Mutual Option broken?

I had a player signed to a 4 year contract with the 4th year a mutual option. I was planning on letting him go at the end of the 3rd year, but it never game me the option. All of a sudden, when players filed for free agency, his salary just changed to the option year salary and it lists him as signed for this season. The manual states:

"Mutual Option: Both sides must agree on whether to honor the final year of the contract, or else the player becomes a free agent."

"Mutual options are a combination of the previous two options. If the player refuses the option, you will receive the refusal message. If the player accepts, you will receive a message like the one described above. You will then need to decide how to respond, just as if it were a team option."

I never even got an email asking me! What's up with that?

All options were checked. I even got an email asking if I wanted to pick up the team's option on a player. But nothing about a mutual option.

So you got an email asking if you wanted to pick up the team option on the player, Sounds like the player accepted and you got your email asking if you also accpeted, looks to me like it worked right.

No, I got an email asking about a team option on a different player. Sorry, I wasn't too clear on that.

I got no email at all regarding the player with a mutual option.

I don't use mutual options that often...

If an option is mutual, does it mean that both parties have to agree for the contract to continue, or does it continue of either party wants it to?

If the former, you should have gotten an e-mail; if the latter, the player could have taken the option and that would have been it.

I was under the impression it was the former, so that would make this a problem if it's replicable.

According to the manual, both sides must agree. So regardless of what the player decides on his end, I should have gotten an email asking what I wanted to do.

Yes, you should've. This has been working fine for me. Might want to put it in the tech support forum and try and duplicate the problem.

This has been working for me as well. Is their any chance the player went through arbitration? Is there any chance that you are mistaken and it was a player option or that the game mistaked it as a player only option? Is there any emails at all relating to the player and the contract (I'm guessing now but I thought i'd ask)?

I hadn't thought of how the mutual option and arb would work. Could be the variable right there.

It would be a remarkable coincidence if the player was awarded through arbitration the exact amount of the option salary- Neags mentions in his first post that his salary was equal to the option salary.

If a player were still arbitration eligible (and I imagine this would be quite rare, to have an arb eligible player with an option year during his arb years), and had an option year on his contract, the option should override his arbitration status if the option is accepted; his arbitration status wouldn't matter. If the option is declined, however, the player would then have his salary determined through arbitration; he wouldn't go to free agency.

Nope, nothing to do with arbitration. The player in question is 37... been a major leaguer for quite a few years.

I'm 100% sure it was a mutual option and not a player, because I boosted the salary of the last year by quite a bit when he was a free agent in hopes that he bit on the contract. He did. I never really had any intention of keeping the guy for that last year. But I never had a choice.

dola,
Do you get emails for player options? I didn't get any kind of email at all.

You know... I do have a backup of that league from earlier in the season. I could try to revert back and see if it happens again.

Yes. But I thought from your above post that you had received such an e-mail for a different player as well?

Yeah it'll be an email that has a red dot to flag it. There will be an option towards the bottom right next to the delete email options that will say "respond to message" The options are 'execute option or 'void contract'. I don't recall it never not working me. If it was a player option the game will still tell you via the email system that the player has chosen to execute his option or opt for free agency.

The e-mail for the other player was a team option. I've never used a player option.

Ah. Gotcha. Yeah, you should still be getting one for the latter situation.

The email you should have received would have been nearly identical to the team option one. The only difference is it would say whether or not the player picked up the option.

I don't know if it's been mentioned or not but you could go into commish mode and send the player to the FA pool.

That's probably what I'd do for now.
