Post-patch: Stealing Code is TERRIBLE!!!!
Are ratings even considered in the stolen base equation?
In the last game I played, I had not one, but TWO players (actually, it was the same guy) thrown out stealing second. Normally, no big deal, right? The baserunner (on a scale of 1-20) had a speed of 20, STEALING ABILITY of 20, and baserunning of 19. The whiz kids that combined to throw him out? A pitcher with a hold runners rating of 4, and a catcher with a 1 rated cannon! One?!?!?!?!?!?! And he was able to do this twice?!?!?! Meanwhile, my relief pitcher (hold runners of 6) and catcher (arm: 15) allowed three consecutive baserunners to steal (two of second, one of third). In fact, you would have thought I was giving away free coffee on third base, judging by the ease with which baserunners were able to get there. Bottom line, the way stealing is handled in this game is RIDICULOUS and seriously needs to be looked at and worked over for patch 2. |

Two attempts is a very small sample size.

This was just in one game, but I have played many. This is just the straw that broke my back with this issue. And, this cost me the game. The computer AI takes liberties with stealing third base. Add in the wild pitches, and it makes playing out a game tough on your blood pressure.
Besides, I have been on this and many of these boards preaching patience since the game has been released. Sure, I have reported many potential bugs and errors since the release (and especially post-patch) but I have still remained calm and cool. Until now. Anything that pushes the numbers far from the reality of professional ball to make major league level games look like high school scrimmages drives me up a wall. |

dola,
Add this to the number of times I've seen shoestring catches made on the warning track, and guys "charging back to the wall" and even (in this very same game) two infield pop-ups dropping in for hits - one pxp line even read: "Popped up in the infield, Rawlings (my 2B) will give chase... he can't catch up to it...it'll fall for a hit." |

Rickey Henderson only stole safely 80% of the time during his entire career. In 82, when he stole 130, his steal percentage was 75.6%. It's not entirely out of the realm of possibility that a guy has a bad game and gets caught twice.
Slim, sure...but what's your speedster's overall stats in basestealing? |

Markus has taken a look at the code for this, and I'm afraid there just isn't enough evidence at this point to make case for changing the code. He's not going to tweak it at this point. Feel free to bring this issue up again if we can come with some long-term results that show that stealing results are off.
Thanks! Steve |
