2299 - NWL - July 24
Nuka News Update All the news you need about Bradberton and Nuka World by Evan Guy 24 July 2299 - NWL Player of the Week Selected Wild Gatorclaws third baseman Ryan Bobb walked away with the Nuka World League Player of the Week Award today after putting up some impressive numbers over the past seven days. "The Gatorclaws fans are really behind me right now," said the 30-year-old. "That helps. They give you the confidence to go out there and do better." Bobb batted .385 (10-for-26) with no home runs and 5 RBIs this week on his way to the award. Bobb is hitting .318 so far this season with 13 RBIs and 12 runs scored. He has 28 hits including no home runs, 13 walks and .417 OBP. 24 July 2299 - BNN Stats: Starting Pitching Rookie Leaders So, which rookie starting pitchers are leading the Nuka World League in innings pitched? Justin Hodges, CHER, 162.1 Ike Like, WILD, 145.2 Robert Stubbs, GRAPE, 126.1 Tim LeBlanc, FF, 123.1 Paul Giunta, QUAR, 121.0 24 July 2299 - Weekly Team Power Rankings Here are the current team power rankings for Nuka World League: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Quartz Star Force (105.4, +) 2) Dark Bloodworms (96.3, +) 3) Grape Painted Ghouls (96.1, +) 4) Cherry Ghoulrillas (95.0, --) 5) Quantum Nukalurks (92.6, -) 6) Victory Cave Crickets (91.7, o) 7) Wild Gatorclaws (85.2, o) 8) Orange Tourists (54.7, o) 24 July 2299 - Transactions This Week Monday, July 24th, 2299 Cherry Ghoulrillas: Signed free agent RP Cory Dipp to a minor league contract. Victory Cave Crickets: Signed free agent RP Blake Rollie to a minor league contract. Saturday, July 22nd, 2299 Orange Tourists: Signed free agent RP Matt Buscher to a minor league contract. Wednesday, July 19th, 2299 Victory Cave Crickets: Signed free agent RP Grinder Smith to a minor league contract. Quartz Star Force: Activated SS Bigwig Treece from the injured list. 24 July 2299 - Pennant Chase The league champion for the regular season is still yet to be determined, but the true race is in the wildcard where the Cherry Ghoulrillas, Quantum Nukalurks, and Dark Bloodworms are all vying to meet the Quartz Star Force in the first-ever Nuka Series. Cherry visits Dark, where a Bloodworms sweep could make this chase interesting. Well, Dark must sweep to have a chance. The Nukalurks need the Ghoulrillas to lose at least two and then win all three at Wild to either claim the wildcard or finish the season tied with the Ghoulrillas. Got all that? It is a lot less complicated if Cherry just wins their first two or wins one and Quantum drops one. The Ghoulrillas have a 87.5% chance to clinch the second playoff spot. Standings and Statistics

Hmmm, things had been steady for long enough this movement, albeit small, kinda surprised me, though I suppose we do have some ways to go still technically, though also as a counter-counter point, the top slots in the various leagues are still tightly held.

I know you fans of Fort Hagen and Nordhagen Beach don't want to see a tight league race, but I do hope the leagues are not all double-digit differences. Sure, the playoffs can still be exciting, but the season gets to be boring with no competition. This season, however, there are four definitely good teams and all four lead their leagues currently.

I guess what I'm saying is, seasons like this happen, and personally I'm just as excited at this point as I would be during a different season. Even if the lead seems set, there's always drama be to found somewhere, and you never know what can happen in playoffs! (Plus in a dynasty like yours, we have this nice narrative wrapping of the Fallout setting to provide extra-curricular drama too )

