Repeated Crashes, Error Message from Microsoft

Hi, i'm new to OOTP and have enjoyed what i've played so far alot. I decided, though, i was gonna do a 2006 league because it turns out having real players populate the league does more for my enjoyment of the game than i would've thought.

The first time i did this i made a a game with the MLB, 1 AAA league, 2 AA leagues, and 3 A leagues. Everything went fine for the first like week of gameplay, but now every time i sim up to saturday the 8th, i think it is ( i know its been crashing the same day every time), i get one of those error messages from microsoft (the ones where they ask you to please report your error to microsoft, with the "send error report" and "don't send error report" near the bottom)

I don't know if this is helpful at all, but this was at the head of the 'error details' page or w/e its called (i'm not saavy with technical aspect of computers at all lol, so i don't know what any of this means, its just the closest thing i could get to documentation of what exactly went wrong).

AppName: ootp2007.exe AppVer: 2.0.0.0 ModName: ootp2007.exe
ModVer: 2.0.0.0 Offset: 0036bc0b

Its very tough for me to guess what exactly went wrong, because in both games (i created a copy of that first game, thinking it was just a bug with that particular game. i'm having the same problem except i don't believe its friday the 8th that's tripping me up, although it actually might be). As in, i was in commissioner mode and changed the photos, stats, birthdays, names, and leagues of a good 8 or 9 players.

The first time it started crashing, too, i noticed something very weird. I had basically created a few players (just took fictional players and changed their names, birthdays, ratings, everything). I signed one of them to Philadelphia's double-A team, but it had his team listed as the Boston Americans when i searched for him. Also the game would typically crash when i was on that page.

I feel like my ADD is acting up and that this was a terribly written post lol, so i'll just try and reiterate it succinctly: In 2 separate games now, the game has frozen up every time i reach a certain point in simming. And it isn't just locking up, i'm getting an error message from microsoft saying it needs to close, and asking me whether i'd like to report the error or not.

Also it might be worth pointing out that in both games, it started crashing fiarly recently after i used the "Fill Teams with Fictional Players" function, and in both instances nothing happened to any team after using that (as far as i could tell).

Thank you very much for your time, any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm heading into finals week of my junior year in high school, and this game is pretty much the only means of recreation i have til i get through that haha.

That's all

I am getting the same error from Microsoft saying asking if I want to report the cause. I don't know if this is the same problem, or different from the one you are having. Hopefully someone will be able to help us!

i at least made it alot better...i deleted all the games i wasn't playing, but didn't re-install it.

also i realized that on the listing of leagues, where it is typically listed in descending order of league quality, i had a single a league between my major league and aaa league.

so i deleted that league and then just re-made it, and it went where it should go. i've now simmed about 2 weeks further than i could before without any trouble....hope i'm not jinxing anything though...

did you 2 buy the game recently? cus i did, and i noticed in the error report it said something about the license not matching the IP adress (i would've copied and pasted it but it wouldn't let me. i might take a screenshot of it once i get home, i'm at school right now though so that'll be a while.

also, if i remember right, my computer has 12.4 gig free. anyone that's computer literate tell me if there's any chance that's causing a problem?

any ideas, anyone? again, i'm sorry to be posting up a storm here, i'm typically a machine at message board ettiquette haha...its just i'm really eanxious to play the game, and its thoroughly unplayable right now.

even a post saying that you don't have any ideas as to how to fix it would be useful, just so my paranoia about no one seeing this gets alleviated haha.

thanks for your time again

Are you getting the crash during the save when you are quitting the program? That's what happens to me as well ... It gets to Closing Database 94% then crashes with the Microsoft error ...

I've gotten to where I have the habit of saving the game before I quit the game ... enables me to play the game while I wait (and hope) this issue can get resolved in the near future...

I have also had numerous crashes, usually when saving. Hopefully someone has given it a TT #. I had no crashes prior to the patch.

also, this seems very strange: i realized that in the "game preference" section, there was nothing in the section calle "Data File Directory" or something like that. so being the newbie i am, i just decided to change that to the file called "/data" inside the OOTP folder. now i open it up and it says it can't be found, and i need to reinstall it.

the strange part is, though, i did re-install it, and i get the exact same message upon starting it now.

so no one out there has any idea how to fix this or what steps should be taken in the meantime? like i said, even a post from someone saying they have no clue what the problem is would be appreciated, so that we could be assured someone is at least noticing.

like i mentioned before, the game is thoroughly unplayable right now for me, it can't sim more than 2-3 days without crashing.

any help at all would be greatly appreciated

If you're changing the data folder path, make sure to read this thread from the FAQ section for how to go about it.

i unwittingly did everything that said to, actually haha. but its still said that it couldn't find it and needed to be reinstalled. so i did reinstall it, and it is still giving me the same problems.

so now i've got to find a way to fix a presumably fixable problem, and then find a way to fix a problem that to it seems is brand new and therefore not fixed yet haha...

When you uninstall also go to my docs and delete the SI folder. Then go to program files/SI and delete the OOTP2007 folder. That will remove all traces of OOTP 07 from your machine. Then reinstall and see if you still have the problem. Are you installing everything on C:?

Additionally, if you have an older PC it might be worth posting your specs here (processor, memory, hd size) as that can give us a clue. An older machine can have problems with a large league file.

EDIT: do you all have updated video card drivers? Facegen could be causing problems too I suppose.

like i'v mentioned i'm pretty computer illiterate, so there might be some extra info in here, but when i clicked on properties for "my computer" i got this

system:
Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

Computer:
Intel
Pentium 4 CPU 1.80 GHz
1.79 GHz, 768 MB of Ram.

For my C: Drive, it has listed
Capacity of 37.2 GB
Of Which 28.5 is used
And 8.7 is free

once i finish reinstalling, i'll try a small league to see if that helps. disabling facegen would stop any problems it is causing, right? cus although i don't know the specifics, i know my video cards were considered low-powered back in like 2002.

uugghhh my god.... i just reinstalled again and its still telling me it can't find the data path. i deleted everything, although i did move my saved games to a separate folder so that i wouldn't lose them...is that the problem, am i gonna need to get rid of them? also it occured to me that although i did delete everything i don't think i emptied the recycling bin.

i even changed the directory back to what it was manually though, and its still not working. this is getting throughly frustrating, i'm dying to play this game but its looking like i and about 5 other people have indestructable problems lol...

So, you can't even start a new fictional league? You're saved games will be fine. You can move them back into your saved games folder.

Your system specs should be OK for a normal sized league (I wouldn't try any huge lgs). However, you have very little hard drive space. Have you defragged lately? I'd suggest doing that as well just to make sure there are no problems there as well.
