Cubby/Rolen Rosters will not re-import....Any ideas?
I exported the the newest Cubby/Rolen MLB roster do some editing in Excel- and the roster will not re-import. I thought maybe I screwed something up during the editing, but I tried a straight export- then re-import with NO changes- and it ALWAYS fails at 43% into the import. My other roster files import/export fine...Can someone else try this and verify if this is just on my end somehow....This will be a huge blow if I cannot globally edit the rosters. Anyone with technical expertise know what could be causing this?...Thanks!

Can you post a copy of the roster file that you have edited and are ready to re-import?
My first guess is the fact that you are editing it in Excel is causing problems. But, you're saying that you can't export, and then immediately import again?? |

That is correct Steve. I cannot export- and then immediately re-import the same file...wierd. As I said, it works for other roster files- so I don't neccesarily suspect it is the game that's causing problems- just curious as to why it isn't working. I have globally edited rosters in excel and then re-imported with this version- though not neccesarily this patch- before with success. |

Nomah, any chance you could take a peek at the thread Aewin linked and see if that helps out?

Perhaps I am missing something- and if so- please forgive my incompetence. I appreciate the advice aewin- but I am failing to see how it applies to this particular issue. Last edited by NomarHits400; 07-13-2006 at 10:44 AM. |

Ah, it was just wishful thinking on my part, really.
I'll try to see what I can figure out about this... ![]() |

Thanks Steve- I think the roster is to blame- but I think it's interesting that the roster can't export/import correctly (without changes) all the same. |

Well, I haven't been able to make any more progress on this. Does anyone else have any updates?

i think it may be a file extension problem only. try changing the file extension from .csv to .txt

in that case its the roster files themselves. ootp2006 has difficulties exporting the roster files when it has characters other than the 26 letters in the english alphabet. you throw in an "ñ" or a "é" and ootp2006 will eat up a comma here and there. the only way to fix it is to meticulously look at every roster file in excel. with all its columns lined up, find out which data cell is missing and add an empty one or correct it so the information is correct. we encountered this problem alot when importing the roster set from avsfan's universe, because all the jose names were spelled josé

Did you have to remove the special characters to get it to import correctly?

I figured it out guys- Demo was correct- two player have a " in their name- and it screws up the import process. The cool thing is after I manually deleted thm in Excel- I found out later that if I put a quote in the search field in the game itself- it pulled the culprits right up.
So- if you are having a problem reimporting a roster- do a search for the usual suspects in the game player search function- ;, :, " - and it will find them for you...Everything works great now- Thanks for the help fellas! Dave |

1. What were the specific player names that caused the problem? 2. Were there players in your file with accents in them, like the "Joses" demo mentioned above? 3. Where did you get the newest Cubby/Rolen rosters? Thanks, and glad this got resolved! Steve |

1. The players names were Tim Gormley and Lewis Mcquistan- both had "" entered as their nicknames. 2. I didn't notice any players with accents- and after I deleted the two fellows above- in the game itself- I no longer had any import issues. If I deleted them in Excel ONLY- the file would re-import- but since there was no data for the two names that were causing issues- and since I was importing back into the same roster set, the two guys above would always be present when I would export again- and the problem would remain. Deleting the names in game fixed that...Hope all that is clear. 3. The Roster set was Cubby/Rolens from this year- Beta version 2 I believe. Downloaded from Filefront I think. |

Bingo.
It's the " character. The Big Demo, accented characters can be imported/exported with no problem, at least in my testing. But if you stick a " in there somewhere, it crashes. I logged this as TT # 2341. Thanks, Steve |

As a "first aid" the game will now replace each " with an ' when you export a roster.
