Me and Bruce Allardice looked a bit into this guy and he is in fact the same man that was an officer for the Union Army so here is a better photo of the Liberty shortstop during his younger years.

EDIT: So apparently this is likely not the 1847 team photo. A book from 2006 I own has this image listed as that but SABR apparently published a document debunking this in 2011 which doesn't appear to be well known for some reason given that there are countless websites still listing this. Apparently SABR mentioned that this was also listed as the 1846 team incorrectly by some people too. Thank you tnfoto for sharing this with me to correct it.

The 1870 team photo for the Washington & Jefferson College baseball team. This was before the team even acquired the name "Presidents."

The Pioneer Club of Portland, Oregon, from either 1866 or 1867. The players are (based on my knowledge) Theodore Miner, Ed Quackenbush, W.K. Witherell/Withercell, William Wadhams, William Warren, James Upton, Joseph Buchtel. James Slevi???, P.W. DeHuff

The posted photo almost certainly does not picture the 1847 Knickerbocker club. An extensive 44-page analysis of the image was presented in the October 2011 SABR Pictorial History Committee newsletter supplement.

Thanks for that, the book I have which was published in 2006 has the image listed as the 1847 team and so do a number of sites online. That document was very helpful.

Due to me having questions recently about certain images due to the hit or miss-ness of certain websites and overall difficulty that there has always been with 19th century images, I have provided the sources for most of the images from what I can remember so if there is any issues please let me know and I will try to correct them.
