Question Purpose of "Strikeout" and "Intro" Sounds

I'm working on sound mods, will share some soon.

"Strikeout.ogg"?
Stay with me here...... "strike_three" plays when any batter from either team strikes out. What is "strikeout" sound for? I've had it play when home team grounded into Double Play randomly! Is there not a default "strikeout.ogg"? or did I mistakenly delete it?

"Intro.ogg"?
What is the purpose of this sound and when should it play?
I have it play randomly when key at bats in crunch time seem to play?

What I'm Working on.....
Detroit Tigers Dan Dickerson current radio calls of Comerica Park and Ernie Harwell radio calls for Tiger Stadium. Also, have created the Comerica Park Current Day Advertising for walls. e.g. Belle Tire etc...

Thanks for any thoughts!

delete all sounds from intro because, they really have no purpose except for randomly going off when a home batter comes to the plate. There is zero control over it.

No idea what strikeout is. There have never been any sound clips in it.

Strike_three# (and yes you need the # like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, behind the words strike_three or it will not work) are the only sounds for strikeouts. If you want to do player announcements, its their name like if you want Miguel Cabrera to be called when he is up to bat, you make the soundfile and you name it Miguel Cabrera.ogg (No under score just the space) and you put it in the general sound files and not the stadium files.

My Ideal Next Gen Usages.....

First. Thank you for getting this Sound Mod Thread created!

I understand everything you have replied.

However, I would like to understand WHY Intro and Strikeout were designed into the game. I would prefer to have sounds that fire. Just make them appropriate rather than delete.

Strikeout to me has great opportunity. Think Cleveland Indians, strike_three1.ogg plays to call the strike out. Then the strikeout.ogg plays the super mario sound to rub it in their face. My issue is that strikeout.ogg also seems to play for key double plays?

For intro.ogg I may change it to a Tiger roar for Comerica Park.

Bottom Line, a huge opportunity is to make a strike_three1.ogg for HOME TEAM and a strike_three1.ogg for VISITORS to create a home field advantage.

I play Detroit Tigers, so I compensate the horn1.ogg with Ecstatic Home Run Calls from Dan Dickerson (radio pbp guy) and for road games (Think Tigers at Target Field) I make the horn 1 for Target field be a subdued hr call by Dickerson as he would be disappointed that the Twins hit a dinger of a Tiger Pitcher.

Hope that makes sense. Thanks again for driving this thread!

Intro is used to play walk-up music for batters. Generally it triggers late in games, with top batters at the plate.

Strikeout I don't think we actually use right now, although I think I had planned to add it in for that mocking music to play after a visiting player strikes out. If you're hearing it play off a double-play, that seems wrong - are you sure you don't have the same sound file also as one of the cheers?

Well, maybe we can do some thinking here and maybe a few changes.

Maybe make a few new sounds and change a few old ones around.

double_playout so that we can make cuts of announcers calling double plays

out This would just be for single call outs.

Change intro into the walkup for home teams and then we can play generic call ups, like how we can do now, for visitor teams to be called when they come up to bat. So like intro_Kirby Puckett.ogg (which is placed in home stadium folder) would trigger in the home stadium when he comes up to bat and the Frank Thomas.ogg in the general sound folder would announce Frank Thomas when he comes up to bat at away stadiums.

So intro prefix name in stadium folder is for home game plate appearances, and sounds in the general sound folder would be used for away games player intros.

I think a lot of us could come up with expanding the sounds. I can tell you that people are interested in this because of the numbers of downloads I have seen.

You can do custom intros for players. If you name a file based on their bbref id or name, it will play it. So if you add puckeki01.ogg, then that file will play anytime he comes up (at home, at least).

If it doesn't find the file for the player, then it plays the generic ones.

But yeah, for the rest (like announcer DP calls, or more stuff with HR calls as the ball is being hit, or visitor intros), all stuff that we can think about adding down the road.

Hi Matt,
I'm 100% confident that I didn't have that sound in two places.
I'm using Mathew Boyd with Detroit. I have a radio pbp strikeout call for strike_three1.ogg. And put Flavor Flav "Yeah Boy" in the strikeout.ogg.

I'm playing a game now and just grounded into a DP. Home Team Tigers grounded into it.

It actually just now played one of my "strike_three.ogg" sounds at the completion of the DP this time. So sometimes it plays strike_three.ogg, sometimes strikeout.ogg after a home team grounded into DP.

I have 18 total strike_three.ogg clips in my Comerica Park folder for Detroit. Working fine for strikeouts. But Strikeout.ogg does not play after the strikeout. For some reason, either seem to randomly play after I ground into a DP.

Hope this helps. I'm using a new MacBook Air M1 chip laptop.

re: Strikeout

I agree that strikeout fires some, I think somehow it might be confused with the simple out.ogg....(umpire out) because I don't think it's just on double plays.

I have a laughing (cackling sfx coded strikeoutx.ogg (x for number) and it will show up at various times. Also think I have a fan yelling at an umpire that fires at similar times, using a different number than the above.

I'll try to pay more attention, maybe it is only double plays.

My problem is, I might use one sound effect in the general file for strikeout, and then the same in park sound folder for strike three.

Ah, duh, the category for "out" looked for sound files with "out" in their names, so anything called "strikeoutX.ogg" matched there and could have been played on an out call. I'll fix it up to actually do prefix matches, so that strikeout.ogg or ambient_fan_outta_here.ogg or whatever don't go into the wrong buckets.

YASSS! That's my issue. strikeout.ogg and then strike_three6_with_out_in_this_text.ogg. are the ones that fire.
Only on DP's for me so far.

You don't even need to name it that. Having the file name Kirby Pucket.ogg in general sounds does that and will only be used at home games.

So, say I am play AT the royals. They are just going to call him up CFer Kirby Puckett while as he in the Metrodome it was at CFer #34 KIIIIIIIIIRBY PUUCKETTTTT!

What I am suggesting is, All the names in the general sounds folder should be used for away games and then have the same feature, where if you place Kirby Puckett.ogg in the stadium folder it will play a stadium specific call up for him.
