waller and Legette scoring, that means each team has had contributions from a formerly-retired player.

(What, Legette wasn't retired? Huh.)

As the Miami/Carolina game unfolded, I got the feeling the loser would have a new HC next game.

Tampa & Seattle both wearing old school jerseys. Nice seeing as they came into the NFL together.

Nice to see the Expansion Bowl throwbacks; the Bucs honor the Creamsicles fairly regularly, but since Seattle switched conferences, they've really committed to the new color palette, in various permutations. Cool.

Good comeback by the Panthers. Rico Dowdle busting out for 206 rushing yards was a pleasant surprise. Cowboys coming to Charlotte next week…that game could go any of several ways.

Mike McDaniel didn't bother to use the Dolphins' final time-out, hoping for a botched snap. Eric Collins wondered if that meant Mike just gave up…and presuming his bosses are wondering the same thing. I hope Mike doesn't get fired, though…I enjoy Annie Agar's impression of him too much.

"To win the game, you need to win the game." We'll miss you, Mike…

Did the Titans announcer just say "if you lose it, it still goes down as a loss"?

I'm proud to say that I had an answer, instantly. (He is a Hall of Famer who spent his entire career with New York, but that's still reasonably impressive.). Perhaps, I should be worried that this is the sort of thing I take pride in, but still.

Did anybody else have that reflex kick in?
Wasn't Rosie Grier an outstanding member of the Giants? But I doubt he played in 1941.

The Jets are garbage. Starting the season 0-5 for the first time in their history. They made the Dallas defense look like a professional unit. Game was over at 30-3. Everything that came after that is meaningless.

A few interesting historical tidbits about New York football.

The Giants scored a TD on their first two possessions on Sunday. The last time they did that was 5 years ago.

The Giants turned the ball over on 5 consecutive possessions. The last time any team did that was 9 years ago. The team that did it, the Jets.

The New York Jets are the first team in league history to start 0-5 and have 0 turnovers.

A friend in a fantasy league of mine was upset that he didn't play Dak, who got close to 50 pts. I said "you didn't play Dak & he was playing the JETS????" SMH

IDK what it is, I have nothing to base this on, this is pure speculation & intuition not based on any fact at all. In fact, downright stupid. But something inside tells me Glenn is going to turn the Jets around like Campbell did the Lions. That this is the calm before the storm.

I can't tell you why I feel that way. Feel free to mark this down & show how stupid I am after his firing next year. I just got that feeling.

This wasn't '41, but my dad claims in the early 50's he, his brothers & the neighborhood kids would play on the same field the Giants practiced on. The NYG came for practice in the middle of the neighborhood kids game & they didn't want to stop. So the Giants said they would play them for the field & the kids agreed. He said he got on the LOS the opposing player's leg was wider than he was. And my father said "Heck naw"! And left. His bros were furious but he just went home.

So, the offense should retain possession, with a loss of down, at say the one-yard line.

But no:

Quote:
In American football, a touchback is a ruling that is made and signaled by an official when the ball becomes dead on or behind a team's own goal line (i.e., in their end zone) and the opposing team gave the ball the momentum, or impetus, to travel over the goal line, but did not have possession of the ball when it became dead. Such impetus may be imparted by a kick, pass, fumble, or in certain instances by batting the ball.

The result of a touchback is that the team in whose end zone the ball became dead receives possession of the ball and starts play with a first down at its own 20-, 25-, or 35-yard line, depending on the situation and league. A touchback is not a play, but a result of events that may occur during a play. A touchback is the opposite of a safety with regard to impetus since a safety is scored when the ball becomes dead in a team's end zone after that team — the team whose end zone it is — caused the ball to cross the goal line.
But wow, do these guys follow the news at all? Sporting news, at least? These are not rocket scientists, many of them.

The usual nonsense yesterday, in two ways: Crappy football by New York teams and being forced to watch it because CBS and Fox figure that is what we want to view. Well, not this go round; for the first time, I found something else to watch.

I have "left town" in spirit, if not in body, when it comes to New York sports, particularly football. I am a free spirit now. It's wonderful.

Coach is lucky that, in this day and age, he didn't get a stiff forearm to the nose in response. I don't see the average professional taking that lightly.
