Just wanted to let you know that my free public facing tournament data app is live now, and with a bunch of data already in there. Feel free to check it out at the link below! If you're interested in helping contribute data, let me know, I have a document with all the details. Hoping to at some point have a pretty decent team of folks that can help get as much data as possible on here. going to bump this: we have over 1200 tournaments in the app already, of all kinds, including every weekly. if you're interested in getting into a new tournament, this is definitely a great place to start

all the instructions are on the upload tab on the website. there is a linked google document with all the instructions.

data is now split up with the engine change: still working on making it cleaner but pre may 11 data will never be combined with post may 11 data

projection models are now on the app: i was wary of putting them on because they're flawed and i hate people using flawed statistics, so just be cautious and have a sense of when they might be more off

added a beta version of a roster builder, that takes into consideration the model projections. it's super early, and there's a lot of functionality i want to add, but wanted to allow folks to play with it for a bit and send some feedback!

Your roster building is great. After using it, it improved my bronze tournament performances by a lot. However, got a question about the def runs/600 stat. That is also a projection, right? However, there is something weird with how it calculated cf def runs/600 for Friday Danksville. Look at these 3 players

Dominic Fletcher
OF range: 89
OF Error: 90
Of Arm: 64
Def runs/600: 1.368

Limited edition/71 Billy Bean
OF range: 94
OF Error: 99
Of Arm: 63
Def runs/600: -0.642

Vince DiMaggio
OF range: 94
OF Error: 71

Def runs/600: -1.1


It seems weird and counterintutive that Dominic Fletcher is the best defensive CF of the bunch. Is it your projections being flawed or off, like what you mentioned in an earlier post?

The defense is a work in progress: it's hard because I don't have good data, and modeling defense is a pain. I actually didn't think it was showing up on there yet, it's been in a beta on my own private side, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Yeah, can agree that modeling defense is a pain. I will say though at least in the bronze tier, the defense data seems to make sense, at least for Return of the Bronze and quick.

i did take it off for now, though i plan on bringing it back when i'm more comfortable with it. biggest problem is that i'm not willing to/require others to export per position, so there's a lot of positional noise alongside just normal variance. some of it is model fit issues too, and i'm working on trying to make it so it makes more sense.

Makes sense. As a data scientist myself, without clear input on what position they are playing, very hard to judge how well they will play defensively with some players being able to play multiple positions. If the problem does get solved, it will be very useful and helpful. Being able to see RAA/600 and Def Runs/600 is really helpful in deciding what players to play.

i'm trying to "not let perfect be the enemy of good" but it's not even good as of now, hah. once it passes the eye test a little more i'll probably let it out there.
