Wednesday, January 7, 2093 PIKE AT HIS PEAK --- INDUCTED INTO IPA HALL OF FAME The journey took a while, but he finally arrived -- one of baseball's finest hurlers, William Pike, is now a member of the Islandian Pro Alliance Hall of Fame. Commenting on his election, one of his longtime managers said, "My idea of managing is giving the ball to William Pike and sitting down and watching him work. He certainly made my job easier. And he certainly made me a better manager." And pitch he certainly did -- Pike appeared in 507 games in his career, tossed 3259 innings with 2244 strikeouts and compiled an impressive 198-136 record and 2.96 ERA. He starred 14 seasons with the Tuckanarra Blue Jays. Pike was a 4-time All-Star and played from 2067 to 2080 and led the Tucks to 4 division crown. Once topped the Tycobbian Union with a 1.83 ERA in 2074. The ballots are counted and the results are in. One player was enshrined this year: William Pike will now see his plaque mounted beside the other greats from the game. The full voting results are included here. Players require 75% of ballots cast to be elected to the Hall, may stay on the ballot for up to 10 years if they receive at least 5% of the votes. Players must be retired for 3 years before they are eligible for induction to the Hall of Fame. Thursday, April 2, 2093 2093 PRO CUP PICKS: VALMARA (RU) VS LA CLAIRE (TU) The Islandian Pro Alliance new season is just around the corner. Opening Day is this Saturday. 64 clubs are prepped and primed and ready to engage in six months of diamond warfare in search of the Holy Grail of the IPA -- the treasured IPA Pro Cup Trophy. The baseball crystal ballers have gazed fervently into team rosters and forecast that it will be the Valmara Vipers winning the Ruthlandian Union crown this year and take on the Tycobbian Union champion La Claire Lynx in the Pro Cup Series. Let's take a quick peep at all of the 8 IPA divisions and see what might be in store for the coming season. RUTHLANDIAN UNION VIPERS AND GATORS WILL DUKE IT OUT IN THE RU NORTH LaGrange has copped the Ruthlandian North the last 3 seasons and 7 times in the last dozen years. The Gators won 107 games last year and ran away with the division by 27 games. Nope, not gonna happen this year. They will be vigorously challenged by Valmara, who will wind up winning a very close race. The rest of the RU North will be playing for third place. The Vipers will take the title because they have a better pitching staff the Gators. Valmara won the IPA Pro Cup in 2089. The Vipers are poised to regain the throne room in the RU North. 4-TEAM FRACAS IN RU SOUTH WITH CLAXTON SLIGHT FAVORITE The Claxton Diamonds have won the Ruthlandian South in 3 of the last 4 years. They are favored again by diamond experts --- Oops, that is misleading --- I should say by the baseball experts --- But it will not be easy. Valka, Crystal Lake and Belair Beach are poised to give them another battle-to-the-last once again this year. Claxton just barely won the pennant last year. Valka and Grand City lost by just one game. Crystal Lake was only 5 games back in fourth place. It may be ditto again. The Diamonds and Blackhawks have the superior pitching, which will probably make the difference in the race. CC RACCOONS SLIGHTLY FAVORED IN 5-TEAM FREE-FOR-ALL FORECAST FOR RU EAST Last year Marston handily won the Ruthlandian East by 14 games. Not gonna happen this year according to the baseball know-it-alls. They are predicting that the fifth-place Cold Creek Raccoons will claw their way past Marston, Wynnamac, Eastshore and Elnora. The Cold Creek offense will win the day and give them a slight edge. Pitching is pretty much even across the division. The Marston Nine are the defending champs and have won the division flag the last 2 years. The Raccoons are postseason-starved, last making the playoffs long ago in 2081. PRO CUP CHAMP FC FIREBIRDS SEEK 6TH STRAIGHT RU WEST TITLE The Forest City Firebirds were the best in the Ruthlandian Union West last year hands down, winning by 10 games over the Fort Benton Cannons. The prognosis for this year is a tighter race, but the current IPA Pro Cup champion will triumph again. 4 clubs will be in contention. Rocky Rapids, Fort Benton and Volusia could be in the chase. The Snappers and Vigilantes can hit with the Firebirds, but they don's have the hurlers. When it's all said and done Forest City will prevail again in the RU West and seek back-to-back Pro Cup crowns. TYCOBBIAN UNION HARTSDALE RAISIN' HELL AGAIN IN TU NORTH The Hartsdale Hellcats should continue their dominance in the Tycobbian North again in 2093. The Hellcats have piled up pennants in 7 of the last 11 seasons. According to the baseball analysts they will hit paydirt again and 3-peat. White River is given the best chance to overtake the Hellcats, but it's not likely. North Hills and Oxford will be a distant fourth in the standings. Hartsdale has