I broke the game!!!

So I started up a universe set up thusly:

Major League Baseball (16 teams, NL and American Association)
Player's League (8 teams)
The NCAA (something like 120 teams, every I-AA school save 2)

...and it crashed to the desktop when I tried to move to January 2. Twice. No error message, nothing... just a crash.

Sorry about the wrong forum. The NCAA, which has to be what broke the game, is 12 divisions ranging from 8-12 teams in size. Well, 1 division has 4 teams, but other than that... it completed the setup out to January 1st, but like I said when I tried to move to the 2nd it died. I'm guessing it's probably something to do with the draft and the 11,000 players necessary for it.

Just wondering out loud, how much memory you have in that PC you are using? Maybe someone with a large amt of RAM could test it for you as well... see if RAM was the issue on this!

1 gig. I did have a pretty good number of programs open, what with Firefox fooling you into thinking you have one window open when you have a jillion tabs inside that window.

Just closed out a bunch of things and am trying again.

Edit: Nope! Crashed again! It goes to "playing out day" and doesn't even show any percentage in the progress bar when it blows up.

Editedit: Tried it in full-screen mode and it still crashed. It also set my monitor's refresh rate to 65Hz.

Good stuff.

That's what I call opening day testing.

Syd, zip up the folder for that save game and send it to me.. I want to take a look at it... I can't promise anything, but maybe we can narrow down the issue... just zip it up and send it to me at tc@ootpdevelopments.com

I will be glad to take a look. I am not saying we will get a answer tonight, but I have some ideas about the size of the league...

Thanks. I will PM you when I get it. I get a lot of mail so it might take me a few to get it.

Just made it crash with a 2-league set-up, 10 teams total. Thinking it may have something to do with not assigning teams to cities.

Nope. All teams were assigned cities and it still crashed immediately. Now I'm going to set all abbreviations to 4 or fewer digits in length.

Probably totally unrelated, but the first league crashed in the default skin and this one crashed in the green and brown one.

Edit: Also not the issue. Well, at least we know definitively that it's not a memory-related bug.

Still crashing after I set all teams to 3-letter abbreviations. I did notice that the game is generating some weird ages for the one GM/commish in the league (one Sydney Thrift).

Hmm. Just went into the schedule editor and found that the game can't create interleague skeds. Maybe that's what's causing the problem... I'm sure I had interleague scheduling turned on in the college game. I'm going to turn that off and generate schedules and see what happens...

Nope. Still crashed.

Crashing at the same spot, right at the beginning with both the NCAA universe and a very simple 10-team universe sounds VERY strange. Perhaps the NCAA uni corrupted a file? Have you tried uninstalling (especially any preference or settings files) and reinstalling the game?

Next, I saw that several teams didn't have GMs assigned. I made up human ones... and the game crashed again. I'm just going to re-create the league and see if it's just a random error...

Nope, this one crashed from the get-go as well. This is really starting to get frustrating.

All my other leagues work except these two. I've got a much larger league started in 1890 (with goofy stats, but that appears to be something you'll need to live with for the first year), and a quickstart league... I certainly can uninstall and reinstall (though I REALLY don't want to) but I don't think this is the problem. Also, I did send that file to the powers that be. Maybe their OOTPs are crashing too.

By the by, in the second sim I didn't set up an inaugural draft (actually the 2-team beer league might have had one by accident). I don't even know if I can blame it on that...

Ah, I see. Yeah, you're right. If you have other leagues working that's probably not it... although... have you successfully created a new working league since this started happening?

The NCAA league was the very first one I created. So, yes.

At this point, the only thing I can think of that the games have in common is that both the NCAA league and the 1876 league have similarly sized schedules. 80 (I think) for the NCAA, 70 for this one. At the same time, though, I've got a "university" league in another universe that plays an 8 game season IIRC.

Hmm. Actually, the Japanese Happy Series was in the Colleges league that blew up. Maybe the issue is with drafting 2-team leagues.

BINGO! I just created a 2-team league and it crashed the game. That's got to be the issue!

(does happy nerd dance)
