Game Crashes When You Go To History Tab

It looks as though if you add or remove teams to or from your league and then try to view the history, the game crashes. Oddly enough, you can still pull up the database via the news, but you can't access Hall of Famers or retired players if you've made changes. This appears to be the case even if you advance a season. Major bummer for those of us who like to simulate the franchise shifts and changes of early baseball!

Nope, scratch that. The game dies when you try to access the history as well.

And yes, I have patched. Running 2 associations, one with 16 teams, the other with 8. No minors.

Actually, you can get to current teams' batting registers and stuff by clicking around in the reports. However, if you go into any place that, apparently, mentions a team that no longer exists, the game crashes. Argh. Major, planet-sized bummer.

bumping to the top because this is something of a game-killer for me and I'd like to at least see it acknowledged. Granted, this is Saturday and everybody's probably at home with their families and stuff.

I will fork a current test sim, nuke New York, delete the Giants and Dodgers, and see what happens.

OK. I had just a little fun with this one. I have not been playing to have fun lately, so forgive me.

I did an import in 1954 from Arod/Garlon. I named my universe "Failsafe" and my GM was named Henry Fonda.

I started the sim, then went to do some chores. I came back and then I dropped an H-Bomb on New York City. I deleted the NY Giants and the Brooklyn Dodgers. I did not touch the Yankees, as I figured an atomic attack on New York City would scarcely impact the quality of life in the Bronx.

I made two expansion teams, the Buffalo Wild Wings and Seattle Pilots. For the heck of it, I renamed the Redlegs to the Reds, moved the Philadelphia Athletics to Oakland and renamed them the A's.

I can view history fine, in the bottom part of the page it shows two inactive teams, the Giants and Dodgers. I can click on the Dodgers and see that they are a consistantly bad team after winning the Series in 1954

I can see my HoF. Enos Slaughter, Jackie Robinson, and Johnny Peskey are in,as are Bob Feller, Hal Newhouser, and Bob Feller. After a quick eval of the HoF member stats, there are 4 no doubters, one maybe ( Warren Spahn ) and one member of the Frankie Frisch club ( Johnny Pesky ).

Short version:

I can't duplicate the error.

I just tried to recreate it as well and I couldn't do it either although I used the Lahman database.

Really? Hmm. That's actually good news in my book. I was about to shelve the game until the next update came out. I'll gie herr another trrry and hopefully this time it'll work. Maybe I'm inadvertently naming teams after squads that were already in the league or giving them the same abbreviation or something.

Again, thank you for demonstrating that I'm in the wrong about this. I feel much, much better about the game now.

Edit: I am using fictional players. I can't imagine why that would affect anything, but it is a *little* different than what you guys are doing.

I had fun with this sim. Can you hear the scream of the melting plastic? As it is a quicksim, I can do it again.

Oh! I'm sorry... I was also changing the number of teams in each league as well, and at one point I moved the Pittsburgh Alleghenys into the NL (where they, of course, became the Pirates). Actually, I take that back... one of the times the game crashed in history I had 2 8-team subleagues every year and one separate unafilliated 8-team AA league.

Edit: I also have All-Star Games turned off. Can't imagine that could be it... could it?

All right, I think I figured it out. The game does fine with adding and removing teams, so long as the overall number of teams in the league doesn't get smaller (actually, I haven't tried expanding but I assume that's working okay because if it wasn't somebody would have reported that by now). Raidergoo or other beta testers, could you please try contracting a league by, for example, two teams and then seeing what happens? Again, the game only crashes when you view history. It seems to play just fine other than that, which is probably why this particular bug was never discovered.

I will contract two teams and report back. This will take some time. Feel free to bump if no response in a day.

Just to be clear on how to create this crash:

1. Create a league.
2. Sim at least one season in it.
3. Remove a couple teams. Don't replace them with other clubs. IOW, if you have a 16-team league, contract it to 14 teams. Rebuild the schedule and all (because the game says you need to do this and anyway I did so and the game itself doesn't crash when it's playing games)
4. Sim a little, or don't. It doesn't matter because once you have removed the teams...
5. Click on History.
6. Say hello to the desktop.

If you contract and then play several seasons, you can actually get into the league summary screens (and everything else, for that matter) through the news reports. So long as you don't try to access the pre-contracted season(s), the game will be fine.

I started with a 1946 Arod DB import, set fot 5 years, and the test is underway.

EDIT

I am watching Ted Williams try to win the 1947 Triple Crown. Oops, 2 RBI short. V. Stephans of the ST Browns knocked in 119.

Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot. I swear this is happening to me whenever I try this. If you'd like, I could send you a league file.