improved over last year when they surprisingly went all the way to the Pro Cup Finals, but succumbed to Forest City in 6 games. SUMMERLAND SET TO SNARE 6TH TU SOUTH IN SUCCESSION It's getting to be old hat in the Tycobbian South, but Summerland will probably ride off into the sunset with its 6th successive division flag. Nobody can match their magnificent mound corps. There is only one challenger on the horizon. The Southport Sun Sox have an outside chance of taking the Sunsets to task. Summerland's postseason problems has always been its poor and anemic offense. In recent years they have not been able to get past powerhouse La Claire, who has a little better offense than the Sunsets and can match their mound magic. However, Summerland did reach the Pro Cup Finals in 2088 and fell to the Belle Plaine Musketeers in 5 games. That's the closest the Sunsets have come to a Pro Cup Trophy. SF STALLIONS SNORTIN' FOR 5TH STRAIGHT TU EAST TITLE Yeah, buddy, the South Fork Stallions have raced to 4 consecutive Tycobbian East division titles and just might rack up its fifth one this year. South Fork has claimed the TU East on 6 occasions in the last 8 seasons. They are still the class of the TU East. None of the other clubs are expected to offer much opposition in the pennant hunt. The Stallions have won decisively by double-digit numbers the last two seasons with over 100 victories. Nothing has changed. South Fork is still a potent force with standout hitting and power and fairly good pitching. No one can match their offensive attack. Ozarka with its pretty good hurlers seems to be the only threat to the Stallions. High Mesa and Tuckanarra are forecast to finish way back in the race. South Fork has won 4 Pro Cups in its IPA history, the last one way back in 2077. This current edition has the talent to have won 2 or 3 Pro Cups in the last 5 years, but the Stallions have not played in the playoffs as well as they did in the regular season. IS LA CLAIRE A DYNASTY WITH 6 PENNANTS IN A ROW AND 3 PRO CUPS? Could be. We'll see. The well-informed pundits and pollsters think so. The La Claire Lynx are the only club likely to win a 100 games this season in the Isladian Pro Alliance. They do everything on the diamond very well and should again demolish all comers in the Tycobbian West. La Claire will be pursuing its 7th division crown in a row and its 4th Pro Cup in history. Rolling Hills and Bayview will only offer minimal opposition in the pennant race. The season outlook for the Lynx is another division title by double-digit figures again. Only Rolling Hills has contested them with any regularity. The Racers ran a tight race in a couple of seasons in recent seasons and are the last team to nab the TU West title. That occurred in 2086. Yes, indeed. I do declare that La Claire is already a dynastic team, right up their with the Far Mountain Redhawks who won 3 consecutive Pro Cups, 2011-2013. They also came close in 2009 and lost the Pro Cup Series 4 games to 3 to the Turon Typhoons, after having a 3-0 lead. The North Hills Hawks won 4 in 8 years from 2034 to 2041. The Hawks also lost in the Pro Cup Finals in 2043. The absolute best of all-time was the Rolling Hills Racers with 4 Pro Cups in 8 years from 2060 to 2068. The Racers also lost twice in that period in the Pro Cup Finals. Overall Rolling Hills has chalked up 10 Pro Cups in its fabled IPA history, followed by Turon with 6 and Valmara with 5. 2093 Islandian Pro Alliance Pro Cup Series Outlook: It will feature the Valmara Vipers for the Ruthlandian Union and the La Claire Lynx for the Tycobbian Union. The Lynx will win the overall IPA crown in 6 games over the Vipers. Last edited by Eugene Church; 03-25-2026 at 04:48 PM. |

Sunday, July 5, 2093 IPA PRESEASON FAVORITES FALTERING AT MIDSEASON Only 4 of the preseason choices in the Islandian Pro Alliance are living up to their billing. In the Ruthlandian Union Valmara leads the RU North by 5 games and Cold Creek is up by 1 and a half in the RU East. Over in the Tycobbian Union Hartsdale is on top of the TU North by 7 and a half games and Summerland is blitzing the TU South by an outrageous 15 games at the midseason mark. The other 4 preseason picks, Claxton, Forest City, South Fork and La Claire have faltered thus far and have a struggle on their hands. Forest City is the current IPA Pro Cup holder. They defeated Hartsdale last year for the overall league title in a 6-game series. This year the baseball pundits and byliners selected the Valmara Vipers and the La Claire Lynx to meet for the revered Pro Cup in October. At midyear it is looking like a Valmara-Summerland Pro Cup Series. And away we go on a quick trip around the Islandian Pro Alliance and its 8 divisions. Ruthlandian Union VIPERS LOOKING GOOD IN RU NORTH - LAGRANGE STRUGGLING LaGrange has won the Ruthlandian North the last 2 seasons, but the Gators are struggling this year. Valmara was the preseason