Does anyone have a clearer shot of this image? I was told it was taken at the Haymakers Grounds but I don't have a date on it.

Carey Selph 1929
Nothing spectacular here. I came across a photo of Carey Selph from spring training of 1929 in the St. Louis Globe Democrat (March 20, 1929). I had no clue who he is, so I went to his bio on the SABR website.
Four days after this photo was published, he re-injured a knee that he had previously injured in 1928 participating in a football scrimmage at Baylor University, where he was an assistant coach. Branch Rickey later stated that Selph had won the starting job prior to hurting his knee. Instead, he ended up as a backup with only 25 games for the season, hurting his knee yet again on July 13, 1929. He hurt it again during the 1930 season. After a bounce-back season with Houston in 1931, he was taken by Chicago in the Rule 5 draft and played all of 1932 with the White Sox. He was back in Houston in 1933 and 1934 as a player-manager, and then retired from baseball. Here he is at the start of this journey, just a promising rookie in spring training after a good game. |

Ward
I received a message on BR Bullpen from some person known simply as Rick who said he's with the SABR biographical research committee who claims the image of John E. Ward (1884) tnfoto posted here is actually of Piggy Ward. Is there any base for this claim or evidence? I haven't seen anything in regards to it so I figured I'd ask before I removed it from the site.

Jack Scheible 1893
I found a nice woodcut of Scheible while he was a member of the Youngstown baseball team. The image was located in the 12/27/1896 edition of the Youngstown Sunday Vindicator. Scheible tragically died the following year of typhoid fever.

Charles Ingraham (1883)
In the 1884 Trenton team photo, printed in the Trenton Times on December 7, 1903, there is a pitcher identified as Ingranham. This is actually Charles Ingraham. Below is the image from the team photo, as well as the current image of Ingraham posted on Baseball-Reference, and the player in the 1886 Oshkosh team photo tentatively assigned to Ingraham. The assignment from 1886 looks good compared to the Trento photo.

PHOTO LOCATED Charles "Shorty" Gallagher 1901 Cleveland
I've been out of the image hunting game for a bit, but took another crack at my most wanted white whale yesterday, Shorty Gallagher, who played briefly with Cleveland in 1901.
Gallagher, most commonly known as "Chubby" rather than "Shorty" was a Detroiter who had a pretty long career dating from 1891 to 1903 or so in various minor and semipro leagues. Lots of notes on him, but he very seldom stayed in one place long enough to appear in a team photo. He was also the only player in the history of the Cleveland AL franchise with no known photo. In late July 1902, when the Michigan State League folded, he was brought to New Orleans by Abner Powell for a trial along with another player named Adam Vogt. Since that paper featured photos of players pretty regularly, I figured there was a chance, and I had scoured the paper years ago, but no luck. Then I had a flash of insight to just search for Vogt's name and voila, he was pictured alongside Gallagher in the August 3, 1902 New Orleans Times Picayune. The issue was that Gallagher was misspelled Gallegher in that day's paper, and he also didn't play in that day's game, so the name only appeared once on the page and only misspelled. Kind thanks to Cusick for improving the image quality. |

Chad Cordero All Uniforms (Part 1)
Pictures of Chad Cordero in every uniform for each team's organization he played in. The Mets one might be a fake edit job, because I only ever seen it in MLB 2K11 and took a picture of it directly off my TV screen. He was also originally drafted by the Padres but didn't sign so I will edit him into the uniform to do a 'what-if' at some point.
