Can't even play the game! Nation_flag error?!

Okay, so i'm braaaaand new to the OOTP universe, and i thought the game sounded awesome, so i ponied up the $35 and bought 2007. I fire it up and click the "new game" button on the main menu, and i get an error that pops up saying "Nation::import_flag_image - unable to move down into nation_flags directory". Even worse, the error doesn't disappear when you click "okay", it stays there on top of everything and you can't even quit the program. I've had to do a manual program shutdown twice now and can't get past the menu. I'll admit, this game sounded like an armchair-baseballer's dream come true, but right now i'm regretting the purchase if this is what I get for my money. I haven't touched any files and haven't modified the game at all. I even downloaded the new patch to 2.0.2 and it still does it. Can anyone help? I'm not an idiot when it comes to computers either, so i know it's nothing i'm doing. It's also difficult when the only way to get tech support around here is to send a post out into the cyber nether regions and hope somebody sees it and responds within a day...

Reply within a day is asking a lot here. These are volunteer gamers covering this forum, not paid employees, so you have to catch as catch can. You CAN get a response in a day, but it could take as long as a week.

This is probably where I should mention that problems officially are looked at from oldest to newest in this section of the forum, so bumping your thread (as I just did to you — sorry) isn't a good idea. Bumping is fine up in General Discussions or New To The Game.

PC or MAC?

Did you change the directory of anything when doing the install?

My best advice to you if you are playing on a PC is to do a full re-install. The best way is to move all your saved games, world templates and quickstarts your destop or whatever then uninstall the game in control panel (if you didn't get to this stuff yet then ignore that), delete the OOTP Baseball 2007 folder in my docs/sports interactive, then go to program files and delete the OOTP Baseball 2007 folder.

That should remove everything OOTP07 from your PC. Then go here and download the game: http://www.ootpbaseball.net/downloads.php (I think you will have to DL 2.1 and then patch to 2.2 as the page seems to indicate the full version is not updated with the patch - not sure if that is really the case).

Thanks for the response. I wasn't asking for a reply within a day, just hoping for one i bought this to have something to keep me occupied during the long Memorial Day weekend, but whenever I can get it to work is fine with me. I should also mention I have no idea what you mean by "bumping my thread"...are you saying I should have done something different? I'm about as new to OOTP as they come, so any suggestions are certainly appreciated.

Sounds like you are new to message boards too. Bumping = the art of replying to ones own post in order to move the initial post back to the top of the message board.

It's a PC, and no, i didn't touch anything during the install. I know this is an extremely complex game, and I can see the list of problems people have had due to manually changing things, so i figured I should modify as little as possible until I find my way around. I'm doing the re-install now, i'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks.

Couldn't be more true Well the re-install worked, as far as I can tell. Thank you for the help! I can already tell this is going to be a game that puts a serious dent in my social free time. Now I just need to find out where to download the real-life players!

Cool, I'll close this then. Check the mods forum for 2007 rosters. Enjoy!
