Any way to customize the # of rounds in initial draft?
Can I customize the length of the initial draft?
The universe I am going to recreate (AGAIN) has 7 affiliated leagues all with 25 man rosters. That leaves a max of 175 total players within an organization (ignoring the expanded roster limit for a moment) It seems to me when I run my initial draft it is longer than 175 rounds (250 comes to mind). Why? I don't have roster spots for all those kids so why draft so many extra? Wouldn't I have to cut them all before opening day anyway?

Initial draft options?
Started a league with 16-teams, two 8-team AAA leagues, and full AA and A affiliates.
It would stand to reason that, in my initial draft, each team would pick 100 players (25 per level). However, the draft consists of 125 rounds, which would place more than 25 players on at least one of my rosters. Is there a way to edit this before the draft takes place? |

dola,
Let's make this one a full-fledged bug. After auto-drafting the complete inaugural draft, only the team I was controlling selected beyond round 100. The "human" team is the only on carrying 25 extra players. |

OK, at this point, Markus won't be making any changes to this algorithm, but I understand it better now, and can explain it to you.
When determining the number of rounds in the inaugural draft, the game first looks at the number of affiliations within the league. For example, if you have a standard 5 levels of minors, then each major league team has 5 affiliated teams. The game takes the # of affiliations, plus one for the major league team, and multiplies this by the active roster limit. So, for the example above, you would get: (5+1) * 25 = 6 * 25 = 150 rounds However, when determining the # of rounds, it actually takes the MAXIMUM # of affiliations in the league. So, let's say your setup has one team, like the Yankees, who have 6 minor league teams, instead of the normal 5. In that case, the equation would be this: (6+1) * 25 = 7 * 25 = 175 rounds In this case, only the Yankees would select during those last 25 rounds. I think this is likely to explain the "extra rounds" you are seeing. Let me know what you think. I'm happy to keep discussing this, but for now I'm moving this to the Closed forum, because Markus doesn't intend on making any changes at this time. Thanks! Steve |

Incidentally, if you want to "customize" the size of the Inaugural draft, you can set a bogus roster limit according to how many rounds you want to have, and then change the roster size to what you really want to use once the player pool has been created. You might have to generate some additional free agents though if your real roster size is significantly above the one you used for the inaugural draft, because the total number of generated players at game start is obviously also dependent on the initial roster limit.
