Advice

My league now features 4 wild card slots. After the final day of the season, I had 5 teams finish 86-76 tied for the final wild card slot. Unfortunately the game simply left the team(Peoria) listed in the 5th spot and schedule playoff games featuring the 4 other teams. In a world without tie breakers, how should something like this be played out?

For future reference, is there a way to fix this situation manually?

Thanks

DW, you'll probably find if you go into the team v team report for the season that the game has applied some kind of H2H logic between all of the tied clubs to relegate Peoria to 5th.

Furthermore, there's an option to apply tiebreaks to playoffs in the OPTIONS tab (see below)

Thank you. I do have that box checked. If some form of h2h or runs scored etc. type deal was used to eliminate Peoria, I'm fine with it. I was just worried that the game was simply taking the first 4 teams listed and the 5th team was out simply due the place they were listed. Funny, in real life I'm not the biggest fan of wild cards, but when playing OOTP, I love the post season more than anything, so I want as many games as possible. Plus, there's nothing better than a August and September with meaningful games every day.

Odd, then, that no tiebreak was applied here...

I think I may have you confused with my poor wording. I have 4 wild cards. In my game Corpus Christi earned the first wild card. Arkansas earned the second. Dayton the third. Cedar Rapids, New Orleans, Peoria, San Antonio and Fort Wayne all finished with 86-76 records.

San Antonio played Fort Wayne and New Orleans played Cedar Rapids in game 163. Cedar Rapids then played Fort Wayne in game 164. Peoria played no more. Fort Wayne beat Cedar Rapids to earn the 4th wild card.

No, bud, that's on me - you worded it just fine. I'm still gonna go with the H2H explanation, but with diminished confidence.

That's an interesting twist on the old TV maxim: "But would it play in Peoria?" Apparently in your OOTP world, NOTHING plays in Peoria lol

i am sure you can create your own tie breaker, like team with most runs scored.
i am sure if some tie breaker was applied the game would show the tie breaker.
i am sure you can run a report for the history you create to see how many seasons had tie breakers and summarize tie breakers used.

I would imagine it uses the same tiebreaker process as it would for any other multi-team tie, but I do not know exactly how OOTP handles them.

Here is how MLB does.

https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-playoff-tiebreaker-rules

Obviously, it gets pretty complicated towards the end of the process so I'm not sure if the game would have the "Last Half" and/or "Last Half + 1" part of the process (not a lot of bang for buck trying to program that in).

Matt would have to provide the full details here.

Thanks. For now I decided to just go back to the 2 wild card setup I was using all along. Thought about turning off the tie breaker games, but sure enough the minute I do so, I will have 2 teams tie for the division lead. I would really want a tie breaker game in that case.
