Importing Full History

I have tried to use one of my favorite features in the new version, but sadly it appears to be worthless to me (though I really enjoy the game on the whole). Now I don't have a dinosaur, though it's not terribly new. My computer is a couple of years old, though I upgrade things now and then. I have a Celeron processor at 2.4GHz, 512 MB of ram, yet I have yet to successfully load a past season with all the history. The first tries were for the 1995 season and I waited for it to load the players for 30 minutes. Then 45 in another attempt. Last night I started to load it and then went to bed. I got up 8 hours later and it was only 2% done with loading players. So you're telling me that I have to have a top of the line machine just to load the league history (the late league history, I haven't tried loading a league in it's earlier stages with the history) just to get it to import this stuff within a week? Is anybody else having this problem?

Obviously, this isn't the expected time to process this.

Bob, which specific historical database and version are you using?

Bob, could you start the game and with nothing else running, hit CTRL + ALT + DEL to start the Task Manager? Post here what the "commit charge" says. This is how much RAM is being used out of the available RAM. Let's start there. There are a lot of tweaks I can help you do so, if you're patient, we can get you through this issue.

I'm interested too. I seem to have a similar set-up as Bob and could not get the historical league created loading history up to 1962. I'd eventually get notice that OOTP was Not Responding and it would hang there. I tried a couple times and didn't get past 75%.

The 'load complete history' feature is probably the most ram-instensive feature of the new game. I have a pretty decent machine (dual core processor, 1.5gigs of ram), and selecting 1995 would take at least 30 minutes and possibly longer any time that I tried it during the beta.

I just tried to load 1927 with the complete history and it loaded in about 5 minutes. I had been using Gambo's database with my attempts, this time though I used the latest Lahman database. I am going to try to load the 95 season with the original Lahman database and get back to you guys.

Thanks very much. 5 minutes sounds more like it, even if it's only 26 years of history.

FWIW - I loaded complete history with the league starting at 2006 and saw the memory usage go up to over 600Mb. Luckily I have 2GB on my machine.

Yeah, I'm having the EXACT same problem.. I want to do the 1987 season with complete history, and I let my machine sit for over an hour.. granted its a 2 year old laptop, but still.. After an hour, I was still on 0%, and at one point I got a virtual memory error message.

By the way, I'm using the Lahman database..

FWIW, one of the MBBA league members imported the MBBA and it's 25 years of history and it took about 90 minutes.

Same problem here. Took 1 hour and 5 minutes to load the 1960 season from Lahman 5.4 with previous history.

Windows XP Professional SP2
Pentium 4 - 2.8GHz - 512MB RAM
Hard Drive 85% unused

Same problem here. My machine is running 1.25GB of memory and whenever I try to import history, my machine completely crashes to the infamous Blue Screen of Death.

I'm able to import just fine without full history.

If you're having this problem, please tell us which specific historical database you are using. Seems like Bobbuttons' problem was limited to Gambo's DB.

I'd like to restate my question to all of you having this problem, Can you check how much "available" RAM you have and post here? Just because a machine has 1GB or more installed doesn't mean much if there's not enough "available".

FWIW I have two machines that I run OOTP on. I can import 1987 with full history on my 512MB machine in a very reaonable amount of time. I believe it was in the range of 20 or so minutes. My dual core 1GB machine is slightly faster. But my systems are extremely clean with tweaks done to free up RAM to the limits.

Lahman 54. I moved my year back from 87 to 56 and i got much further. However, the inevitable happened. The memory usage slowly creeps up nearing my maximum amount and then BSoD happens.

Here's what my one of my machines says: 168MB/2018MB.

Chances are you have to clean up some things. Start with this: http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/boar...t=perfect+disk

853MB is way too much RAM usage if you have nothing else running

Thumbs up

Fidel,

Thanks for the reply. I should have made myself clearer. When I am not running OOTP 2007 with the full history box checked, my Commit Charge is typically 190M.

My machine is reasonably clean. I use Spybot, Ad-aware, and Mcafee virus scan and I keep an eye on startup programs. Zone Alarm and WindowBlinds are constantly running but nothing else except normal Windows XP processes.

I think the high memory usage has something to do with OOTP. But, others are not experiencing it, so there may be something I can do on my machine. But, I don't know what.

BTW. I've tried this with both Lahman 5.4 and Gambo's DB. Same result - high memory use when I try to load previous league history.

I had problems importing seasons with full history when the season I was choosing was in the 1990s or later. This was early in beta. It took a LONG time, it acted like it was not responding, but, given time, it would finally finish.

When I upgraded my memory to a GIG, the problem went completely away.

It is loading quite a bit of data when you are doing this, and 512meg is really not quite enough to do it. Like I said, it will do it, but it will run out of memory and then have to start swapping memory and that is what causes the virtual memory message and the slow down. It has to swap memory to the hard drive.

What I did, was set up to this option at a time when you are not going to be around, like before you go to sleep. When you wake up, it is done.

I also STRONGLY suggest that after the league is loaded, you exit, saving the game and then reboot the computer. Windows seems to be slower once you reach the VM level, but a reboot always gets things normal again.

While the game is still VERY enjoyable with 512meg of RAM, I recommend that you double that, as it is worth the investment.

After a week of no replies from the original poster, we generally assume that the problem is no longer present and close the threads. If this isn't the case and you'd like me to re-open the thread, feel free to PM me with a link to the thread.

Thanks!
