Historic League load problems

I really just wanted to get verification on what I believe is the problem:

I downloaded the trial game and I was creating a new Historical league starting in 1978 and importing all prior Historical data. My computer sat on 0% during the load process for roughly 30 minutes before I just control/alt/deleted out of the application (it said 'not responding'). During the loading process my computer said I was low on "Virtual Memory". I have 256MB RAM, which I believe I read was the requirement for this game. I don't know much about computers, what is Virtual Memory?

Is my computer too old/out of date to run a Historical League with all past History stats loaded?

Also I tried loading a Historical League without prior stats and it was loading but VERY slowly. It was at 91% after about 30-45 minutes before I had to turn it off because I had to leave my place.

So is this my computer or does it typically take that long to load the league?

It is my understanding that this is a memory intensive process (as far as OOTP is concerned). It would be worth shutting down other programs (virus checker, messanger, etc) that are running to free up some system resources when you do this. Don't forget to turn anti-virus back on afterward. Even doing this you might still run into problems.

Buy some more memory if you have the budget to do so. 256 is very little memory in this day and age. I am sure you can find a good price if your PC is older and you will notice an improvement in your response time with all programs if you add memory.

Erik, a couple of posters have claimed the same problem with 384 and 512 megs of RAM, but no one with 1 gig has claimed to've seen it. Just something to keep in mind if you're looking to upgrade.

Don't take this the wrong way, but he shouldn't have to upgrade just to play this game. He already has the minimum requirements that have been set, yet he can't get a historical league from the late 20th century to load... I have twice the RAM he does and I can't even get it to import. My point is that we were given a minimum to play the game, and the minimum it seems can't get you all the features.

Gibson swings, and a fly ball to deep right field! This is gonna be a home run! Unbelievable! A home run for Gibson! And the Dodgers have won the game, 5 to 4; I don't believe what I just saw! I don't believe what I just saw!

I won't take it the wrong way. I wasn't suggesting that he should upgrade, merely that if he was going to, he should go big instead of for a minimal (less expensive) bump.

I have 512 and I can't get it either.

What I did was start in 1901 and simmed to 1984. The stats are not the same a real life but they a pretty close.

Hey,

Thanks all. Curtis, thanks for letting me know there are other's with this same problem, even with a little more memory. I would have gone crazy if I'd purchased another 256MB and it still didn't work.

Also Bobbuttons, I agree with you. I think if you can't play all the features correctly using the "minimum" as stated, then they should raise the "minimum" requirements...unless you want "minimum" access to the features.

But it doesn't seem like with my computer I will be able to benefit from purchasing this game. And unless I get a brand spanking new computer (which I was seriously considering), I guess I'm stuck playing OOTP 6.5 (which I don't mind actually). It almost sounds like you need a real awesome high powered computer to play this game with all it's features. I guess that's technology though.

Not too awesome. I'm playing on a 4 1/2 year old eMac, and my graphics card is equally ancient. I did buy the thing with 1 GB of RAM, for which I've always been glad, but my CPU speed is only 700 Mhz, which is far below the recommended minimum… and is likely the reason why I can't sim. Hey, you can't win 'em all.