choice and at the halfway point, the Vipers are the best team in the division with a 5-game edge over the second-place Far Mountain Redhawks. LaGrange has collapsed to just an ordinary .500 team, languishing in 5th place, 9 games behind. None of its pitchers are having a good season like they did last season when they won 107 games. It is looking more and more like a two-club race between Valmara and Far Mountain. The Vipers have won 5 Pro Cups, last winning back-to-back flags in '89 and '90. Last Pro Cup was in '89. The Redhawks haven't won the pennant since 2083 and no Pro Cups since 2013, when they won 3 in a row. FAVORED VALKA AND LAST YEAR'S CHAMP CLAXTON TIED AT MIDSEASON IN RU SOUTH RACE; GRAND CITY AND BELAIR BEACH IN THE RUN, TOO Last year's pennant race in the Ruthlandian South was a lollapoluza that lasted to the very last day of the season involving 3 contenders. It is super tight once again. The Claxton Diamonds won it last year and was named this year's favorite by a small margin over Valka and Crystal Lake. Four clubs are in the mix. The Diamonds and Blackhawks are deadlocked at the halfway mark with Grand City clinging to their tails. Belair Beach is still lurking in the shadows in the 4th spot in the standings. 2093 could be another photo finish between the top 3 contenders. Give the advantage to Valka. They have better pitching. The Diamonds have won it 3 times in the last 5 years. The Blackhawks last made the postseason in 2078. The Cybercats last playoff appearance was in 2087. Only Claxton has claimed a Pro Cup. That was long ago in 2064. CC RACCOONS CLAW THEIR WAY TO TOP OF THE HEAP IN RU EAST A good June put the Cold Creek Raccoons ahead in the Ruthlandian East. At the midsummer break the Raccoons have a scant margin over runner-up Wynnamac and defending division champ Marston. Cold Creek was forecast to nab the pennant in the preseason poll. However many scribes are predicting the Marston Nine will win its 3rd consecutive RU East crown. The Nine are still seeking their first Pro Cup, but they have garnered the last two division titles. The Raccoons have never won the IPA crown and '81 was the last prior playoff appearance. This could be their year to prevail. They just might have the superior pitching corps. The Wynnamac Sundowners are expected to fade into the sunset and drop out of the race in the second half. The Macs just don't have the bats or arms to win it. COLFAX, VOLUSIA SERIOUS CHALLENGERS TO FOREST CITY IN RU WEST The current kings of IPA baseball are the Pro Cup champion Forest City Firebirds. They were forecast to win their 6th straight Ruthlandian West crown. But so far halfway through the season, the Colfax Black Sox and the Volusia Vigilantes are more than holding their own. They both are serious threats to the Firebirds and their repeat aspirations in their quest of another Pro Cup Trophy. The Black Sox and the V's can hit with the best of them, but their pitching is suspect. In their last postseason appearance in '85, Colfax won the whole shebang. In all the Black Sox have 2 Pro Cups. They won their first one in '10. Volusia last made the playoffs in '83. The Vigilantes last nabbed a Pro Cup long, long ago in '01, the inaugural IPA season. That's all they have won. After all is said and done, Forest City will win again. The Firebirds have it all: hitting, scoring, power, pitching and defense. 'Nuff said. Don't be surprised if Forest City wins back-to-back Pro Cups. 2093 IPA Ruthlandian Union Midseason Standings Last edited by Eugene Church; 03-13-2026 at 09:18 AM. |

July 5, 2093 HARTSDALE STILL RAISIN' HELL IN TU NORTH Yeah, buddy, the Hartsdale Hellcats are well on their way to their 3rd consecutive Tycobbian North pennant. The Hellcats are already 7 and a half games in front with not much pressure being applied at the midseason mark by Oxford, Luxora and White River. There is no contender in sight. Look for the Hellcats to cruise to the division title and then make another run for the IPA Pro Cup. They are a much better team this year. Last season they wound up the runner-up for the precious Pro Cup, falling to IPA champion Forest City in 6 games. Could be different this year. Hartsdale has twice won the Pro Cup, 2046 and 2063. 