Guayama Brujas

"A more modern and more popular nickname for the city is Pueblo de los brujos ("town of witches" or "town of warlocks") or Pueblo brujo ("witch town"). This nickname traces its origins to a popular story that tells that residents of the city would bring a kind of leaf called hoja bruja ("witch leaf") to baseball games to "scare" the opposing team by pretending to cast spells on them. The town's baseball team then adopted the hoja bruja as their symbol.[7] Another story tells that the nickname comes from a legendary baseball player from the city's local team, Moncho El Brujo, who according to legend owed his success as a pitcher to witchcraft.[9] Regardless of the origin of the nickname, residents of Guayama are often called brujos and their basketball team now carries the name Brujos de Guayama ("Guayama Warlocks").[10]"

I have a couple more Venezuelan teams to make, and then there will be enough teams for me to have one major Caribbean league with enough minor league teams for each team.

Great stuff for a very under-developed (uni wise) region of the OOTP megaverse! I've thought occasionally about a modern version of the old pre-Castro Cuban league and this would be a great plug-in.

PS. I think it would be "Invitados"...

Thanks!

Several of these Cuban teams have more modern versions in the other thread. No reason I can't add updated modern logos for the second Havana team, Holguin, Cienfuegos and Santa Clara to my list lol

Liga Liberadores minor league version

This league would then start a few years after that. These all have future versions, except Santa Marta which I just made today - the idea there is a 19th century military name (the city is associated with Bolivar who died there), and then later it doubles as the name of a local bird.

notes:
Sabios is named after a real team
I previously made a Maracaibo Relampagos/Catatumbos team, but I think Zulia Rayos is a much better name (also basically the name of several soccer teams that have played there)
Tigrillos and Moros - I have read about every baseball league in the region during this project. Many of them have teams with indigenous branding (as Cleveland Boston etc did in this period). For example, Mayaguez, Managua, two in Venezuela. This is a much more complex topic in former Spanish colonial areas than it is in the United States and I am definitely not qualified to talk about it. For plausibility it would be correct to have a team named Indios, especially for example in a city named Cartagena de Indias, but I didn't want to make one. Tigrillos is my compromise. You can see how easily the T in that monogram could become a I.
Moros - my attempt to make a relatively non-pc historical identity. I figured an early baseball team might take on this identity in an "approving, tribute" well-meaning type way. They use Ottoman symbolism, and will be rebranded. basically based on Indios de Boer (see above) and the London rugby team Saracens, among others. Anyway don't worry I drew a vulture for their rebrand!
Also every baseball league in the world has a tigers team, but I prefer local animals, hence the tigrillo. The giants will start out generic and then become named for a local animal
Santa Marta - the Santa Marta SM logo is based on a US monogram made by user flyinglamprey on the sportslogos board. it uses the colors from the Santa Marta flag

Some stray teams I have for this league, in various stages of being finished. Once Barranquilla, Caracas, Valencia and Maracaibo move to the Caribbean major league, they need to be replaced in this league/ each needs at least one minor league team.

Osos de Bucaramanga and Santa Marta - if I get to it eventually, I would draw a bear and a bird for these. Right now they only have monograms.
Caracas Amarillos - yellow and burgandy version

Cumaná Perfectos

I've used a bunch of vintage American team names in this league (similiar to say, the Tigres and Cardinales of the real life Caribbean leagues), and what better one to use than this multilingual word?

Replaces the Bravos in the real Venezuelan League

The team is actually named Perfectos because Cumaná is the birthplace of Armando Galarraga.

I'm like 60 teams into this project, and this is possibly the last one, so I've finally drawn a palm tree

Barcelona Cangrejos

replaces the Caribes

"Barcelona is located in the state of Anzoátegui along the northern coast of Venezuela, near the foothills of the western cordillera region. Its northern ocean boundary is peppered with many beaches, including Isla de Plata, Conoma, Arapito, Cangrejo, Lecherias and Playa Mansa, which cater to the tourist industry or local populations."

Habana Elegantes again / Armando Galarraga

That last one was from the art of Conrado Massaguer, so here he is as a logo himself, which also fits the concept of an Elegantes team.