When they went to Quartz, the Ghoulrillas again won the series, losing 3-2 before winning 6-4 and 1-0. Following the midseason break, the teams met the next time in June at Cherry. There, the Star Force finally won the series with a 4-3 win and 4-3 loss before taking the series with a 6-1 score in the rubber match. Their last face-off was two weeks ago in Quartz where the Ghoulrillas made their final playoff push with another sweep, winning 9-8, 2-1, and 3-0. Quartz will need to win all three ace matchups with Laurence Crash (10-4, 1.11) taking on Justin Hodges (13-5, 1.57) to have its best chance. The Star Force's second pitcher, Justin's older brother, Kyle Hodges (6-1, 1.55) who also is the backup catcher, will also need to show what he has against Cherry's Chris Shields (7-4, 2.21). Mike Horne (2-4, 3.02) may have the most difficult task when he faces off against Cherry's Travis Campbell (9-9, 2.95). Quartz has relied on the managing skills this season of Nick Caudill, who came to the Nuka World League following a successful run in the Boston Youth Development League with the North Charles Bank Goonies where he won three straight championships from 2296-2298 and five overall. He is a tactician who can best be defined as unconventional where he will try two-out bunts and running everyone on the bases, even catchers. Fortunately, that has aided the Star Force, leading the NWL in stolen bases (57) and second in Base Running (+7.5). Time will tell if he is just as aggressive in the Nuka Series. In the opposite dugout, Cherry already has its own legend with success at a higher level, Mack O'Shea. O'Shea was the manager of The Slog Ghouls, where he won a CBO crown as one of the few full-time managers in 2296 and then won the Brotherhood League in 2297. In 2298, his team dropped to 3rd place in the league, missing the playoffs, and he was fired. Unlike Caudill, O'Shea is a meticulous, conventional manager who relies on the old ways of doing things. He is a control freak, so he requires everyone in the organization does what he says when he says to do it, making him offputting to some of the less serious personalities. Still, he gets results, relying on aggressive play calls without risky ones. On offense, the Star Force will need to find a way to hit on the Cherry pitching. Spot Needlewind was the team leader with just a .254 average. Bell Clark and Billy Downtown both provided some power. The Star Force are 4th in runs (282) and home runs (69), but they must find more success to win the series. For the Ghoulrillas, Andre Garden is their definitive star, hitting .244/19/66 to lead his team in all three categories. A down day by him means an almost sure loss for the Ghoulrillas, so Quartz may want to pitch around Garden and see what Rich Calvey (.196/4/23) and Roberto Cuevas (.167/8/32) can do. Leadoff Moonlight Graham (.249/13/32) is also dangerous, helping Cherry eke out a few more of their NWL-leading 300 runs. In the end, our small staff at Nuka News has pounded out the numbers and scenarios, and we have this one going one way, all Cherry. We have the Ghoulrillas winning it four games to one, with our expected results: Cherry 2 at Quartz 0 Cherry 4 at Quartz 1 Quartz 3 at Cherry 4 Quartz 2 at Cherry 1 Quartz 0 at Cherry 3 Series MVP: Travis Campbell (2-0, 1 ER)

