Coming Out of Retirement - From OOTP 13 to 26
I am getting back into OOTP after about a 7 year hiatus. I had an old modern day MLB save from OOTP 13 that I invested a ton of time and several years into and really had a great time with. After thinking the game file was corrupt I was actually able to recently import and update it all the way through.
I have 2-3 separate questions. First being is it worth going right into 26 or would I be better off staying at 24 or 25 with it based on the age of the save from 13 and any issues or changes (new dev/rating system etc) and also just what overall version of the three do you all prefer and think is best? Second part question being what issues to expect with importing such an old save? Other than the obvious rule changes and some other things just curious as to what others have encountered or any tips etc. Lastly, how is development and aging been over the last three releases and are the defaults fixed in OOTP 26? Back in 2013/2014 I was part of a pretty in-depth study to fix the problem of players consistently flaming out in their mid to late 20s with barely any good players remaining into their 30s. From looking over posts it seems this is still an issue in 24/25/26? By tweaking the modifiers aggressively we were able to pretty much fix it and find a good balance. The current modifiers I used in 13 that worked well were: Batting Aging Speed: .250 Batting Dev Speed: 1.000 Pitching Aging Speed: .375 Pitching Dev. Speed: .900 TCR: 67 It seems given the way the game operates on league total modifiers this may still work? However, curious if this would be too aggressive given the current game's development model. Thanks for all your help and time. Happy to be back at it. |

I’m pretty certain you can only import a game from one edition prior. That probably renders all your other questions moot.

The jump from 24 to 25 is the biggest most massive leap since the recoding from... 15 to 16?
Internal scouting range changed from 1-250 to 1-550, and then from 25 to 26 went to 600 There's dev labs Coaches are back It's such a vastly different game compared to 13. So much more stuff to do. IAFA

No you can, you just have to update the save game through each prior demo version. Very possible and I’ve already done it to get it up to 24 at the moment. Now I have to decide what version to stick to 24,25 or 26 for now and curious about it.

You can't purchase old versions (unless something has changed?) so you're probably going to have to go with 26.

https://www.ootpdevelopments.com/ootp-prior-version/ You will need all the ones between the save and OOTP26 but you just import it from one to the other and then repeat until you reach the current version. That's how he was able to get up to 24.

Since 20 it hasn't been a true demo. Prior to OOTP20 it was a true demo version of the whole game that only lasted for like 2 weeks, since 20 you can only import past versions, then you can play the full game until you save or close then it's back to only importing. Was there a reason for the change? |

I find your overall post to be pretty interesting. As I test the game I have wondered if some of the issues I see myself and have read about were recent problems or things that have always been there. Your post is an example that some of the things people are struggling with are long standing issues. One of my bigger struggles with the last few versions is having the game create true outliers. Guys that show up every once in a while at age 19/20 that are ready to be stars out of the gate or players that are just overall much better than their peers (this is for a fictional game). Without tweaking all of the players in the league are just a little better or worse than the average. It creates mundane leaderboards. To fix that specific problem I depress the talent of the league. I drop player players creation modifiers to .600 for most of the hitting categories to make the bulk of the players. then when I want to create stars I move all of those categories up to 1.100 to 1.400 depending on what I want. Boom now I have starts that are outliers but aren't necessarily going to be historical starts because injury and development still play a role in things. My overall point is that like it was for you back in '13 with a fait amount of tweaking on your part you can still create the universe you would be looking for. Welcome back. |

Importing One Version at a Time
I had a game I first downloaded in OOTP 11. I imported it into every new version, but I recently found out it had been overwritten or misnamed and was a copy of another game I also copied from version to version. I ran into the same problem: you can only import games from one OOTP to the next.
As was suggested in a post above, I downloaded the older versions, back to OOTP 11. When I opened 12, I was asked for the license code for 12 which I no longer had. I thought I was at a dead end. Then I noticed the "import from the previous version" function worked, even though the 12 game itself could not be played. So I tried importing the game I wanted from 11 to 12 and it worked. Then I imported the game 12 to 13, and so on until I got to 16. In the OOTP 16 demo, the import function did not work. So I'm stuck unless I download the 16 demo again and it works or I get the license code for 16. I have the license codes back to OOTP 21, so if I can get that far, I can resurrect that version 11 game. I've paid for every version so the license codes should be out there somewhere. I don't remember where OOTP was purchased before FastSpring, but if anybody remembers or knows how to get the info, I would appreciate it. |

Yes the issue with longterm hall of fame level type players etc was something we extensively studied about ten years ago. I really need to dig it up and post it here because it was one of the best group efforts from members of the forum at the time. As much as the game has changed because of how statistics/performance and divided out to all players across a league total it really has stayed the same. In previous versions high performing outliers werenÂ’t as much as an issue but more so that their higher level performing years never lasted for than 3-5 years so there were really no hall of fame caliber players and as you described career tracks were more diluted and average. The modifiers worked well because I believe it slowed aging down to a point where among other things higher level players now had a chance to potentially have longer higher performing careers and with the development slowed down just a bit also not be pushed out by younger players too quickly. It also ensured with younger players only the very best were coming through which is more realistic etc. plan on testing this out once I decide what version to go with. Thanks again for all the input. |

SAVE, SAVE, SAVE
So if something goes wonky on you, you can go back and make the necessary changes.