2093 could be a heck of year for the Hellcats. SUNSETS SLAM DUNK AGAIN IN TU SOUTH FOR 6TH SUCCESSIVE SEASON It's been several seasons since the Summerland Sunsets were tested in the Tycobbian South Division. They have run off 5 pennants in a row with no end in sight. Summerland is on track to win a possible record-setting number of games. It's not quite the halfway point in the schedule and the Sunsets have already piled up 57 victories. The IPA record is 111 wins in 2066 by era powerhouse Rolling Hills. The 2093 pennant race is over in the TU South. Dominant pitching is the reason for Summerland's overwhelming success. Offense has always been its postseason problem and predicament. This season the Sunsets have added a rock-solid rookie bat Lex Van Delden to their lineup. He should make them better in the playoffs this year. SF STALLIONS SHOCKINGLY SINK IN TU EAST STANDINGS For the last 4 seasons South Fork has had its own way in the Tycobbian East Division with no serious contenders. Not so in 2093. The Stallions have fallen off their high horse and tumbled all the way down to the 6th spot in the standings, a whopping season-killing 15 games behind in the pennant race. It is bewildering. South Fork has won 206 games the last 2 years and taken the division flag for the last 4 years. And guess who has taken over in the TU East, surprising Tuckanarra? Like a bolt out of the blue, the Blue Jays are 6 games up on second place Ozarka and 7 in front of East Point. How did they do it? --- with 3 rookie right-handed starting pitchers. The results is stunning and has turned Tuckanarra from a second-division also-ran to a serious pennant contender. It is not likely that either the Naturals or Panthers can catch and overtake the Tucks. Ozarka doesn't have the pitchers. While East Point can match them on the mound and also at the plate, they have not been playing well in the last month or so. Tuckanarra may be home free in the TU East. Don't be surprised if South Fork has a good second half, but they will not win the pennant this season. They have too much ground to make up. Yeah, buddy, it would shocking if the Stallions did --- actually it would miraculous. Tucks made the playoffs most recently in '87. They have won 3 Pro Cups, the last one in 2035. The Blue Jays are not likely to win the Pro Cup this season. All they have is pitching. You don't win IPA Pro Cups with just pitching. Well-balanced teams do best. RH RACERS AND DC REDBIRDS RIVAL FAVORED LC LYNX IN TU WEST There's a red-hot pennant race going on in the Tycobbian West between favored La Claire and the Rolling Hills Racers and the Denton City Redbirds. Actually there are a few more rivals in the race. The fourth place Chicopee Braves and fifth place Bayview Vikings could get hot and get into the fracas, too. At midyear Rolling Hills and Denton City have taken advantage of huge decline in La Claire's mound corps. The Lynx are no longer the dominate team that has captured the TU West for 6 successive seasons. It seems that they will really have to earn it with their bats. Most probably, it wlll come down to Rolling Hills and La Claire --- whoever get the best from their pitching staffs will take the TU West division title. Denton City just might be playing over the heads. Don't be surprised if La Claire wins the pennant for the 7th year in a row. 3 Pro Cups in 6 seasons is pretty darn impressive. Rolling Hills has a great history --- the best in the Islandian Pro Alliance --- with 10 Pro Cups and 30 postseason appearances. 2086 was the last time the Racers were in the playoffs. This could be their year. 2093 IPA Tycobbian Union Midseason Standings Last edited by Eugene Church; 03-13-2026 at 09:25 AM. |

Wednesday, July 15, 2093 RU STARS WIN 3RD IN A ROW OVER TU STARS Overall in IPA history the Ruthlandian Union All-Stars have performed poorly, but in recent times they have dominated the Tycobbian All-Stars, knocking them off in the last three All-Star Classics and winning four of the last 5. This time around at Riverside Stadium in Forest City they trimmed the TU Stars 6-4 by getting 2 unearned in the last of the 8th on an error by third baseman Buddy DeHaven (White River). Yet Tycobbia still leads the All-Stars Series 57-36. Far Mountain second sacker Bert Trulock nabbed the game's Most Valuable Player Trophy with a perfect 3 for 3 day including a 2-run roundtripper. Owen Frank of South Fork sustained the loss, while Grand City's Alvin Hinshaw picked up the victory. The TU All-Stars drew first blood on a solo homer by Byron Benninger (Mahaska) in the top of the 3rd frame. Bert Trulock (Far Mountain) slammed a 2-run clout out of the park in the bottom of the inning to give the RU Stars a short-lived 2-1 lead. Tycobbia's Barry Bondy (Cape Coral) got the lead back 3-2 with his own 2-run swat in the top of the 4th. Ruthlandia jumped right back into the lead 4-3 in the last half of the inning on RBI base hits by Ivan Nosek (Cold Creek) and Mervin Marlowe (Claxton). Tycobbia knotted the score at 4-all in the 7th on a walk to Dick Carlton (Luxora), base hit by Jim McConnell (La Claire) and RBI single by Red Lilly (Chicopee). In the fatal and decisive 8th frame Carlton Carroll (Wynnamac) led off with a base hit, stole second base, then advanced to third on a sac bunt. Darrell Bicknell (Crystal Lake) was intentionally walked. He stole second base. Both Carroll and Bicknell came in to score on the DeHaven miscue. Game got corrupted --- the backup went back to midseason --- so all is well --- I still have the Islandian Pro Alliance --- just lost the second half of the season.
