Mac black screen after patch

We've had a few reports of people getting a black screen after patching on a Mac.

One workaround for this is to completely uninstall the game, download the full version again, and reinstall.

However, this thread is to troubleshoot this issue, so that we can figure out why it is happening.

If you're having this problem, could you please tell me:

1. Which download site did you use to get the file (if you recall)

2. Did you open the file directly from the download, or did you first save it to your machine? (I'm not even sure how this works on Macs, someone enlighten me. On PCs, you can choose to Open directly from the web site, or Save to disk.)

3. In which folder was the .dmg file when you ran it?

Thanks!

Steve

Looks like the Mac patch deletes certain files from the computer
Don't worry, it doesn't delete saved games, but it deletes the skin.
I suggest to install the full version instead of the patch. We'll fix this ASAP.

OK...so here is the info:

1. Download from the link in the e-mail that I got. I used the first one in the e-mail.

2. I downloaded to the desk top and ran it from there.

3. I opened the .dmg file on the desktop and ran the patch. It asked me which volume the game was on and I pointed to the correct spot.

It ran, said it was done. Went to open the program.....black screen.

I have downloaded the full version but have not tried to reinstall.

SPECS:
MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo; 2 GB of SDRAM OSX 10.4.9

Hope this helps.

We've found the problem. You can go ahead and reinstall the full version...or wait until next week for a fixed patcher.

Thanks!

Got the black screen . . . now I have to download the complete version. NOT happy. But, I also don't see a download site for the Mac, except for "try and buy." Is that what we use? Any problems with the license workaround?

To install the patch correctly, search the Mac for ootp2007.app
That's the folder where you have to install the patch.

Use this link to download the full version: http://ootp2007.ootpdevfiles.com/ootp2007setup.dmg

It works, AND you made it easy. I really appreciate that. Thank you . . . now, can I humbly ask that the next patch not be "rushed"? It's clear you all want to keep everyone as happy as you can: seems to me the game is very good as it is, and that the improvements people think it needs don't have to happen overnight.

I don't think it was "rushed" as much as there just seem to be Mac issues. This same problem happened with OOTP2006 (patch producing a black screeen). There are obviously differences between Mac and PC setups... but if I could be so bold as to suggest that perhaps Mac patches should be tested with a real user or two before being made available. Mac users (of which I am) are notoriously sensitive when Mac products don't work as well as PC, and it would be a shame to have lots of new Mac users access this forum and see posts from confused Mac users.

(Who is VERY grateful that OOTP2007 is available for the Mac!)

I agree!! First of all, I am thrilled that the game is even available for Mac. And secondly, I would be happy to volunteer to be a guinea pig, er, tester, for any Mac related issues. I have a G4 Powerbook, 768MB RAM. Not top of the line anymore, but still a great computer for what I use it for.

I downloaded the patch and then had this black screen problem. Problem is that I don't know how to reinstall the game. Also I don't want to have to pay for it again. Can someone please help me.

You don't need to pay again, never ever do that please.

Now there are several possible solutions for you:

1) Search for the app ootp2007. Probably you'll find several copies of it. Install the patch into the folder where you find the oldest version of that app.

2) If you don't care about downloading 70 MB, just load and install this file: http://ootpdevfiles.com/ootp/ootpb2007setup.dmg That's it.

Have fun!

I just downloaded the patch and installed into the folder where ootp2007.app was located, but I still got the black screen. Is there something I can do before I have to reinstall the entire game?

i searched the computer, found only one folder where the app is located, the folder where I first tried to install the patch.

That wouldn't neccessarily help. I'm a Mac user, and I had no problems with this patch or any of the 2006 patches, so using me as a testbed wouldn't've helped one bit. Apparently different Macs can be as different as Macs and PCs.

So why are you spending nearly 8 minutes rebuilding the skin file?

Actually it seems that this problem was also with some PCs so testing it with Mac users wouldn't have helped them.

That's a fair question; I probably misspoke. What I should've said was that when I changed from one skin to the other it took eight minutes (followed by a restart), so I would assume that rebuilding the skin file would take at least that long.

Thank you for catching that.

Curtis -
I actually had another question for you.

Did you install the Mac patch or did you reinstall the whole program? If you reinstalled the whole program did you install it into the folder that had the older version or did you pick another folder and then move your data folder?

Does that make any sense? The reason I ask is that I've been installing the new (full) program into the same folder, which overwites it. It seems to work fine this way (well except for the scoreboard thing) but I was wondering if there was a better way.

Thanks.

For some reason, my eMac (which runs Panther) seems to be optimized for OotPB. Except for one never repeated CTD during an inaugural draft under the last build of 2006, this game has never given me problems.

I downloaded the patch (not a full game) through this site (not through the mirror, which I'd had problems using to download the revised manual). The installer ran automatically up to the point where I had to point it at a folder. I wasn't given the option of installing into the folder where I keep 2007, so I aimed it at the choice that was closest to it (two heirarchies farther up the tree), and it created a new game there. I tossed the old game into the trash, moved the new game to the old game's folder, opened it up, and it worked beautifully, complete with my test league.

Now, mind you, I'm spending so much time on these boards and travelling that I've played very little. I'm not even up to Spring Training yet, and likely won't be for awhile, so I don't know whether I have the blank scoreboard problem or not. That's why I asked in a different thread about whether I should go through the 'delete skin.bin' procedure without knowing whether or not I actually need to. (I haven't gotten an answer to that question, by the way.)

Is any of this still current? Do we need this information actively displayed anywhere?