The win puts Warwick at 33-49. Bridges overpowered the Red Rockets. The Warwick left-hander allowed 3 hits over 8 innings, while recording 11 punchouts. With the win, he is 3-2 on the season. "If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Bridges. 29 July 2299 - Tentsleep Leads Ghouls to Win The home crowd had a good time watching the Finch Farm Four Leafs and The Slog Ghouls get after it. Lernz Tentsleep impressed in the 13-5 The Slog win over Finch Farm. Tentsleep, who is tied for 9th in the NCA with a .964 OPS, went 1 for 2 with a home run, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Kent Rutledge got the save, his 1st in 2 chances. With The Slog leading 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Tentsleep hit a fastball from Chad Behr for a 3-run home run. It was his 15th home run of the season and put the Ghouls ahead, 4-0. "It feels good to get this one," Tentsleep told the The Slog Herald. With the victory, the Ghouls upped their record to 41-41. Despite the loss, Peter Tatoeater of Finch Farm was the real star of the game. Tatoeater was 3 for 4 with two home runs, two runs, and three RBI. 29 July 2299 - Silver Shroud Win, 4-2, at Sunshine Tidings The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud topped the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 4-2, in North Charles Association action at ArcJet Systems Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Fort Hagen pitcher and Boston, Massachusetts, native Mike Cartrette. Curtis Thriceshot converted his 25th save in 28 tries. With the win, Fort Hagen upped its record to 53-29. Andrew Nuka, the fan-favorite, had a direct impact on the outcome. Nuka contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Fort Hagen up, 1-0. "I made some pitches when I had to," said Cartrette. Sunshine Tidings lost to the Shroud today, but Frank Corsica kept his consecutive-game hitting streak alive with 1 hit. The Chemists center fielder has now delivered hits in 35 straight games. "Frank has a nice streak going, but the scoreboard tells the important story today," Sunshine Tidings manager Cozy Burmaster told reporters after the game. "We lost, no matter how many hits anyone had." Frank Corsica grounded out in the 2nd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 7th and grounded out in the 9th. Corsica is currently hitting at a .375 pace with 5 home runs, 39 RBIs and has scored 49 times. 29 July 2299 - Bloodbugs Deal Party Boys 7-3 Loss A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the County Crossing Bloodbugs and Nordhagen Beach Party Boys. The County Crossing Bloodbugs topped the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 7-3, in North Charles Association action at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of County Crossing pitcher Gavin Eviritts. Eviritts, now 7-12, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. With the game tied, 3-3, in the top of the sixth, Eviritts had a key at-bat for County Crossing. With a runner on 2nd, Eviritts hit a run-scoring single off Julian Shed, making the score 4-3, Bloodbugs. "I liked his command," said County Crossing manager Biff Future. "Gavin was throwing strikes." The Bloodbugs raised their record to 31-51, a mere 26 back of the Boys. 29 July 2299 - Swatters Need Extra Frames to Get Past T-51s Diamond City shortstop Wally Warwick contributed to his team's 9-8 win over the Oberland T-51s in 10 innings. Warwick, who is tied for 9th in the SCA with a .402 on-base percentage, went 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Swatters. The current losing streak for Oberland has reached 4 games, pushing them into 3rd in the Railroad League. Diamond City used the clutch hitting of Jason Watts to capture the win. The catcher drilled a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Swatters ahead, 9-8. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one. "Winning never gets dull," said Watts. The game featured two of the premier pitchers of the CBO, but neither came ready to pitch. Diamond City's Tim Fusion saw the worst of it, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits with a walk and a strikeout in 2.2 innings. Sheng kawolski also struggled, allowing six runs, four earned, on seven hits with eight strikeouts in 5.0 innings. Neither pitcher factored in the offensive explosion game's decision. 29 July 2299 - Quincy Gunners Ship Caravan to Atom for Fischler The Gunners and Cats confirmed following the Cat's 6-3 win that a trade had been agreed upon. In the deal, Quincy will get 21-year-old RF Baywatch Fischler and 21-year-old minor league RHP Ross Flamenco, while Atom will receive 20-year-old minor league RHP Taco LaVergne, 21-year-old minor league 2B Jason Ringer, 27-year-old RF Kareem Caravan and 19-year-old minor league RHP Mat Nielsen. This year Caravan is batting .192 with 7 home runs. So far this season Fischler has put up a .273 batting average with 84 hits, 5 home runs and 30 RBIs.

2299 - NWL - Nuka Series
Nuka News Update All the news you need about Bradberton and Nuka World by Evan Guy 29 July 2299 - Crash Handcuffs Ghoulrillas, Star Force Seize 1-0 Advantage in NS When the games really matter, the Quartz Star Force put on their best show, beating the Cherry Ghoulrillas by a final score of 1-0 today. Laurence Crash threw 9 innings of shutout ball. Quartz now leads Cherry 1-0 in the best-of-7 affair. The clutch hit was provided by Jake Rolle. He delivered a walk-off run-scoring single off Matt Mercadante in the bottom of the tenth. "It'd be nice to win by four or five runs," Rolle said, "instead of holding our breath the whole game." Game 2 is scheduled for tomorrow at Star Core Stadium at the Galactic Zone. Slated to start are Chris Shields for the Cherry Ghoulrillas and Kyle Hodges for the the Quartz Star Force.

First of all, the three straight initials of the responders are O-P-A, which reminds me of my Korean roots: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bZk...el=officialpsy ![]() Second, I have no idea what happened to the NWL, but the lack of hits and runs has been driving me batty. I will try to improve those numbers in Season 2, but that is why Evan Guy predicted all scores to be low affairs. 1-0 would have been a better Game 1, 4, 7 guess. Maybe Games 2, 3, 5, and 6 can show some numbers above 5 in the runs category. Third, you three posters are represented (in a way) by future stars of the league, granted that the high Talent Change Randomness does not wreck that.
